Anti-virus programs generally don't do well with online games. That's they usually say something along the lines of "Be sure to turn off all anti-virus software and your firewall settings may need to be adjusted for best performance."

Your choices are to:

1. Turn off McAfee before you play each time

2. Deal with it since you know it's going to happen every patch and you're going to have to tell it to allow full access again. This is a total pain, I know. When the popup comes up, it tends to ***** everything up. You can't window out of EQ properly to select "allow", but the game won't load completely until you do... I've successfully done it a few times, but I can't for the life of me figure out HOW I did it.

3. Don't play online games. Seriously, almost all online games will eventually run into a problem with anti-virus and/or your firewall.

Umm...If yo uare using the "Home" version of McAfee go in to the Anti-virus configuration area and select "Advanced". In there turn off script blocking. This should help.

Also to counterbalence the removal of the script blocking feature move to another Browser. (IE Blows anyway) I prefer Firefox.
Most Script Virus's and trojans are made to attack IE and other MS products.

Or just disable your virus checker when you're patching the game. Seems pretty straightforward...

My McAfee VirusScan runs all the time, the entire time I am playing, have never turned it off, no problems at all. So maybe there is a setting or someting (don't ask what, I didn't set it up).

It's pretty common knowledge that virus scanners and games do not mix. That's not saying that they NEVER mix, but generally, they do not work well together.

The problem is that a lot of Virus scanners do active protection. They are constantly scanning files, which can cause a couple of problems. First it slows the machine down..it adds an extra layer of complexity. Secondly, it can lock up files that the game is requetsing.

For example, there was a recent issue with EQ and AVG Anti-Virus that was causing a 1 - 2 second lag opening any new windows. This made casting spells, or opening the inventory screen very difficult.

Best option is to just disable anti-virus while playing. You can always do a virus scan after you are done to make sure that your PC is still not infected.
