EQ "Gift" ExpansionsFollow

#1 Oct 24 2005 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
I bought OoW and DoN for myself through the "Give the gift of everquest" or w/e link on everquest.com

Anyway...I bought them a while back today, and it still says I have only 8/10 expansions registered. I don't know how to register them, I never got an email or anything. I ran full file check like the GM said.
What should I do?

goto station.com

in the profile section there is an area to register expantions. you can enter the product key.

well it is someplace in that "general" area ;-)

i had the same problem with DoD, i purchased it, installed the cd...and it still said i only owned 9 of 10. so I did a /ooc in PoK, and was informed to do it at station.com, and it worked!

Aye, installing the CD does NOT activate the expansion for you. You have to enter the CD Key on theStation website.

Furthermore, the CD Key is tied to your account, so, if you have the extra space (or a DVD burner) you can make a complete backup of your EQ directory. If anything should go bad, you can just copy this backup to the install directory and be up and running again without running a full patch.

All of your expansions will still be registered.

Its sad how pathetic GM's are at assisting people with simple problems like this. I can't count how many times people have petitioned for help with something really simple and a GM giving them some off the wall answer that doesn't help.

People should take the initiative to look things up themselves.

After all, it is simple, right?

actualy, wasn't as simple as i thought it would be, i searched all over the station site and didn't find it the first time. i don't see why there wasn't a pop up screen to enter the cd key after you installed it. or at the server select screen, a button to press (activate cd key).

/shrug

I still don't think it's real simple, soe seemed to make the web site more complicated than need be. And when registering expansions it "knows" what you have, so just says something like enter key here, and wondering if you are registering the correct thing.

Frakkor is very correct, you do not need to install EQ so make sure you backup the directory. If your hard drive ever goes or you mess up your UI positioning or whatever you can copy it back to the directory and are ready to go. Saves hours of install/download time if you ever need it.

The full file check advise is good for a lot of things, I do it if I am getting weird problems or something. But it was sure poor in your case.

Log in to your account. One of the options is "Register Expansion".

Seems pretty easy to me.

ok, to show you how the site works, i went looking for it again.

first step:

login - easy enough

second step:

hit the button that says registration (your looking to register yeah?)

third step:

only option at this point is - edit registration

that takes you to the area to EDIT account information, IE password, secrect question..ect.

NOT to register a new expansion like you would think it would.

IE: that was a dead end.

so then your like WTF where to go now....

the answer is.... BILLING not registration, kind of *** backwards ehh?

once you goto billing, there is an option to register an expansion.

that is why i think some get confused, i know it is why i did, i didn't need to do anything to my "billing" when i went looking to REGISTER another expansion, hell, i allready PAID (billing) for it.

that is all i was saying, it isn't as easy as you guys are saying ;-P. plenty of room for head scratching at the web site.

still doesn't seem that tough to understand to me. Registration is the SITE registration...the website and game are different things.

It's even easier if you click on the ACCOUNT button on the sign on screen, takes you right to the page where you need to enter your registration key.

My point is, it's not unknown information by any means, that you need to register your expansions after purchasing them.

Judging by all the times this question has come up, and as many times as I hear it ooc'ed in the game, I am fairly sure it is unknown to many newbies.

Often a game does not have to be registered unless they ask you to register when installing.

I still make a few fumbles trying to find it, you just forget the exact placement.

When I was trying to keep track of when movelog was active when they merged servers, it was like soe really hoped you didn't happen to land on it, thus actually using it.

It must be widley unknown, but I still don't understand why.

I didn't get a CD Key. Thats the problem. Thats what I'm trying to say. I bought it for myself, through the "gift" link, so those of you that say its "so easy to just click register" please...check before you say something please.
