New Spell IconsFollow

#1 Oct 28 2005 at 7:09 AM Rating: Decent
So far I hate the new spell/buff/song icons. Besides being very small the color scheme is bad, hard to tell from a glance what spell set I have memmed or which buff dropped/dispelled.

I never heard anyone complain about the old icons yet they changed them while many things that actually need fixing are ignored.

Yep.

Logged on last night and the first thing I noticed was the crappy spell icons. It's really hard to tell what is what. I suppose it will take sometime to get used to.

Other then the Icons, the interface is really nice. I like the easier to read experience bar. The blue line always bled a bit on my crappy monitor. The new experience line works much better!

I agree I hate the new icons the spell book is a blur...The Earth tone colors don't work. The buffs are so small you can't tell what is missing as Ez... at a glance they all look the same... I'll be going back to my bits and pieces UI .....
they get a B for idear but D- for effort.

Overall I like the new UI - and I agree the spell icons are hard to read. Also I really don't like that new hotkey bar.

I just pray that the Awesome folks who create the custom UI's that are on EQInterface.com please hurry and make a decent UI for this!

The only thing I don't like about the UI is the spell gems. The buff icons aren't so bad, but the spell gems are a blur and it's hard to differentiate between similar spells. Forget about it if you have 2 or 3 stuns loaded. The only way you'd know the difference is by memory.

It's too bad really, the rest of the UI isn't bad, and I was really starting to like the horizontal hotkey bar.

overall i like this UI better.
The one thing i dont like is the new spell icons.
Is there some way to make your hot buttons be vertical like they used to be? I am so used to that.

The custom hot buttons I had been using from EQInterface are still working but they have a new look but still vertical.

If you open up your spell book and step back you can see that some of those splotches of color actually have pictures in them. Unfortunately in the spell bar it is impossible to make out any images, just splashes of color. Is there a way to get back the old spell icons with the discernable images?

Look at the thread a couple of posts down about undoing some of the new UI changes.

Looks like Aulweyan already answered my question about getting the good icons back. His instructions are here. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1;mid=113050888159697976;num=0

I prefer the vertical spell bar. Why? Because when you hold down your alt key the names of the spells appear next to each slot.

If anyone is interested I have set up my own spell bar that showns the icons in an easy to view bar.

I have also set up all my hotbars to be horizontal (1 & 2 were horizontal and 3 & 4 were vertical). If anyone needs them all to be vertical or all horizontal or a mix and match let me know.

PM me for files.

Okay, so how to you change the hot bars from horizontal to vertical and back?

Is it an option somewhere, or are you just manually adjusting the XML file?

Also, is it possible to have a double row or double column similar to what the hotbar used to look like?

Without changing the XML files, I mean. I know you can change almost anything by changing the XML files, but I'd prefer not to have to start supporting my own custom UI just for small changes like these.

Another way to keep new and get vertical hot bars is to stop using hot bar 1 or 2 and use hotbar 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are horizontal and 3 and 4 are vertical. I found this out from a friendly soul in POK last night in OOC. I do think I'll be reloading my old spell gems though. I'm with everyone else, I don't like the new spell gems at all, but then last time they changed the spell gems I didn't like the ones I'm going back to now either, so time will tell.....

The new ui, spell icons, buff icons are all very reminiscent of the eq2 ones.

Same with the fairly new eq button for getting to guild, options etc.

When the guild hall came out, this was after they implemented the same in eq2...complete with tradeskill apartatus.

See the trend?

I think the problem with the spell gems is that the colored border on them is too thick. If they made the border more narrow, they could increase the size of the picture in the middle to make it easier to see.

The new look is going to take some time to get used to, that's for sure.

I like the look of the new UI, but yeah the spell gems are tough to figure out. I suppose in a few days they'll all be discernable from one another but right now I can't tell a nuke from a buff from an evac. Smiley: eek

I do like the horizontal hot bar though. It seems much more intuitive to read the numbers 1 thru 10(0) from left to right.
