Experience while Shrouded (DoD)Follow

OK, I admit it - I got a bit greedy and decided to experiment with power-leveling myself as a shrouded level 5 critter, using stacks of potions and working the fields of Qeynos Hills. I killed LOADS of rats that conned yellow to me, and each time it said I was getting experience. However, when I went back to "normal" form, it did not show any change in my XP levels under either AA or regular XP. So, that little experiment did not work.

But this started me thinking - how does XP work while shrouded? Do you simply not get any when you play toons that are lower level? Or, does the XP only kick in when you are grouped (or grouped with people who actually ARE that lower level)? I considered that perhaps SOE made this the case to prevent people from doing what I had tried: Soloing lowbie mobs who die easy.

I am still a bit concerned because if you don't get XP while shrouded at all, I'm not sure I would want to do that. I realize that the main purpose of the shroud/level alternatives is so that you can group with your friends, but if I was not getting any XP at all, I would think twice about doing it.

Anyone investigated this further?

My understanding is that you did get exp. However it was the amount of exp that a lvl 5 killing yellow mobs would earn. Lets say each mob you killed earned 10exp and you killed 100 mobs that would get you 1000exp which is a lot at lvl 5. But when you add that 1000exp to your high lvl toon you dont even notice it.

I don't know for sure but I think this is how it's setup:

A lvl 10 mob gives 100 experience points.
A lvl 70 mob gives 10,000 experience points.

Now let's say you need 1,000,000 more points to get to the next lvl.

You could kill 100 70 lvl mobs and get 1,000,000. Or you could shroud and kill 10,000 lvl 10 mobs and get 1,000,000. You are getting xp in shroud form. However it's not as much as you would expect. This makes sense though because the other way would'nt be right. A lvl 70 toon could just shroud in easy zones like Paludal, Crushbone, etc. Your thinking that the experience scales, when it really shouldn't. Just because you get 5% xp on higher mobs doesn't mean you should get 5% xp in shroud on lower mobs.

However I'm not sure how the xp affects the actual shroud. I'm not that interested in shrouds and don't use them that much.

So, in essence, what I suspected was right...you are basically getting the experience proportional to your true level, not your shrouded level. This means that although I can group with my lower level buddies, and thereby not negatively affect their experience earnings, I will not see any noticeable / appreciable XP gains myself.

Again, I think the primary goal behind the shrouds is to allow for grouping with friends at different levels, and also to allow you to fill certain roles (such as Cleric, when the true Cleric is not available). I am not knocking that, but it does influence my decision about whether I'd spend a lot of time doing that since I'd see no real benefit.

Has anyone calculated the rate at which shroud progression occurs compared to level variation? A level 65 friend of mine who tried the "solo powerleveling" trick also did not see any XP gain, but he reported 10% towards his shroud progression. I am not sure how many mobs he killed. I dont fully understand the shroud progression, myself, but I hear it takes a couple thousand mobs to fulfill a tier?

I spent about 2 hours in shroud with a few friends. When i went into shroud form I set my aa xp to 100%. My buddies and i headed to kurns tower to mess around. Once it was all over i netted about half a bub of aa xp. so it wasn't outrageous but it was good enough to make it a bit of fun hanging out with lowbie friends for a while. I also gained 4% on shroud progression.

the best benifit from shroud that i have found is doing tasks that change you. not actualy putting on a shroud then going and "exping" in a "camp". say the BB dock task, you can group with vastly diferent lvl ranges and gain 103% of an aa, and the lower lvl toons as well gain nice exp. in this task, everyone is reduced to a lvl 24 i think. and as you kill, you get NO exp, but once the task is over, you get a set amount.

it was a fun task as well, go and raid east freeport, killing the guards, good fun!

Your level 55 in the BB freeport MM. I have found it is not worth the trouble trying to level shrouds. At higher levels (60+) Shrouds are WAY too weak to really be valuable members of a group. I mean I shrouded into a 65 goblin rogue and played in Lowerguk abit. I alsomost died to 3 green frogloks as where a normal charactor would be fine.

I have used the shrouds to jump in lower level LDON's, but otherwise I don't use them. They take WAY too long to level IMO. I didn't work to earn all my AA's and gear so that I could turn into a wimpy monster and have to play for days to level a shroud. I think they should scale the power of the monster you turn into based on your AA's and gear myself.

I have found this to be the best analogy of how shroud xp works:

Shrouding allows you to get xp from any level NPC in the game. It is like being level 70 and everything still cons light blue.

You still get xp from killing fire beetles on your level 70 character but it is the same value of xp that a fire beetle gives when it cons light blue or higher to you.

is this true? so lower lvl players actualy get "raised" in lvl to play?

i am pretty sure we did one with a lvl 43.... so i "assumed" it made us all lower lvl.

Exactly what I have used it for. The points you get are small, but a win is a win for the augment upgrades.

The monster missions have pre-determined characters. They are whatever level they are for this mission. The BB Pirate mission is all level 55 toons. The Stonebrunt mission is level 25 toons.

It really doesn't matter much in the end, as your main toon will get the same amount of XP no matter when level you were in the mission.
