Having started playing again after a year away, I decided to play a bard as their versatility always appealed, and I like the challenge of a more complex character to play. Especially one that allows me to solo or group.

I gather from snippets that I have read that swarm kiting has been nerfed. Has Bard soloing been totally gimped? How do bards solo now? Anything else I should know as a n00b bard?

swarm kiting hasn't been nerfed. It just wasn't extended to 65-70, so higherend players cant really do it anymore.

pbaoe kiting was nerfed.

Yeah AoE kiting (get chased by a bunch of mobs while singing AE damage songs) was nerfed long ago. You can still swarm kite (via charmed mobs), chant kite (sing single target DoTs), fear kite and at lower levels simply solo melee using haste, slow and regen songs. With mudflation, melee soloing may actually be your quickest option up until level 30 or so but I haven't levelled a bard in a long, long time.

Bards had their AE (area effect) kiting nerfed a while back. AE kiting is where you would run around and gather 10-50+ mobs, run them in a tight circle and slowly kill them with AE damage spells such as Chords of Dissonance and Denon's Disruptive Discord.

Now, mobs that are moving, or want to move are unaffected by the damage portion of these songs.

Swarm kiting (aka charm kiting) is an entirely different form of soloing which is still working great. This is where you will gather 3-10+ mobs and get them grouped tightly again. Then you will charm one, let his buddies beat him down to low life, break charm with invis, and chant the mob down. Repeat.

Bards are a great class imo. I hope you enjoy yours.

Btw, check out eqdiva.com if you haven't already.
