War Event - GFAYFollow

#1 Jul 13 2005 at 6:01 PM Rating: Decent
Hail everyone, trying to find information on the event

How does it start, etc.

Some boards are saying via task master it start, but no information on it and nothing listed here.

Anyone have any information.

Thanks

I think a GM will trigger the event on your server. You do not have to do anything. Everyone will be able to see the NPCs, etc, etc. Of course that's after the GM triggers the event. I think this is how it will work.

This is how it works:
You zone in and ask to be invited to a raid. Pretty soon there are at least enough to form one full raid for the good guys, maybe half that forming ranks with the evil ones. Then you wait. You kill scouts. Then you wait some more. Start catching up on languages. Go to the various named and hail them, and try to make sense of what they say. Drink a boatload of coffee. Blow every chance of ever fixing wife or GF faction with the argument that "This is a unique event, and it's bound to start any minute now". After ten hours of this, log to trader and go to bed. Wake up next morning to find nothing has happened. Do this for three days. Then look at the boards one day while bored at work and find the war has come and gone while you were away, and your chance to pitch in is gone forever.
Not saying I have a great idea how to avoid this kind of thing with a dynamic sript like this, but otoh I am rather disappointed :(

Developer Rashere IIRC said on the main SOE boards that the actual war event was a 12 hour script that had no intervention, once it started it took the entire 12 hours and ran completely automated.

From what I've been able to piece together over the course of 3-4 days on my server; Bear in mind this is the order I found them in. I may be off +/- a few hours so one or two of these may be out of order.

Dark Elf squads in EC
- then -
Orc Conscripts at orc hill
- then -
Faydark captains x3
- then -
Faydark Tactician, and general
- then -
a concerned guktan and traveling priest in Innothole swamp
- then -
High elf armies
- then -
War Suppliers
- then -
Warlord Mish and advisors
- then -
Orc Scouts
- then -
Tier'dal advisors in crushbone
- then -
Orc spys
- then -
Gobs of Orcs spawn and the war begins in Gfay
- then -
War suppliers started suiciding

Guys and Gals...a word to the wise. Unless it's your own guild doing it, don't join pickup raids during this event hoping for a better chance to get loot. Understand that the raid leader can set and specify loot rights. Just because they might advertise that they will /ran for loot doesn't mean that they will.

I never joined a group with my rogue and got both items that I planned on getting and only died once over 3 hours and had particpated is so few kills that was still not KoS to either side by the end.

I got myself the item I wanted most a Roughspun Cord of the Faydark Defenders. I ran around the zone many times and I saw a captain fighting a Warlord with no players around, the Captain was getting beat badly. When it was at 20% I let lose two arrows into it, the second one hit. When it died I got the Experience and looted the belt. I zoned afterwards to get aggro from "a ranger" off me. I tried many times prior to do this becasue I was told in serverwide.war chat that this could be done and again after many times and failed, either because others were causing more damage than I or because I tried it on non captain or orc battle leader mobs and it did not work on them.

I also got an Insignia of the Faydark Defenders which was on a captains corpse rotting under a pile of players corpses and was not lootable until I choose hide all players corpses option. It had 4 mins left. I figured I would not get a needy caster to that spot and explain to him how to hide player coprses and loot it in that time. It was only a slight upgrade for me. Though I am not yet sure what avoidance does exactly, when I figure that out it might be a decent upgrade.

I heard late in the battle that there was a rare drop cloak from the orc battle leader (correct name?), did not know stats or who could use, as well as a rare drop casters mask which I saw a link to, from the orc battle leader as well.

Well here it is mentioned that the battle for Greater Faydark may not be over. The war itself is a one-time event, but there are still many battles methinks.

On Maelin, we've already fought one battle but there are currently two camps on each side with no named mobs up yet and no Tier'Dal in CB. All the elves are around Kelethin. If you ask me the orcs should sneak around them and sack Felwithe while they're not looking.

My girlfriend was playing around in Gfay yesterday morning and there were still loads of orc squads running around. Kinda fun to see a group of Tacvi/Anguish people get zerged by an orc army. I think she walked off with an xp potion and a one time Troll illusion clickie. ;-)

Was in Gfay Wed nite there was a pack of good guys beatin on orc and a couple of toons where standing near by to clean up and loot. At about 20% I start shooting with arrows and low and behold when the buzzards swoop in at 2% and finish him I ge "you have gained experence" I run up and loot him (sure that frustrated the lv 50-65 guys standing around)got "elixar of greater learning" woot hooooo! thought I would try it again second time mind you I am standing next to three kelethin lift guards The orc is being battered about 50 m away I start shooting on about the tenth arrow a whole hurd ov orcs run me over. I haven't died that fast since I was like lv 5 in BB and one o the named ogre's ko me in one hit. Learned me a lesson and called it a night after a nice lady REZed me
