They actually had a feature a long time ago that let you be a monster on PvP servers called the Monster Button. It lasted 1 day and it was gone. I don't know if it was taken away cause of technical issues, or cause of the gangs of large snakes eatting newbies up. In any case it was the most enjoyable day of my life, I hope this monster thing in the next expansion is as much fun.

The only thing that concerns me is that SOE will do like they seem to always do and nerf the exp of the previous expansions zones trying to get people to buy it. Anybody remember LDON before Gates???

Monster feature seems like a good idea, you can help friends who are new to the game out more easily without having to make a new char.

I think the features that SOE have implemented in the past year or so have already made being a newbie easier.

Actually the PvP thing lasted about 2 weeks I think it was. It was called Project M, and I think they probably cancelled it because of all the newbies not getting eaten up (too many twinks), but instead the irritation of a level 3 medding and getting hit for 4 dmg once then they blow you to bits =p Or maybe I just got a crappy zone with crappy monsters :( (mostly CB orcs >_<)

I think its a cool feature but its not the only reason to get the new expansion for me just one of them.

Project M was actualy tested out for months on test, where it worked as intended, and was a hoot, I loved popping up as a desert madman in oasis (which was the place to get exp before SoL came out) and sit under the dock randomly nukeing people who came to med and heal after a fight. Sadly, it did not fare well when it was moved live to the PVP servers, as to many mobs were griefing newbie chars (since PC's can't kill eachother till after lvl 10 or so). While I would love to see project M style play return it does not sound as if the DoD expansion will have the same flare. Still, I'm looking very much forward too it.

Why come up with something like this how bout making some more lower and middranged zones or just come up with a monster race or class i could play a warewolf zerker
#10 Aug 06 2005 at 3:37 AM Rating: Good
project M was actually live on -all- servers for a short while.

it was moved to pvp servers after people realized that having 500 mobs trying to kill noobs sucked, it was removed completely when people realized that hey! the same thing was true on pvp servers.

I can't wait to see the exp explotes that are gona be there the first few days before the change it. Gona be nice like tribute was before they changed it. I suggest try as many monsters as possible the first few days or what extra fun there will be gone.

It sounds like a fun feature, but is not the primary reason I will buy the expansion.

I remember Project M and the thing was, aside from the short-lived novelty of hitting F9 and seeing yourself as a moss snake, game play was about the same only now I has 15hp and no weapons or armor. If I want to see myself now as a moss snake, I'll summon my stupid Jester in EC and wait for him to illusion me. Then I can be a moss snake with Selo's! Smiley: grin

With all the new *newbie fix's already, armor, newb zone to start ect, they should work on reworking older zones to make them more attractive or making more low-midrange zones instead of this and all the high end stuff.

I remember being a bat in GFay, a puma in Oasis, and a giant spider in LFay. The latter two had no one in them, although as a bat I was helping two really low level characters kill things once they realised I was a player behind the bat (I just nipped at them instead of rabidly attacking like a mob would), and I "nodded" when they asked if I would help them.

They have made being a newbie easier from level 1 to 20, after that it seems like your just stuck cause so few people are your level. I have tried making alt charactors, but it seems like once they outgrow PC you can't do much unless your are super twinked, or a solo class.

They made the newbie levels way too easy, I remmember killing rats hoping to find a plagued rat tail just so I can buy a bag from the vender in EC.

I think it's very awesome, but I wouldn't buy it for that alone. I didn't quite think it had to take a backseat to the other features, so I didn't vote that way, but I'm gonna use it alot just for fun.

When i reactivated my account and started over i had a blast from 1-50.. the 50-60 game is what needs tweaking.
#20 Aug 06 2005 at 4:00 PM Rating: Decent
omg this last post.. 50-60 isnt twinked? all the expansions are basicly for 50-70's. i havent really had fun being 1-30 as i did before PoK/Lucin..now its no fun really, got to tutorial, then to PC then echo..same old

i think that being a monster will be a blast! i never got to use the M experimet thing, but i have always wanted to be a werewolf...that's the only mob that i'd pay 30$ to be....lol. i jez hope theres some midrange level things to do in this expansion too.
#21 Aug 06 2005 at 4:06 PM Rating: Decent
too many people are complaining about more newbie content and more midlevel things to do. i have to disagree because, although i enjoyed slugging along through those levels, i have no desire to be that low again. the upper levels is where most of the action needs to be, and there are already a lot of places lower people can hunt - those complaining arent lookin hard enough. consider being a lowbie prep work for the majors.

i am disapointed that we have to pay for getting this feature back. but hey .. it's more stuff to do other than 6 hours of lfg.
#23 Aug 07 2005 at 1:33 AM Rating: Decent
Im going to wait a couple weeks to get the expansion. Every time SOE comes out with one, they have good stuff in it to get people to buy, then they nerf everything that was fun about the expansion a few days later.
#24 Aug 07 2005 at 6:35 AM Rating: Decent
Apart from having the word "Monster" in it, Play-as-a-Monster doesn't look to me to have much to do with the old Project M concept. It would seem to be much more like EQ's answer to EQ2's excellent Mentoring system, which allows players of any level to group and get xp.

Mentoring was one of the few truly welcome innovations in EQ2 and if Monstering is anything like as good as Mentoring it could be a very significant development for the older game.

What im just wondering is whenever you turn yourself into a lvl 50 something monster will you still be able to wear the gear you have, like lvl 70 require gear? If not i find it to kind of suck to have to go back and buy or farm some lowbie gear that isnt all that great.

Ya, I tried that once too, but then I realized; I'm going to buy the expansion anyway, so why not enjoy the first few days before it's nerfed? It's the same $30 now as it is a month later.
