I wanted to go kill some High Elves, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary near Felwithe.

Due to the nature of my business, my vote goes to "anything that moves".

There were three or four Hi elf defenders of Tunare in the dead center of zone killing all you bad guys this morning

Being my main is a Half-Elf Druid of Tunare, I will be fighting to help the High Elfs. If I can help....because at lvl 51 I may be a bit low. But, what the heck it's only xp and I would much rather have fun and die, than be bored sitting around waiting on a group. Smiley: grin

I, for one do not know where I stand in this. On my way, for the 1st time to Stillmoon, I pass into the good side entrance to to caves and was attacked by the guards. So I went around to the evil side and was allowed to pass but was shunned by the dark side because I am a Barbarian. I have not yet pulled out my high level Warrior to see if the Dark Elves would attack her. They did attack in FV, and at the entrance to and inside of Neriack, so I supposed all being the same the would again. I would imagine the the High Elves in GF would not appreciate a Rallos Zek deity follower in their territory as well. So, I guess, for now I will watch my backside and battle anything that attacks.

'What care do I have of what happens to the vile Elves that have turned away from the light? Their wicked ways will prove to be their downfall. Evil cannot create, or prove to be a victor in this conflict. It can only destroy itself from the inside. War is for humans and other races that are not the chosen of the Gods. They do not know any better.

The reports recived today seem that it is inevetable that Felwithe must intervene in this conflict. War is at our doorstep. Damn those Trolls and Vile Elves that have in their childish wisdom forced this upon us! How dare they attack our beautiful city! We now have no choice but to involve ourselves and our involvement will prove to bring peace again to Antonica.'

/Role Off

Although it seems that the war is supposed to turn out to the DE's advantage, a High-Elf wouldn't think that way :)
Pros in this storyline is that fact that dead zones will be full of people again. Cons are that the people will all be 65+. Guess my low lvl toons will have to be careful when they are farming or lvling.

The scouts were changed (last night? wasn't on due to network problems) to be less annoying but I'm sure anyone who got stuck in a death loop and finally got revenge only to have no reward was a might miffed. I don't care about the drops, since I'll never see them anyway but having absolutely no reward for presumably participating in the event isn't going to encourage participation. How long do you think most people are going to stick around if they can't even make back lost xp?

I hope now there is actually something constructive to do.

I watched my mother and father die in South Karanas at the hands of filthy dog-faced gnolls when they broke through the earth and took what was dear to me away. My family, our farm, everything was destroyed in fire and blood. I escaped with the help of a druid who I never learned her name, I only know of her elvish lineage, and that was all. Seh was the single point of light in a dark and unending nightmare.

To hear suddenly that Antonica, my land, my home, is threatened to be overrun by dark elf scum, that trolls and elves are gathering like the storm clouds that hang forever over the Karanas, to fight, to murder, to destroy...I have no choice...

I have heard the scourge is now found only in the Commonlands, and if I have my way about it, this is as far as they will go. Though I can not fight them outright, I can resist. I will resist. I will not let this disease move west, move to sweep over all that I have left. If I die so be it. Tunare as my light and my way, I will do all I can to help the High Elves defeat this menace. Because if they lose, we lose...

As much as the humans of Antonica deny it, as much as we want not to admit it, the future of the elves, and humans, are one...

I hope this becomes something big, its a good story line and the lowbies can figure out quick how to stay out of the way...hey...its war...and even if I am not high enough to directly be involved...this is what the game is all about, isn't it? I am glad its happening, finally.

I'm with the High elves on this one. They are the "good guys," and always win. It's a shame really, a Dark Elf invasion would be a great change of pace.

Gotta agree with the lowbies staying out of the way. With the new tutorial you can get lvl 10 before leaving. If you are a good race then hit up Crushbone to lvl 15, if you are evil hit up Kurns. Then move on to Paludal. All those zones are no different atm. So just don't work on LDoN's in the Commonlands. It isn't like you are gonna do the 70 that it takes to make that part of the aug anyway, so do something else and come back when this is over.

Now about the no xp or loot part... wtf!?!!

Yep, these guys hit HARD! They can kill lvl 70s, drop NO loot (except rusty garbage) and give NO exp.

Yep, yep, yep, well thought-out indeed. /sarcasm

Not everthing in the game needs to be about XP or loot, does it?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a word ABSOLUTELY.

What is the advantage of losing experience and a level and not being able to get them back? Killing for killings sake is not my cup of blood.

Just my 2 cp.

YES it is about the loot and exp what else is there ? Do you really think you would still be playing if (loot/exp) didnt exist? Yawn fest

Hmm... Personally, my characters have factions as follows: (0 = neutral, -1 = KOS, +1 = good standing)

Froglok Shaman - humans 0, high elves 0, dark elves -1, trolls -1
Vah Shir Beastlord - humans 0, high elves 0, dark elves 0, trolls -1
Dark Elf Wizard - humans -1, high elves -1, dark elves +1, trolls -1
Iksar Monk - humans -1, high elves -1, dark elves -1, trolls -1
Halfling Druid - humans 0, high elves 0, dark elves -1, trolls -1

Total - humans -2, high elves -2, dark elves -2, trolls -5

Guess I chose right. Kill anything that moves!

