I noticed from reading castersrealm that the first flag you need is to go onwards from the Plane of Tactics. In order to get that flag do you have to get all the lower flags first?

None of those threads answer the question. With the patches allowing access to most planes according to level instead of having to get the flag, I'm confused about whether you have to have those flags any way in order to progress to the plane of time. If I don't need to get the lower flags then I'd rather not go through the effort.

So you want PoTime access without putting forth any effort.

Well fortunately for you, this is actually possible. Get a Time-enabled guild to 85 you in and you can actually get flagged for Time (you have to loot something from I forget). I'll let you actually put forth the effort to look it up.

This will not however garner you flags for the EP's and other flag only zones.

In order to get flagged for Elemental Planes, the regular way, you do need to do the flags to access each plane in turn. (I think).

So even though you have access to Plane of Valor, you still need to do a Plane of Justice trial at some point.

Gaining access to a plane by level does not count towards porgression towards EP/time. You just have access for xp purposes. You can also kill the boss of that plane out of order, but will have to visit the Seer in PoK to straigten things out when you get the preceeding flags done.

Short version

You need every flag. You need PoI Behemoth, You need PoNa maze, and PoNb Terris Thule, You need PoJ trial (any 1), you need PoD Grummus...

If in doubt, you need it. Even though you can zone into future zones further into progression you need to get preflags eventually. You cant zone into EPs with just RZ flag/SolRo flag you need all the prereq flags too.

Yes you can get 85/15'd into fire and kill Fennin Ro and be able to zone into fire from then on (Like I did) but You will still need pre and post flags to zone into time.

Yes you can get 85/15'd into time and loot an item in Phase 3 and be flagged for time (like I did) but you will not be flagged for any of the privous planes from this.

I have a very screwed up flag situation

In order I Did

PoNa - Maze
PoJ - Trial
PoI - Behemoth
PoS - Aid Askr
PoV - AD
PoD - Seryn
Tactics - VZ
Time - P3 loot
Tactics - RZ
Fire - Fennin Ro

I still need Terris, Grummus, Bert, TV, Agnarr, SolRo, Earth, Water, Air... I had to get a picture of the progression and save it local then paint X's over what I have done to figure it all out. (sorry I dont have the link to the flowchart)

Good luck to you tho. Is an interesting journey.

You could do them out of order but you'd have to straighten them out with the seer and the librarian afterwards.

Hehe. I didn't say that. I said if I didn't have to I didn't want to. Now that everyone has answered me definitively, I'm more than happy to go through the trials. :)

maybe I missed it somewhere but dont think anyone brought it up some of this flagging gets you AAs for having completed it. I dont remember which ones exactly am sure someone else can tell you but remember I got at least 3 AA for the flagging I have done to date.

I also wanted to add that getting into any of the zones by way of the backdoor access quests (Killing Banished Efreeti in Western Wastes to get access to Sol Ro's Tower, for example) do NOT count toward the planar progression.

They will grant access, but do NOT get you an AA, or any other rewards/access associated with those zones.

I hate planar progression. Nothing like paying for a expansion you can't use because you don't spend 5 hours at a time raiding.

At least now withplayers being able to hit lvl 70 and such it might be abit easier.

I find that comment extremely misleading. EACH expansion pack offers content for various levels of gaming experience.

Planar Progression is not an expansion, it is a series of quests from an expansion. Like everything else in the World of Norrath, the more work you put into it, the greater the rewards.

Examples:

Tradeskills: You don't HAVE to do them, but if you spend a lot of time (and plat) doing so, you can make some REALLY nice stuff.

Epics: You don't HAVE to do them. They require a lot of work. In fact, the 1.0 stuff for most classes is crappy compared to what you can now buy in the bazaar. HOWEVER, there is a reward (accomplishment, AA, fun, opens 1.5 etc etc).

Quests: The hardest, most time consuming quests in the game yield the biggest rewards (usually).

and finally;

Planar Progression: You do NOT have to do Planar Progression to play EQ. You can reach level 70, see some great zones and get some fantastic gear without ever having to do one tiny bit of Planar Progression. However, if you choose to spend the time doing it, you will reap the rewards (too many to list, but for me the biggest reward has been the fun I have with my companions as we scratch and bite for each little flag).

Sooooooooo, to say that you "can't use an expansion because you don't spend five hours at a time raiding is simply not true." Each expansion offers even the most casual player some playable content and features. However, if you still feel that you should have access to every cool feature of the game just by buying the expansion and not working for the rewards, then I can think of several Online games I would be happy to recommend.

Actually, POK no longer requires you to have Planes of Power as it once did.

Not neccesarily. Depends on whicih backdoor quest you do. The original quests that have been in PoP all along (such as the Diaku quest in PoS) do NOT give you a progression flag. The new bypass quests that were added back in December (such as the bypass Behe quest in PoI) DO count for progression, though you wont get the AA and the like.
