Possible returning player - questionFollow

#1 Jul 11 2005 at 5:28 PM Rating: Decent
I played EQ for 2-3 years, taking many breaks inbetween and playing many characters, my highest being a druid that was ~lvl 45, i quit around when omens of war was coming out i believe.

after looking at some EQ stuff, i saw they merged all the PvP servers together(i used to play on rallos zek), i thought it was a great idea and kinda wanted to play again
well we all know that EQ is a HUGE grind to level 70, some would argue that the grind only starts there with all the AA points and raid gear, i was thinking about buying a character, but im not sure
also, another question i had, is the pvp(high end or not) totally based on gear? with all the insane gear out there, it seems that pvp would mostly be based on who has better gear

so, my questions are, about how long is the grind if you start at the bottom? and is pvp totally based on gear or is there still a considerable amount of skill?

thanks in advance

I will get flamed for this but it is true and you should be aware of it. PvP success is determined by Heal and buff bots. That is, characters outside of a group or de leveled so as not to encounter the PvP level restrictions.

PvP(as with most other RPG pvp games) is mostly gear...infact in EQ I'd say it's 90% gear 10% skill...skill really only matters when you are equally geared.

Like you I had taken a break from EQ. I left right around Velious. When I was contemplating returning, one of the things which worried me was the grind. Since I had been gone for over 3 years I thought my old account had been deleted so I made a new account and got started. I was very surprised to be able to make a war and level it to 45 in about 3 months without PL’ing and twinking as I started in a new server. After about 3 months someone told me to check and see if my old account still existed and sure enough it did.
My suggestion would be to check your old account. Even with the server merge, there may be a chance that your old toons still exist and therefore would not have a hard time getting back in the swing of things. If your toons were deleted, I still think it shouldn’t be too difficult to get to a respectable level in little time.