However, sinse Dark Elves are cool, I'll help them, High Elves have their uses, I'll leave them alone, nobody likes Trolls, kill them, and ***** the Humans, we're better off without them. Down with Trolls! Down with Humans!

The last war went to the evil guys so I think the High Elves will take this one.

Me and a ranger buddy managed to get a DE alone in EC, ranger kited while my wiz nuked, burned up a whole bar of mana getting one guard dead. Kinda stunk there was no xp or loot, but I guess we threw in our lot with the good guys. (though as an agnostic Erudite I was indifferent to both the high elves and the dark elves).

So I am still trying to get the whole gist of this.

I know there a roving bands of extremely powerful DE's in Commonlands handing out dirt naps to unsuspecting players there.

But it is that they (The DE's) are trying to take over Felwithe? In that case, have there been those DE soldiers spotted in GfAy or anywhere near Felwithe?

I am indeed a DE.. but.. I am not one to blindly follow the masses.. so....not sure if I will get involved or am even powerful enough.. mostly I will be doing what I do best.. lookin' out for #1 (see also: me)

:-P

Though it would be kinda interesting to see Felwithe as an evil city and be able to go there.. but alas.. where will the high elves go? Maybe they can shack up with the woodies in Kelethin.

shrug

So far, there have only been sightings of the Dark Elf patrols in East Commonlands, North Ro, Oasis(?), South Ro, and Innothule Swamp. (there's a new small camp in Misty Thicket if lvl 15-ish DE's but that's for an unrelated task for newbie armour for good guys, given by the new NPC V'lynn Renloe in PoK)

If you go into Greater Faydark, there are new mobs there as well, but it's small camps of good guys, generally consisting of "a captain of Faydark" (wood elf warrior), 3-4 rangers (wood elves), 2 enchanters (high elves), and a paladin (high elf). I'll be looking around Butcherblock later to see if anything special is being set up for the war.

why must soe ruin the old world zones like this...anyone know when this crap will be over?

Keep in mind that Dragons of Norrath also had a lore build-up just prior to its release. Much the same, two forces piled up, got ready for several months, real time, and then engaged in a conflict in a several-hour long event that resulted in archaic and arcane dragons and necrotic horse riders rising in a unique event that told the fall of retreat of Firiona Vie.

I am still not sure what this war thing is or what is to happon.

It's safe to assume that these mobs could be around for a little while, until just before Depths of Darkhollow, the newest expansion for Everquest is released this coming September, in which there will probably be a huge shakedown somewhere around Antonica or Faydwer, or in multiple small dynamic events over the course of several months.

Granted, the events will unfold in much the same way per server, but you can have fun during these events and get some good drops when it happens. It's sad to see, though, that they look like they'll be for the lvl 60-70 character, much like the Dreadlands war, although for those that are that high, it will be fun. Count on several ARTIFACTS being dropped in later events, like with the Dreadlands war, a giant named zombie dragons appeared near the end of the event and, when slayed, dropped several ARTIFACTS (those are the kind that are one-per-server idea)

That would be cool, but a little crowded hehe. On a lighter note, I could see SOE tipping the scales to even out the loss of FV, so that Felwithe will survive this. You also have to wonder, "what will happen to Freeport and Kaladim?" They are right in the way of the Dark Elf forces amassing to attack Felwithe, or maybe Felwithe will instead push past Freeport into East Commonlands, keep it secure for newbies soon, and march on to Neriak. Also keep in mind, I forget where I heard it, but someone mentioned that the Trolls are getting restless in Neriak and are thinking of reclaiming their home of Grobb, where the good Frogloks now live and have named Gukta.

Perhaps the Neriak/Felwithe war will end in a stalemate, with not much changed except minor things in the zones where major battles were fought. This also leaves a little to the imagination as SOE has announced that with the new expansion, they will be "reenvisioning Nektulos", much the same as they recently did to Lavastorm Mountains, I believe, or like Mistmoore Castle and Infected Paw (Splitpaw), where higher levels now roam (but hopefully not that high, it's a dang newbie zone lol) so maybe the Dark Elves and Trolls move to Grobb when the High Elves attack, moving the Guktans out and moving them into another city (Freeport? maybe a new city altogether with the new expansion, like they did with Paineel? [I remember a long time ago when you had to OPTIONALLY patch Paineel so that your Erudites could be evil and start as necros and SKs]). This is not to say you need the new expansion for the new city, but maybe they will add a new zone that you don't need the expansion for and the Guktans are moved there.... or more simply moved into Neriak LOL

lol I know I jumped around alot during that post, but I hope it answered some questions.

*edit: I'm dumb, the news said they'd be reenvisioning Nektulos, I said Neriak before. my bad*

*edited again: I looked in butcherblock. no new mobs. that I could see. Maybe someone else will find something I missed. I just followed the path straight from GFay to the docks*

TickaTokka, I know your sig is rhetorical, but the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles per hour, beating its wings 7-9 times per second rather than 43. And a 5 ounce bird cannot carry a one pound coconut.

EDIT: I can't spell.
