Some things in EQ happen with such stunning consistency that it baffles me.

As a necro I often like to group, but groups are sometimes hard to come by. So as a standby I'll throw LFG on then go solo somewhere till I get an invite. Invariably I will get an interested group the moment I arrive at some isolated spot. After making the run to Veksar (hiking through FV and LoIO has always been a bother to me) and making my way down to the Church...I get an invite to an EF LDoN. Which is where I had just come from to pick up my pet rune spell. Smiley: rolleyes

Another constant has to do with the Veteran rewards, but can be applied to any other activated ability with a long reuse timer. As soon as I use my double exp reward, without fail, I'll die on the next pull. This group I was in was very competent; we had done one adv in about 40 minutes with no hassles. So we went again. Since I was going to bed afterwards, and the exp was pretty crappy on its own I went ahead and used the Veteran reward. I was getting kind of warm so I took my sweater off. In the time it took to pull the sweater over my head, our tank pulled 2, got 3 adds and they all hit me at once. Smiley: bah That ended up leading to a group wipe.

What other extremely annoying situation crops up every time it can?

I'm pretty fickle with my platinum. I usually watch the prices and, in particular, wait (sometimes long periods of time) for a specific price for big purchases. Well, invariably I'll make my purchase, have buyer's remorse, and then have said remorse validated by seeing my newly purchased item well under what I paid. I suppose bazaar trickery will always be an absoulte in EQ.

Being a chanter I experience a problem with the double xp vet award. As soon as I (or anyone else) puts it up the mobs get harder. I see an increase in resists and hits. Mobs tend to be more social as well creating more adds. It appears it's coded in. I'm actually going to try and parse this someday to prove it.

This scenario repeats itself frequently:

1.) Log in - Gate to POK.

2.) Run around buying potions, pet weapons, buffs like KEI and Virtue, and make sure my Peridot supply is up to snuff.

3.) Trek through the artic waste of the Great Divide to Velks Laboratory.

4.) Get everything set up and then start pulling.

5.) Hit Double EXP and Stat Buff.

6.) Settle down for a nice hour of good EXP. Finally ready to push to level 56.

then the following things happen.

/you are low on drink.

So now I have to sit for the next hour and watch that annoying text scroll up my screen.

or....

Wife comes home from errands and wants to go for a walk with the dogs.

Those two things are random but are fairly common drops...

Get into a really good group, things are moving along nicely...then I see the network monitor start ticking down.

Look over at the laptop...dial up connection disconnnected!! OH NOES!!!

LD, reconnect, then get 1017's for 45 mins..finally give up and go take a nap.

Never fails...

"You cannot do that, its not possible"

"You need a full group, slower, tank and dps"

"It cannot be done without a warrior tank"

All these I often hear from self declared EQ experts.
All these I constantly disprove.
I swear I have more fun in EQ as I do not limit myself Smiley: smile

In the middle of a fight, the screen goes black.
After a few seconds, the desktop appears, with a message:
"There are new updates for your Symantec products. Do you want to update now?"

NO, I DON'T!!!!! GODDAMNIT! Back to the game...
After the session, I change Norton Antivirus options to automatic update.

During the next session:
In the middle of a fight, the screen goes black.
After a few seconds, the desktop appears, with a message:
"Norton has updated your antivirus definitions."

One thing I've noticed with my shaman, it seems like every time I make the decision not to bother someone for a rez, and just rebuff to go finish part of a quest or whatever I was doing, it happens. I'll fully buff myself, and my pet (which as any shaman knows takes a while in itself. I'll have of course done the corpse summon to get my gear, then once I'm buffed I run off to whatever zone I was when I got killed.

As soon as I finally make my way there, and am in the process of doing whatever it was I needed to do, I get the rez box from some kind cleric trying to do a good deed. Depending on the difficulty of getting to where I am I end up torn. Do I take the rez and thank the cleric, recast my pet, rebuff both of us and make my way back again. Or do I click the no on the rez and visualize the said kind cleric grumbling to him/herself "well see if I ever give that rat-bastid a free rez again"

I got rid of Norton for those very reasons. I now rarely get a black screen where an update on any softwares takes control.
I like how you hit the exp bonus from Vets rewards, and somehow, we die. Is this a fluke or what?

There is only one absolute in EQ.

Greens can still kill you.

Everything else is Bristlebane having fun with you.

Though I agree about paying for kei or virtue then having a mgb come in. With me it is usually when I have made a generous (for me) donation.

I catch an bunch of MGBs, begin my hunt and bam I die. Not because I figured I would go after something harder, I die to a LD or an add.

I just start getting comfortable solo and bam I get a great invite to a group. So I start trucking my fat troll butt across to the group. I arrive and half the group now has to quit.

I am in an awesome group and bam, some wiseguy decides we look like we can handle his overpull and poof we wipe and group breaks down.

How about this one...

Just about the time you have gotten used to all the "improvements" from the last patch, another "helpful" patch comes along. Now all your windows are goofed up, all the hot keys you had spent hours getting in just the right place are reset, and there are a whole bunch of new "improvements" which crash your graphics down to a place that a TRS80 could eclipse. And of course, this is minutes before you are supposed to meet for the raid of your dreams, so you have to live with visual hell for the better part of four hours. Repeat every 20 days or so...

Here's one...

Be afraid of the phrases "last mob" or "last pull".

or phrases like

"Sure, I can bring just one"

But if you waited, there wouldn't be an mgb!

Use double experience, and the great group you are in gets wiped.

The cleric's mana is in direct opposite proportion to the badness of the pull (which could be because lom means pull faster and oom means bring a train).

No AA, will kick in on the times you are most anxious for it to work, when you really really need to have a crit heal, or a good root, or not be noticed by the mob you are slowing, or doing that expensive tradeskill combination. They will kick in only if you are not desperate, or are doing a cheap tradeskill combine.

You forgot to add the inevitable end to that scenario. A few possible ends, actually, all of which used to send me to bed for the night:

After arriving at said LDON camp, you discover that
A) They guy that invited you does not in fact have a healer yet
B) The group got tired of waiting to fill up and disbanded
C) The impatient leader decided to fill your spot, despite the fact that you told him it would take you a few minutes to get there.
