Anyone know why the Froglok DoN smithing component you must buy (Valorite or some such) is THREE times as expensive as comparable items like Mithril, Adamatite, and Fortified Bronze that are used in High Elf, Ogre, and Gnome DoN smithing respectively?

Check it out.
Small bricks of valorite are 18pp and change while large bricks are 52pp!

For High Elves, Ogre, Gnome, Iksar (Yes, I have done some DoN smithing for those) the small bricks are 6pp and 18pp for the large.

I pretty sure the Froglok gear is NOT three times better. I have sent a comment to EQLive Devs corner.

I haven't done tradeskilling in ages so please pardon my ignorance.

What's the overall cost to make the stuff? Is the total cost of making comparable pieces three times the price? or are other components cheaper?

Are some of the pieces you need foraged or dropped only? If so, what are the forage and drop rates like for your stuff versus the stuff needed for the high elf, ogre and gnome armor?

It wouldn't surprise me if Sony did break something but they do tend to get a lot of things right.

I am talking about the STOREBOUGHT items you need only.

In the new DoN cultural, in order to make a peice of armor (smithing), you need:

Cultural Smithhammer (STOREBOUGHT)
Cultural bar/sheet (1-3)
Cultural Armor Pattern
Large brick of cultural metal (STOREBOUGHT only)

To make the cultural bars you need:
Cultural Smithhammer
Cultural Item (dropped, depends on tier: Journeyman's, Expert's, Master's or Grandmaster's)
Small brick of cultural metal (STOREBOUGHT only)

Cultural sheets are made from : bar + water + cultural hammer

So what I am saying is, the bricks you MUST buy from vendors cost three times as much for the Frogloks as they do for High Elves, Ogres, Gnomes or Iksars (the races I have first-hand knowledge for).

Edits:
I should add you need to make the combines in the cultural forge in your hometown (or wherever if you are Human or Half Elf).

Oops forgot this key peice of info:
Small bricks of valorite (Froglok metal) cost 18pp and change.
Large bricks of valortie cost 52pp and change.
Small bricks everywhere else cost 6pp and change
Large bricks: 18pp.

This is with CHA of 128 so there is not cha/faction increase, in any case, cha/faction would only acount for 10-20% of an increase NOT 300%.

I think it was known you meant storebought on that component in the combines. I think the point was that even though 1 element may be more expensive, there may be other spots in the recipe where other items (or a combination of other items) is cheaper so that the OVERALL cost for making the item once might still be comparable to other racial culturals of that ilk.

Kanador hit the nail on the head.

Look at it like this. My step fathers diesel truck requires 2 filters and five quarts of oil per tune up....nothing more. Those filters are about $50 each. His tune up is total $110. That's a bunch of cash for a filter.

My gasoline truck requires 4 filters (about $15 each), a cap/rotor ($15), spark plugs ($1 each), spark plug wires ($25) and oil ($10). Total is about $115.

So his filters cost more than 3X what mine cost. Does that mean his truck is 3X better than mine?

IMO I think a 6.0 litre diesil F350 is 3 times better than the same F350 with a V10 Triton just because the diesel engine will last twice as long as the gasoline because the diesel run alot cooler. Not to mention the diesel will pull alot more weight than the gasoline and use less fuel Smiley: wink

Not that barbed bone chips (ingredient in both Froglok and Ogre Journeyman's Bars) cost the Frogs any less in time and effort.

Look, it's the SAME DAMN procedure except one race pays 3 times as much as the others for REQUIRED items that are STOREBOUGHT only.

It takes roughly the same amount of effort to get your cultural book of armor patterns (actually easier for Wood Elves imho).

There are no hidden costs for anything else, trivials are exactly the same across races. The only thing that is different is the dropped item you need and that is NO WAY easier to get for Frogloks.
