#1 Jul 16 2005 at 5:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hello me and my dad might be starting eq back up after about a year hiatus. He will probly make a beastlord and i was wondering what would be the best class to go with it. I was thinking of a druid sham or necro.

P.S. If u have an ideas for beter classes to go with a beastlord by all means tell me

I team up with my friend's necro all the time. The combo's dps is really nice.

The druid won't add a whole lot if it's just the two of you. The shammie wouldn't be bad, but there's a lot of redundancy. My recommendation would be the necro.

That's if you are determined to have one of those three.

I disagree about the druid. He'd add, most importantly in the early levels, snare. Also reliable healing, moderate dps, and of course easy travel/evac. There would be times when he could add a second pet for dps but that would be risky.

I'm not saying a necro would be bad, just that a druid would be a reasonable choice as well.

I don't think there's as much redundancy as people assume between a BST and a shaman. They both have slows, and cold based nukes that are horridly mana inefficient. Shamans have much better slows and godly attack buffs, and their heals are workable.

I'd be tempted to go with a shaman just because you could start off together no matter what race you choose (unless you decide to be a froggy shaman, which doesn't make sense to me anyway).

I find shamans kind of boring to play, though, personally. But that's me; some people love playing them, and I'm glad of it because it's a very valuable class.

IMO:

I have a lvl 53 Primalist on Morden Rasp/Povar.

To team up with a BeastLord I reccomend a Pally as they have some decient heals and HP buffs and can Pacify as well as root at around lvl 20. They can also Stun, all this and the Pally is also a mele class. Pallys can also use a bow to Pull or the Beast can pull with a slow spell. Beast Buffs especally the STR and AGI ones are good for the pally too so it's a good partnership to have all the way around. I Grouped with a Paladin for many many of my levls and that would be my recomendation to you

If your partner knows how to use a Pure Caster Class then it can be bennifical but you loose the addition of the Mele and the BST allready has DOT Spells and some Cold Nukes.

A Rogue is a kewl choice as they not only can be fun to play but can get you into locked places(if it's Locked you maby shouldnt be in there anyway! he heh)

You wont want to partner a BST and a WAR unless you want to spend your time medding.

Bards, Monks, Druids and ((Shamans(WAY KEW BUFFS HERE)) are all three fun in there own way and offer a different variety of spells and abilities.

A few points on the BeastLord:
BeastLords Don't kite well
BeastLords Don't Fake Death
BeastLords get Warder's NOT Pet's! Different Races of BeastLord get different animal Warder's. (Tiger, Wolf, Alligator ect.)
The Race of your BeastLord will also effect your choice for a suitable partner. Going Nutral like a Vah Shir(whichI did) will make it less complicated and you will havemore fun with your toons if they are more closely allighned. This will make questing a bit more fun also.

around lvl 20 they can also Stun

Actually paladins get their first stun much earlier than level 20. Cease is at level 7.

I was reffering to the Paladins ROOT spell starting somewhere around lvl 20 NOT! the Stun spell all you have to do is read the english in my previous post. Also all one has to do is look up the Spells here on Allah to see at what lvl they are aquired and what they do. BUT THANKS FOR PLAYING! *Heres your Sighn*.

No here is yours. Note that you edited your message a good 15 minutes AFTER your post. Your original text, as shown by the part I quoted, refered to stun.

Even with the edits, the level 20 bit could still be taken as being meant to the stun bit. Hard to tell cause your puncuation is lacking. Before you jump on folks about misunderstanding what you are trying to say, how about making sure it actually DOES say what you want it to.

Example: Here is how you wrote the line in question AFTER your edit.

can Pacify as well as root at around lvl 20 they can also Stun all this and the Pally also is a mele class.

I assume you meant it to read this way:

can Pacify as well as root at around lvl 20. They can also stun. All this and the pally is also a melee class.

Edit: Here's your sign!

No it won't unless you plan on hanging around newbie areas by cities.

