Decisions decisions.....Follow

Well after much deliberation I have made my choice. I've gone through a druid to level 19, then finding it all too rubbish so quitting....I've had a necromancer to lvl 14, then I found that the solo capabilites aren't all that.....Then a lvl 16 warrior, but what! No magic...so that was the end of him. Finally with the new tutorial open I've found my perfect class....Shadwknights. They get class magic inc. Harm Touch a great spell for emergencies, skele pets, class armor, class stats, magic, can melee like a warrior and they can handle nearly any weapon!! 1000000/10! If you want a class that can melee and magic....dont use a druid or paladin....Get a SHADOWKNIGHT!!

If you haven't played a character to 40, then you haven't played a character.

Why 40? Why not 50, or 35, or 62?

In my opinion, the level doesn't matter that much. Some people (who have definitely more time than I do) can get a toon to 40 in 2 weeks... Are they good players? Do they know how to play that class? It all depends...

I can see how lvl40 constitutes more knowledge of the game than a pre-lvl20 character. By that time you know decently most versions of spells/abilities that you are going to get. Any other spells/abilities (besides AAs) you get past that are just better versions of previous spells.

But in the same post I will say... Someones level does not constitute a good player. It only shows that someone has succeeded in using their skills to get to where they are. Someone may be lvl40, and know how to kite/heal/keep agro/CC, but they may not be extremely good at it in a group.

I'm happy that lwotton has found a class that he enjoys. And that is really what its all about. Who cares how fast you lvl up? Just play a class you're happy with.

There is something to say about getting a class to a certain level to REALLY know how they work.

I would say play a cleric to at least 39 and get your CHeal.

Druids have several points in their career which change SOP dramatically.

40 is just a general level where most classes have reached a stage where the impact of their class contribution is most noticable.

But again, If you do not want to slog through the 'slow' levels of a class, DONT!

Necro's are just about the quintessetail solo class, very few do things better and none are set up with soloing more in mind <except maybe druid.>

Hard decisions indeed. that's why I have 7 toons; 5 of them are 60+ so I can play almost any type of game whenever I want.

Most classes get all their spells that are important by 40. Necros don't even get a root that works on the living untill 34. And please, just take it from me that a necro's ability to root is vert valuable.

Guys. Remember that this is someone suffering from PNS. How much do you want to bet that when he get his SK to level 14, or 16, or 19, he'll decide that SKs suck, or are boring, or something, and move on to some other class...

Agreed as to the lack of ability to comment on a class after having played so little. I also tend to agree with the 40th level demarcation. That's usually about the point at which most classes have "matured" in terms of the class specific abilities are apparent, and the role they'll play has firmed up. While details of balance and use vary as you level from that point, generally by 40th level the "staple" powers of each class are available, and the distinctions between classes really begin to be apparent.

Yep, you are really not going to know anything about playing a Shadowkight until you get FD and start pulling with it.

Every class has a "defining" set of abilities and most of the time these don't really kick in untill the high 30s/40s.

In the case of a SK it is FD and the Hate/Jolt line of spells.

Oddly enough a Druid is one of the few classes that has all of its key abilities by the late teens.

Snare/SoW/AEs/DoTs/Heals/Harmony and Charm all kick in by 20.

Hrm.. yes. IMO the first burst of how good a solo class a Necromancer is the early 30s when "Dooming Darkness" combines with "Invoke Fear". Next thing you know you are in your low 50s.

And it gets hard again.. (isn't it hard for everyone in the late 50s?) until PoP spells remind you just how easy it is to be a Necromancer.

But.. some people prefer to be in the front taken lumps and kicking ***.. more power to you! I like being safe in the rear, with the gear.

I don't know much - but I know whether I like playing a class by the time I ding 20. Doesn't mean I'm a good player than or even that I've seen all that class can do - but I have a good idea whether I want to keep playing em or not.
