I think that our group's cleric got a spell to open (or disarm?) the LDoN chests.

It never worked.

Every time we tried to open the chest, the characters nearby would get poisoned (or whatever). We did a lot of LDoNs, but never got anything from a chest.

The chests are set up to be trapped cursed or locked. A cleric can detect/open a cursed chest with the proper level spell.
Rougues pick and disarm the Locked chests.
Mages/wizards one of them if not both can dectect and disarm trapped chests.
May be off on the exact name of the types of chests.

people open these wrong and set off the trap because they don't use the spells/skills in correct order.

1. inspect
2. disarm (the spell that requires the scyring stone)
3. remove the lock

then you just type /open

if done in the correct order, i have never saw a trap go off.

it is a good idea to get good at doing these as one of the trials in MPG (group trial) requires all of the classes that can open chests, be opening them during the trial. you can get away with only a wisdom and intel opening, or a rogue/bard type with either a wisdom or intel type. but i would say need at least two of the 3 kinds to get it done in time.

you open chests while another class pacifies wanders, collect 300 "coins" from the chests to get the boss to spawn. you have a limited time.

Sometimes stat food is in the chest, I have seen augs, weapons, and trash items as well.
No your rogue cant open all types of chests. See my post above.
Three types of "traps" one way to remove each specific type.
Of course you can keep bashing the chest setting off the trap each time until A) the chest is destroyed with its contents B) you die from the trap, or C) you do open it.
Note C result is very uncommon.

there are 3 kinds of chests, as soon as a class try's there inspect message, they will get a message if it isn't the type they can open. then they need to STOP if they keep trying another spell, it will go off.

mine says "that only works on cursed" when i get that message, it means is another classes type.

chest can also have illusion potions, augs, gems.

they need to re work them ;-)

when LDoN first came out, you would find 1 or two in each instanced, now you can do 10 instanced and not see one. oh, i think if there is an aug in one, it is normaly +1 more than the normal augs for that lvl in the instanced.

yes .. used to be before they added traps to the chests that the tank just waxed em as you went threw the LDoN .. that was too easy and lasted about a month .. then they traped em .. first time I waxed one and the entre group got drunk ,.. or lost there buffs , or everyone became sick (uncurabbly) .. we figured out that they were traped now.
Second .. they added the spells and abilites for certain toons to detct dissarm and open em .. but half the time and becasue the kinks hadnt been worked out .they still went off
Got to the point that they left me solo after the win .. in the dungeon before the timmer ran out to suffer the consequences of waxing the chest to see what was inside..
Lastly .. forget they are there .. there more trubble than they are worth ..

Best way to do the chests, that I found. Esp if you have a cleric in the group. IS to have everyone in the group back up a room or two..WELL out of range of any AE death spell of any sort. Let the tank beat on it until its open. IF the tank dies, its a simple rez, and rebuff and you are on your way again. This has always been successful for me.

GOod luck with the LDoNS! Good to see others are still doing them.

Some of the trapped chests will effect everyone in the dungeon. Only safe place is outside.

I've also heard of some traps (and they were in a hard dungeon) causing an automatic failure and boot from the dungeon. Not sure if that trap still exists, but a good reason to wait until you win before monkeying with them.

From my understanding there is 3 types of locks.

1. Mechanical locks. These are the ones Rogues deal with.

2. Cursed Locks. These required a priest to disarm. These are the ones my enchanter could NEVER disarm.

3. Magical Locks. These are the ones pure casters get spells for.

And of course sometimes you get lucky and there is no lock at all.

The morel of the story is, always have a rogue handy to inspect the chest before you try opening it...Who knows better about traps then the sneaky guy with pointy things?
