LDoN group questionFollow

I’m going try 3boxing. This group of three would be primarily for LDoNs. I’m going to be trying this on the test server with test buffs until I find the right combo for me. I’d really like to hear what you guys think. I know there are some great players out there, and I’d love to hear your opinion on this.

Many thanks for your time and input.

Well, the typical approach is to pick a trio that (a) fulfills as many standard roles as possible and (b) can all be played by you.

Back in the day, I used to trio (not three box) LDoNs using my bard and a friend who duo'd a ranger and a druid. Ranger tanked & DPS, druid healed, buffed and nuked, and the bard... well.. I did pulling, slows, haste, mana regen, crowd control, melee, etc etc Smiley: grin This worked until we hit lvl 63-65 dungeons where the mobs were just too much for the ranger to tank effectively (at least at her gear level).

Obviously I doubt you want to box a bard, but you get my point. I'd stay away from "one flavor" characters like warriors, rogues, wizards and clerics and try to maximize utility and roles. Buffs you can get in PoK or even via potion now. Paladin would seem a good choice until the high 50's when lulls cap out (unless that's changed), shaman is a no-brainer and perhaps a druid for heals, nukes, snares, etc. Little light on DPS though.

CC + Healer + DPS

Shadowknight = puller + snare + tank

Shaman = slows + dots + buffs + heals + cc (root) + proc buff

All that's needed is a dps class, necro, beastlord, mage, wizard, etc.

Through my late 20s and all through my 30s, I found it was easy to trio through high risk LDoNs with myself (mage), a monk, and a cleric.

at higher level, say 50's, a slower will become necessary. otherwise it'll be intense on healer's mana. unless the tank is uber twinked.

lower levels (50down) have a bard....., cleric/druid...., shaman/enchanter...........if you plan to do the same at higher levels ...pick warrior, enchanter, cleric .....at lower levels the druid offers almost the same healing as a cleric with the druids added buffs (sow,ds,root)....shaman also offers needed buffs and can slow as a enchanter does...bard offers many different things and can tank the mob.....thats my oppinion if you dont aggree please dont bust me out....correct my errors and remember this is a opinion

How far do you want to go? Fairly important question to consider when deciding on your trio.

For the long haul, warrior, cleric and chanter is probably the best combo.

For casual stuff, mixing in hybrids will make for a tougher box, but faster missions if you can handle it... Shaman, Shadowknight, and Monk might be interesting.

Having some redundancy can make a big difference when you get higher in level.

Personally I would choose the most esential class and build around it.

I think it is a toss up between a shaman and a cleric.

Guild hall rezzes have made life a lot easier, but still wastes huge amounts of time, having your on the spot rezzer is worth a lot of compromise in other areas.

Same thought with puller and tank.

At higher levels a puller who can split makes a vast difference to what you can do with comfort and what becomes simply impossible to do.

So, Shadowknight for tanking and pulling, or a Paladin for tanking and rezzing? Its a tough call.

Maybe compromise on the pulling a fraction and go Necro for pulling and DPS?

I think that is the way I might go.

Paladin - great tank, rezzer solid curer and healer.

Shaman - as Assailant said, slows are essential, the healing is good enough, the buffs really make the Pally an effective tank.

Necro - excellent puller (a bit dependant on player skills) some very usefull CC and pretty good DPS.

The biggest weakness is no porting and no evac, but these are things you can live with.

An alternative would be;

Shadowknight - good tank, good puller.

Cleric - excellent healing, rezz, OK buffs and some DPS, some CC.

Mage - excellent DPS, some tactical CC if skills are good.

Same weaknesses as first group but added CC problems at lower levels (SK snare is pretty hopeless for quite a few levels).

I'm doing SK/Shaman/Necro myself. The necro can rez if needed.

If he's playing three characters at once, I doubt he'll get anything useful out of the bard since he can't twist. /Melody sucks in those situations and, even if he did use it, it'd take almost as much attention to making sure the melody didn't drop as it would to just twist.

Etuy,
How far do you want to go? Fairly important question to consider when deciding on your trio.

Ash,
My plan is to go as fare as I can with the trio. I’ll try to explain what I see that being. Being that I am playing on the test server, I will not be tweanked. So my plan is to gear up though LDoNs, and then progress though the game as far as I possible can.

Iluien,
You bring some good points to the table. Thank you

The group I an working on now consists of….
SK role, Pulling with FD pull if needed, and tanking
Druid role, Buffs, DS, DPS when needed, and heals
Shaman role, Buffs, DPS, heals. Later on he’ll have a pet to add to the group.

Right now I am hunting in the Sarnk Fort in LoIo. This is more of a testing ground to see how the mechanics of the group works. So far it seems to be working ok. The one thing I can see that I’m missing is lull pulls (or equivalent). But once I’m past level 50 – 55 I don’t think you can lull pull that much any way.? So the FD pulling of the SK should really kick in.

Okay here is what I think I will be missing when mobs get harder. HoTs (heals over time) from a cleric. This line of spell is a great agro reducer IMO. Also the ability to rez would be nice.

But for now I’ll keep working the group and see how it works out.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond and contribute your incite into this topic.

S'why I went paladin in my imaginary group (lulls, heals, rez, buffs). Paladin/Shaman/Druid might be a bit overkill on heals but, then again, you only die in this game because you ran out of hitpoints.

Other classes (cleric, chanter, bard) can lull in the post-50 game but paladins tap out around 55, as I recall. So you might start to appreciate the FD of the SK by then if that's your pulling/splitting method. Could also try pet-pulling with the shaman or the druid baby-bear (though I don't know how well the bear would work) or even just root-splitting (root Mob A, have mob B aggro and chase and try to have it dead before Mob A breaks free and rushes you).

Firstly I think I would replace the druid with a dps class like a beastlord, wizard, monk, necro etc. The druid doesn't add enough dps imo, your going to need more bang for your buck at the higher levels. Besides, you have more then enough healing power with the shaman and the shaman has HoT's too. Hell, with just Slow and Quiecense I had a necro tanking in PoV with no problems. It was actually kind of funny.

Secondly try pet pulling with the sk. Just make sure to buff and SoW the pet. I pull singles everytime. No need for Lull.
