Epic bug?Follow

Hello, I am not getting any replies in Ranger forums so I will ask here.

I killed the 2 DE Reavers and the DE Corruptor only to have the Corruptor despawn as he fell dead to the ground. No loot for me !Is this a bug?? I petitioned and got the coin back needed to trigger the spawns and plan on going at it again tonight. Any information will be helpful.

I have read many posts that state this exact problem but no one seems to have the answer. And since the GM did award my petition (1st time in 5 years lol) I am assuming there is something wrong with the quest.

Thanks !

IIRC

Try killing the Corrupter before you slay the reavers. You may need the help of someone to keep them mezzed while you kill/loot the reaver.

This makes me believe they didn't have the chance to kill any of the druids...I'm pretty sure that makes the Corruptor depop.

Nothing wrong with the quest and the fact that your piece was returned shows the problem with SOE moving their CS overseas. The epic piece should not have been returned as this is the intended purpose of the encounter if you fail.

The first half of the Druid Epic is identical to the first half of the Ranger epic.

About 15 seconds or so after the final turn-in a zonewide message will appear informing you of the spawn. 1 Corruptor spawns as well as 2 reavers. Each of the Reavers has a pet that must be stopped as well as the reavers before they kill Athele. If Athele is killed before the corruptor is killed and looted, OR the corruptor is not attacked within 10 seconds of him spawning he will despawn. (Fall to the ground and dissapear)

More than likely what happen is that you missed one of the reavers pets and he killed Athele before you killed the corruptor causing him to despawn. In which case you should have had to start the entire epic from the begining. Again this is the intended purpose of the encounter if not done properly.

Exactly the opposite. If the druids are killed the corruptor will despawn.

thanks for the info...but let me tell you what I know thus far from the encounter. It is quite possible an error was made...I just don't know where at this point.

After the Corruptor despawned, (Killed and vanished as it fell) I immediately ran back to druids. All druids were still huddled up on the beach. The pets died first, then the reavers, then the corruptor. None got off the mountain or was even remotely close to the druids....including there pets. I had 2 Necros immediately engage the Reavers and their pets while the corruptor ran to me just short of the base of the mountain.

The only thing I can think of is that the Corruptor needs killed 1st like was mentioned above. Then focus on the Reavers.

What do you think?
Thanks...this is what I need and some good stuff

The way it was written it could have been taken either way. I took it as not killing the druids will make him depop. My mistake.

Yeah. We always just offtanked the reavers, killed the corrupter, then finished off the reavers. The main thing is that the corrupter must be engaged *immediately*, and may need to be killed within a set amount of time or he depops. Basically, my understanding of the event is that his mission is to kill the druids. It's basically a timer issue. After X amount of time, whether he's killed the druids or not, he despawns. So if you just stop him, but don't kill him quick enough, he'll disappear. If the druids are engaged by the reavers before you kill him, he'll disappear.

General strategy is to offtank/kite/root/whatever the reavers while everyone else concentrates on killing the currupter. Leave the reavers for mop up. Key is to turn that curruptor into a corpse (with the item you need!) as quickly as possible, while preventing anyone else from getting away. I've seen the curruptor despawn just because a single reaver made it off the mountain (it can happen really fast if you aren't on the ball).

This topic has stuck with me all day, because I seemed to remember reading something about this (I did a lot of prep work before doing Druid Epic - I can tell you everything you need to know about every mob, etc.,) so this rung a bell.

From the beastiary - Dark Elf Corruptor: Looks like it's a bugged mob, because you aren't alone:

"What i do if The DE Corruptor despaw i need to restart the Quest?"

"Yep... Join the fine ranks of p*ssed off people who have had this moron despawn."

"I too got caught in the de-spawning of the corruptor just the second the killing blow was hitting. Tis is an unacceptable occurrence in my book, causing me to have to restart the first part just because they decided to make the parts of the epic no longer enjoyable."

"That is bs i was killing the Dark Elf corruptor and he dispawned as right as i landed the last blow now i have to restart the epic becuase of that"

"After all that you have to do to get to this point in the epic, it stinks that the Corruptor despawns if you do not kill him fast enough or if the Reavers die first. It happened to me."

"Well, I got to be one of the unlucky ones, who this didn't work for. My 54 druid brought a 61 Sk and 65 Ranger along, so plenty of firepower.

However, the reavers aggroed them forst, so I snared the Corruptor, and started kiting him. Once one of the reavers was down, the Sk jumped on Corruptor. AS SOON AS THE SECOND REAVER DIED, CORRUPTOR DESPAWNED.

They did not reach the druids, had not been up very long, and the corruptor was engaged in a fight when he despawned."

"Man, exact same thing happened to me... Absolute BS that he despawns mid-fight! Not on ly do verant give rangers a pair of epic swords instead of a bow... but they ***** up something as simple as a single mob fight?"

I guess I got real lucky when I was doing mine...

Sorry friend, looks like you just got screwed by SOE...

*cough* Again, you are assuming it's a bug and not just the way the script works. I've been helping people do druid and ranger epics for 4+ years. It's always been well known that you kite/offtank the reavers and kill the corrupter first. I've never seen anyone successfuly do it any other way.

If he always despawns as soon as both reavers are dead, then it's not a bug. It's part of the event. Something you need to figure out and overcome. Not complain that it's bugged because you did it wrong.

If you do not have the force to contend with all the DE's make sure you attack and kill the corruptor first and loot it (before druids are killed). If the druids die after well, that's their own fault for being weak. Just wait until Athele (one hour real time iirc) respawns to do the turn-in.

Just to clarify...the Corruptor didn't despawn when the second reaver fell. Both were dead, including pets, before the corruptor died. As the corruptor fell, he despawned when he hit the ground.

The post above....2 I think, states that he would despawn as soon as the second Reaver died.

End result, I goofed it up. If you read the words of the quest from Athele, it only states to kill them....speaks nothing of an order. To me, that is a BUG. Either put some clue in the conversation with Athele, or give the loot once all are dead and the Druids are safe.

BUG, BUG, BUG. end of story.

And to all the peeps that stated that this was and will continue to be a problem due to a GM awarding my petition, I fail to see your logic. 5 years with home grown GM's, I have petitioned many times from items dissappearing from inventory, Items poofing on trades and so on.....and not one time did I ever get an item back. These 2 specific events were easily traceable for a GM....but nothing was ever retrieved.

So I have to ask myself, Do I think we are in dire peril because they are outsorcing GM jobs to non familiar EQ peeps?.....While it is unfortunate for the GM's that got cut, I think not given my experiences. These are actually trying to help, if they made an error in awarding my petition...at least it is on the good side....and not the bad from a customer service standpoint. I for one, applaud the decision....even if it was someone else given the screwy circumstances surrounding this quest.

Huh? That's not necessarily a bug just because the event description is vague. All epic descriptions are vague (or at least they used to be). The whole point was to figure out what you were supposed to do. There's a reason there are sites dedicated to nothing but run throughs of quests. And even those are notoriously sketchy on details.

None of the NPCs in any of the epic quests tell you *how* to defeat opponents or events. They just tell you to do them. Every single post on the subject in the quest description says to kill the corruptor first. You killed him last, and it didn't work. How is that a bug? That's just the way the event works.

I tend to agree with you about the GMs. I haven't noticed any reduction of capability. In your case, they gave you the item you needed back (not like it's that hard to repeat that section of the quest anyway, but still). No harm, no foul I say. Just do the quest again and make sure to kill the Corruptor first and you'll be fine...
