EverQuest - Live Update - 07/13/05
----------------------------------

*** Headlines ***
----------------------------------
Trouble grows in Norrath! Dark Elves have been seen traveling the lands reeking havoc as they pass. Cities are calling out to their citizens for help gathering supplies in preparation for possible war. Something big is happening in Norrath now as the Age of War continues.

*** Events ***
----------------------------------
- Players should no longer be KOS to Killvak or the troll raiders in Barrenzin's mission "Trollish Bloodlust"

*** Spells ***
----------------------------------
- Increased the damage, mana, and cast time of the Necromancer and Shadowknight spell Siphon Life to better fit the progression of the other spells of the same type.
- Fixed a problem that caused Shadowknights to proc the wrong effects from Spirit of the Puma and Spirit of the Jaquar.
- When a rogue /consider's an NPC that can see through normal forms of invisibility, and the rogue is hidden from the NPC due to their Shroud of Stealth, the player will continue to receive the "indifferent" consider message but will also receive the following message: "Your Shroud of Stealth keeps you hidden from watchful eyes."
- We have fixed the gating issue when on a mount and you are in the same zone you are bound and your vertical location of your bind point is much lower than you are currently. You will no longer fall to your death. Yeah for falling!
- When casting bind, your current heading will now be saved.
- Dark Sieve and Dark Sieve Recourse now have 200 range.

*** Pet Focus ***
----------------------------------
- Increased the innate AC bonuses granted to level 66+ pets by focus effects.
- Increased the melee damage bonuses provided by pet focus effects on level 66-70 pets.

*** Items ***
----------------------------------
- The new potions will now be level restricted as they were previously intended to be.
- Some type 9 augmentations are now usable in the charm slot.
- Plaguebreeze will now drop more frequently.
- Removed Patorav’s Amulet from the "bonus" table on Overlord Mata Muram.
- Mask of the Heretic now has 12 AC.
- Blightbringer’s Cap of the Grave now modifies the Specialization: Conjuration by 12%.
- Any type 9 augment that fit in a visible slot now is also a type 12 augment.
- Jelvan has learned the technology of the printing press and will now distribute his writings more often.

*** Auto Consent ***
----------------------------------
- Auto-consent raid, group, or guild will now auto-consent all future and existing corpses. If you turn off auto-consent then consent for your group, raid, or guild will be removed from all existing corpses. Please note that in order for a group member or raid member to be able to drag one of your existing corpses, they had to be in your group or raid at the time your corpse was created. This is the functionality that has always been in place.

*** Tasks and Missions ***
----------------------------------
- The entrance to Everfrost is now a little easier to explore.
- The issue preventing some groups from entering the Unrest mission has been fixed.

*** Graphics ***
----------------------------------
- /viewport should work with Advanced Lighting on now.
- We have fixed a common Reset Device error.
- Fixed an issue with rendering trees and other alpha'ed textures when running on older hardware.
- We have fixed a common crash with our DLL.

*** Particles ***
----------------------------------
- We have made some fixes to the particle rendering. Some people were seeing square textures.

*** UI ***
----------------------------------
- You can now use the "Enter World" button at character select if you are camped in tutorialb.
- Merchants' items should now be sort correctly using the Quantity column.

*** Tradeskills ***
----------------------------------
- Changed one of Chef Chowderly’s recipes. Pan Seared Orange Tuna will now use a Non-Stick Frying Pan in the recipe instead of a Large Stewing Pot.

Well it looks like they still didnt fix the issue with Lesson of the Devoted expiring early.

Okay, might as well let the cat out of the bag since most folks don't know about this one.

There is a bug with Lesson of the Devoted. It doesn't affect all players, but probably a lot. When you turn the buff on it says 30 minutes, but for some people it will vanish when the buff supposedly has 1 minute and 36 seconds left. Most people dont monitor their buff timers that closely so it is largely un-noticed. I actually discovered it by accident when I was trying to get a big kill in before it expired. Then I duplicated it three times to be sure. I /petitioned it, /bug and /feedback. That was two months ago and the bug is still unfixed despite two big patches.

