If you had to choose either grouping with a shaman or a druid, which one would it be?

depends on so many factors that answering is impossible.

Not least level, who else is in the group, where you are hunting, if you know the chars conserned, and thats just the basics.

Pointless question, hell they don't even do the same job for crying out loud.

come on... okay, theyre the same level as you, theres no one else in the group but you and him

Sorry your question is still to general.
Does the mob hit hard? Id take a shaman for slows. Does it have lots of HP? maybe a druid for dots, snares and kiting.
Too many variables.
On the other hand there are a few zones where folks really wont go without a slower, but there are not many where folks wont go if they dont have a druid.

Duoing? Shaman hands down is the best partner in a duo.

As for groups it all depends at higher lvls I would grab a shaman over a druid as a healer since at high lvls a shaman can handle most places. At lower lvls I would grab a druid for healer......If it's for a back up healing spot I'd always grab a shaman....better utility.

if there both the same level as me and i'm the only one in the group i would take both.

If you asking about duo'ing then say so it's a different question and i would take the druid below 30 and the shammy after.

Depends on what toon I'm playing with also. If I'm playing my bard... neither probably, but I would probably pick the shaman over the druid if I HAD to pick one.

If I'm playing with my necro, I'd prefer the druid. That 14 minute snare is just too good to pass up, and the healing factor is pointless with lifetaps/LT DoTs.

Hmm interesting I would have thought that a a shaman would be better with the necro(b/c of slow and a necro can snare) while a druid might be better with a bard(since a bard can slow/haste and the druid can snare/nuke/heal)??

Nice, not sure about the Beasty ones but i see where your going with them.

I've always wanted to see how a Mage/Necro pair would work higher end, i played it as a duo with a friend untill 30 and they just ripped the world to pieces.

Necro tanked with lifetaps and the pets just pulled everythong apart early levels and fear kiting with the 2 pets was pure ebil.

A necro/mage would be interesting lots of firepower

For melees a shaman is a better partner, frankly. For casters, however, I'd go druid for the mana regen and better heals.

For hybrids, pick one.

On the hijack subject, mage/necro is a very good, fast combination but there is very little room for error. I duo my mage and cleric quite a bit, and except for the limited CC (cleric root), it's a good combination as well.

so a druid and shammy pretty much level out?
#16 Jul 10 2005 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
It depends what you want they are two completely different types of chars. They only thing they have in common is that they heal.....it ends there the utility they both provide are completely different

Personally for Duoing I would always , 100% of the time, chose the person I liked better and wanted to play with. I would find somewhere the 2 of us could play together.

I will assume you are speaking of strangers and I have no exp with either good or bad.

Druid is better... for me. As an enchanter I charm duo and snare is the strongest thing I can add to my arsonal. If you find a place where there are animals then the druid can charm too for twice as much fun.

The thing is it totally depends on what class the respondent is. A tank would like a shammy better for slows. A caster would never want to get hit so slow become un important as you want to root rot or kite.

In groups Shammies don't compete with healers for groups, they compete with slowers.

Sounds to me like he is trying to decide between two classes and wants to know which one to pick based on group-ability.

I would say go with the class you like the best. Besides Sow/Dots and healing theses classes are fairly different.

I like to box my Shaman/SK duo but my main is a Druid so go figure.

Shammy's best role is buffing and slowing (de-buffing).
Druids best for DoTs and Travel.

Both can solo but I prefer groups myself.

I find a druid more versatilve and fun to play. Shaman is a lot like a cleric - absolutely essential in some areas, always welcome, but nearly always the same in terms of play.

A druid can do so many things, but doesn't necessarily excell at any one of them. You have to work a little harder to carve out a spot for yourself. You have to be great to stand out from the crowd.

Personally, I like that.

If your trying to decide on what class will be more popular in groups I would have to lean towards Shammy at this state in the game. Mostly because they can Slow and at least on my server there seems to be a distinct lack of slowers logged on during my playtime.

However, I would not base a class choice on something like this. This could change 2 days from now if druids get a new spell or ability or shammy's get nerfed. Play a class that you like, the game is too dynamic for one class to always be in demand for the rest of your toons life.

I can only comment from what I've experienced. When I play my druid and partner with a friend who is a Necro. We usually just go to Jaggedpine and slaughter gnolls. In my humble opinion you can't beat a druid/necro combo in an outdoor zone. I just KEI up the druid and buff the necroe pet...make sure the Necroe has SoW/SoE(in case of Fubar). Then all I have to do is DoT/Snare(sometimes) and nuke. Occasionaly throw a heal on the pet. However as to the original question I prefer the SHaman in a group. I say that because in a group situation I'd be playing my ranger. However, I've always been a big fan of EVAC. So then maybe a druid would be nice. In the end I'm just happy to have a group. My only real requirement is that we have a good healer be them Shammy, Druid, or cleric.

Don't Shammies get better DoT's than druids?

Personal choice would be shaman for duo partner, every time.

I rarely DoT in groups anyway. My resist debuff + nuke is more efficient unless the mob has a gazillion HP.

As several people have already said, this is a pointless question.

May as well say Shadowknight or Enchanter? They have about as much in common.

Shaman are more of a support class that Druid, before all the Shaman start getting their back's up, I mean in the sense that a Cleric is a support class.

Shaman buffs and debuffs are the most effective in the game.

Putting aside healing, a Druid is more of an offensive class. Their ability to add directly to the damage output of a group is where their strength lies, especially outdoors when charm and fear can be put into effect.

If I was playing my necro I would want the shaman first because I think that they get chloroplast first and that helps out alot with my mana conversion, they can also slow which is a good plus...
If I was on my chanter I would want the druid so that we can kite