While I agree with the portability of druids, necros can also snare. Maybe I'm biased because I generally duo with a necro (while not soloing or in group of course.) I do know that my 65 necro partner adds a heck of a punch and we typically blow through mobs with ease. Sometimes, I play dps to his kiting too, which feels weird to me, but is efficient.

Another note:

With the necros ability to reclaim life and mana, there is little to no downtime for either of us.

Once again though, that's just my opinion. The necro would still be my choice, although any of the three would work.

Beastlords are a class that brings something to any Duo, adaptablity is thier strong point.

So pick a class you want to play and run with it.

OP never mentioned if this was gonna be a kite group or not.If it is a kite group then a Necro/Beastie combo all the way.I dont mean to offend druids but

I think their contribution to a kiting duo is nil to none.I hardly notice a difference when duo kiting Murks in NC with a druid partner.

Then again I think I hate druids because one day soloing in nc I had this druid root rotting mobs right in my kiting path one time and every time I would bring my mob by it it would aggro my pet and smoke its *** before I realize what even happened.

Play a 70 Bst and here's a bit of knowledge for ya.

1, Bst can kite just fine. all you need is one of these 2 pet buffs https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=2890 or https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=2888and turn off pet taunt. The pet aa for snare is a nice addition but not necessary.

2, while Bst's pet's are technically called warder's there is no difference between Bst pets and other pet classes pets in they way they act. When the Bst was first introduced in the game there was a big difference The pet was called and cost no mana to call. Each pet buff increased the pets lvl and abilities. hence the Bst pet being called a Warder not a pet because it wasnt a conjured being like other pet class's pets but now there is no difference.

My 20's Bl has had some fun with the womans 20's chanter.
But I would take the cleric BL or ranger BL as well.

Yep, chanter is another class that pairs well with just about anyone. Good slows, great haste, mana, mez, illusions and more!

Just... kinda delicate, so be careful with him if you go that way.

Except bards! MUUUAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA! Smiley: sly

That's not the question of course, so to the OP, I would suggest either a druid or cleric. BL's aren't the BEST tanks out there, but they do reasonably well. The druids and clerics heals/buffs (the druids DS's and HP buffs and clerics AC/HP buffs in particular) would be great contributions if you were letting the BL and pet alternate tanking. Once you get to a level where you really don't want your BL tanking, you'll probably want more for your group anyway (ie a tank and some more DPS), so it wouldn't be a problem.

The necro would be really nice if you wanted to aggro kite (or even fear kite) most of the time. The druid would fit this bill well also. The cleric wouldn't play a very big role in a kiting duo though.

A chanter would be good if you're using charming for additional DPS. Since they don't provide any heals, you would really need that additional DPS to counterbalance that (the higher slow/haste percentages make them a worthwhile addition also). Again, they probably wouldn't provide much in the way of a kite group, unless the BL could generate enough aggro to keep the mob chasing them and not stopping to pound the charmed pet.

So, overall, for most situations, I would probably suggest a druid, but a cleric, necro or chanter would be good choices also. Don't worry about trying with a bard. The bard would get bored with the slow XP pace and just go solo Smiley: tongue.

yea it prob would be a kiting duo. i thought the necro would be good for fearing and and thenthe pet and bst sick the mob and i dot. then i thought the druid wuld be good cus he get nice dps good buffs and then can still heal. then just have bst and pet tank but that dosn't last long. then nothin agians't sham i like sham and plyed on for a long time but i just throthat in there for to see what ppl said.
The chaner sounds like a cool idea i played one up to like 15 once and i had a lot of fun but not sure i want to go thro the trouble of having a chanter maybe after i get in to the game a ltl.

I box a beast and cleric... they are a great duo. That is for boxing though. One thing you gotta think about is what your Dad is gonna do when you are not on... A necro is a great class for soloing when you are not around. The big issue is what he likes to do... Cast and med, or get in and fight? Druids are good to duo with and make great utility toons as well. (buffs, ports, heals, DS)
It really is a matter of his style of play though.