My "theory" is that the bug has something to do with SCR3. When the veteran rewards first came out, SCR supposedly extended lesson of the devoted. Then they "fixed" that. I bet the "fix" messed up the duration timer for those with SCR3. I am not sure on this, it may actually affect people without SCR3, would need to be tested.

Anyways, I am posting this here in hopes of drawing more attention to it from the player community. The next time you use Lesson of the Devoted, check the timer when you get under 2 minutes to see if you're affected. If so, please report it using the in-game /bug command. Hopefully if enough people bring it to their attention, it will become a bigger priority.

Ha, I knew they were going to nerf the potions, now there are going to be tons of abandoned lvl 30 wizzy twinks. =)

Crap. I already had 1,000pp worth of those potions stockpiled from the bazaar. Man I was loving those.

I am level 42, I wonder what level of the potions I will be able to use? ( VII, VII, IX, X?)

Well it was fun while it lasted.

BTW. This is the poster "Joujouka". Firewall issues cause me to have to have a new signin for work. But since Amenex has become my new main I think I will be Amenex on the forum from now on. Greetings all. I couldve waited until I got home to post on Joujouka, but it was important that I gripe about the potions immediately. I guess I'll have some potions for sale in the baz here pretty soon.

On edit: I just saw it on Alla's that it's elixir level VI that I can use. The one I was using just because I had a few extras and was remarking how crappy the mana regen was and how worthless it was. Now that's the best one I can use. Thanks alot SOE.

Boy, am I glad I just bought two of those Lvl X potions last night "just to try them out" with my lvl 47 shadowknight.

(I'd give the Clarity X one to my main but it's a bard Smiley: dubious )

"Boy, am I glad I just bought two of those Lvl X potions last night "just to try them out" with my lvl 47 shadowknight. "

I sympathize. I got hooked on them right off the bat and bought stacks and stacks of them, beause people were selling them discounted in the bazaar. (clarity x, health x, etc)

I have now officially wasted abut 1,000pp which was my supply that would've got me through my 40's.

If they would've came out and had level restrictions right off the bat, I would have no problem with that. I just hate being jerked around, SOE jerkoffs. Bite me.

Yeah. Not like the missing 1:36 is going to kill me though. I think fixing graphic issues and death-when-gating issues were reasonably higher priorities. Although I'm not so sure they really "needed" to fix pets to make them have better AC and dps *again* (mini-rant: This is like the 3rd patch message in a row where pets recieved a bump in power. Where they really "weak" before? Maybe I'm just not seeing it...).

That does explain why when I use the lesson of the devoted and the steadfast servant at the same time, the servant seems to last a bit after the lesson has faded. Again though. It's not a big deal.

How do you get down to 1:36 in the first place?

I always tend to die when I hit my vet xp. It's like signing my own death warrant. I swear SOE somehow coded mobs to become more aggressive and higher agro when this is running.

/grumbles

You might be missing 1:36 on yours but I only get a few minutes out of mine.

It's a matter of perspective. Some would say that broken text or broken quests are not a big deal. Maybe those should be a low priority too.

/agree that death when gating was a HUGE issue and was glad they put that on the fast burner.

I dont get that problem, but what I DO get is this one.

step 1: join a good xp group

step 2: xp for a bit to make sure the group knows what they are doing

step 3: ask if anyone in the group is going to take a break soon because i am thinking of using my vet rewards.

step 4: Since nobody responds, activate Lesson of the Devoted

Step 5: enjoy the xp for the next 5 minutes

Step 6: Curse the reject in my group who NOW says he is going to take a 15 minute break for sandwich. (always the cleric, puller or CC btw). Swear to not fall for this again...

Step 7: Leave the group and go solo and remember why I rolled a pet class in the first place.

Step 8 Rinse and repeat..

Lol. Or you do what I did in a group last week. Clicked on lesson of the devoted. 15 seconds later realized I was pretty full on buffs, and as a tank that can be a bad thing. Clicked off the spell icon with the brain on it, figuring it was some int buff or something. Realized what I'd done a half second later...

Sigh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks SOE coded the mobs to ramp up the agro when the Vet reward is engaged. I don't remember the last time I got the full duration of Lesson of the Devoted. Maybe the mobs are attracted to the glow that swirls around you when it's active.
