Sauloman,
I don’t know a darn thing in regards to tinkering, but check out this link http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/news_page.php?menustr=010000000000. If you search for recipes with items you can hunt for with ease. You’ll find yourself skilling up faster. Also if your not sure what an item is or how to get it, use Allakhazam’s site for reference.

Just take some time and do a bit of home work..

A. Do not expect to make money at tinkering. You will end up spending a lot more on it than it will return.

B. Most of the basic tinkering recepies are pretty cheap and the components are vendor bought.

C. Once you get into advanced tinkering, its geerloks all the way. The components are easy to farm and cheap to buy.

For a good write up, go here.

Hey, wait just a second! No capital letters, punctuation, or any sense of continuity.... you're not smart enough to be a Gnome!!! Silly Ogre, only Gnomes can Tinker.

I know the first thing about tinkering.

First thing is only gnomes can skill up.

I know a few other things too.

Gnomes start at level 50. You cannot 'skill up' until level 16 but this may have changed recently.

So lets say you are a gnome and level 17, what to do?

    1. Get yourself a Deluxe Toolbox (if you haven't already).
    2. Get yourself a geerlok clockwork contraption.
    3. Go to abysmal sea and skill up to 54. What? all that for 4 skill points? YES! Actually I did the tasks later (at skill 100+) and it was much quicker but you do want to have the secret to create dark-matter.

    Now to skill up....

    Mechanized Lock Picks to 62.
Very useful item for lock pickers.

    Standard Bow Cams to 75.
You CAN sell these for as much or more than it costs to make them. You can make them cheaper than NPCs sell them.

    Stalking Probes to 102.
Useful item and fun. NPCs will buy back for *almost* what they cost to make. You can even use and sell back the empty probes I think.

DoN Journeyman's Armor is now in there at 120-135 but you need knuckle joints from Plane of Innovation. Might be a problem for a level 17 to get.

Tinkered Catapults to 135. Keep these as you will need them for Weather Rockets later. A pain to make because you need Hemp-strung recurve Ashwood bows.

Aqualungs to 148. Expensive to make but useful somewhat. Also a subcombine for a rebreather which is used in the Warrior epic. I have sold these in the bazaar.

Corking Device to 174. Requires a blue diamond but you wont have any problem selling these. Required to make popular brewing combines.

Expert's DoN gear to 196. Requires knuckle joint and not much of a market. Not many plate-wearing gnomes sad to say (I have 2!)

You can also make Meteorological Rockets to 196 as well.

(This is about where I am at at level 158)

Final piece of advise. MAKE PLENTY OF ROOM in your bank for tinkering doo-dads. Many sub combines are NOT stackable. Many of the ingredients are not stackable either.

I hope one day to crack the 200 level but it is slow going. Have your wis/int as high as possible and have lots of seed money. I have not *wasted* too much that I could not recoup but some things will cost you 2K to gather stuff to attempt one stack of combines.

Nice post Dothammer but I would like to point out that you don't have to spend that much skilling up above 200.

Once you cap out with the stalking probes I would suggest you move to Geerlok Fermentation Device. The trivial for this item is 215 and it costs all of about 3p to make. The only bad part about it is that you spend weeks farming the hell out of Netherbian Lair to get the porous mineral block.

The trival difference between the stalking probes and the geerlok is huge, but is it way cheaper in the long run.

Aye, I have done that one when I could get the porous blocks.

In fact all the geerlok devices are not all that expensive to make. Some require subcombines that may or may not be easy to obtain.

Success is minimal though with the high trivial, thats why I would suggest attempting them when you get up in level. Of course if you have NEED of one, you may find them cheaper in bazaar.
