I am a 28 yr old male and I have been playing EQ for 4 years and I think it rocks. I am definately NOT your normal player(not that its a bad thing). I date beautiful women, have a fat job and was a collegant athlete.

The problem with this industry and the rest of role playing games are the crazy's out there that ruin the image for the rest of us. I mean, dressing up is one thing, but doing it on a daily basis, etc....you have a problem and are discrediting the hobbie. When you hear something in the news about a coupke of teenage boys fashoning some long swords and cutting up their neighbors, this industry and the people who love to play it take a huge hit...the public immediately associates crazy's or disfunctionals with it, and thus shuns it.

So what do we do? Act normal, PLEASE! I like to dress up in costumes as much as the next guy/girl, I just do it on HALLOWEEN!!! Try coming out while the sun is up at least 3 days a week. Dress in something other than black (and take a shower), for the love of God, PLEASE!!! And don't fashoion weapons, pretending to be Gandalf, Elminster or <place your favorite fantasy/Sci-Fi character here> and cut up your neighbors. If everyone decides to do this and works on the image of fantasy/Sci-Fi hobbies, people will begin to accept it and will stop rolling their eyes when you talk about it.

Well, I have said enough.....

I am kinda insulted ;) What do you think a normal player is? I have dated beautiful women, have a great job, a beautiful wife and kids, played rugby in college and mens club level till a couple of years ago. I wish I could find that link to that page that has players real life photos on it, lots of normal looking and a few very attracive people on it. I think you have a misconception as to who all the people in our little online world are. The best I could do on short notice is this link to
Ianstorm.com Founded by avid online gamer current Philadelphia Philles Cacher Todd Pratt. We are not a bunch of socially inept trolls living in our mother's attics.

As a 'non-beautiful' person I take exception to the concept that being beautiful or dating beautiful people makes someone normal. As a medieval re-enactor I take exception to confining my dressing up in silly clothes to a single pagan holiday each year.
To each his own joy. If it makes someone happy, leave them be and let them do it. It doesn't hurt anyone if some geek gets his jollies dressing like Gandalf on his day off from the bank.
Who cares what the "image" they are projecting is. They pay their money, just like everyone else to play. Leave them alone and quit being such a "lookist."

HMMMMMM.
Morbidwarrior I think you might be a tad bit misinformed. EQ has a HUGE number of people playing it. To make an over generalized statement is just incorrect. I agree nobody should be slashing up their neighbors, but let's face it in our world you usually only hear about the extremes. I am 30 years old, college educated(B.S. in Communications), have outside hobbies(other than EQ), and I love sun shine although not always crazy about the heat. Oh and I just got out of the shower. So to sum it up....Hasty generalizations are bad. Being openminded and living your own life good.

Though it sounds like cross-dressing amuses you (You like to dress up as much as the next girl?) Acting normal is entirely too boring.

In four years of gaming, if you haven't noticed by now, I'll catch you up.. ALOT of people play Everquest.

from time to time a couple of friends and I used to dress up as grannies (Grannies day). then we hit town. guess how easy it was for us to chat up beautiful chics Smiley: tongue

so, either you troll go away, or grow up, and learn to respect other people. or do you really think you can edumicate thousands of players around the world? hehehehehe

EDIT: the OP is too funny though. after reading again, look at his sig. I mean, the statement "I am not the typical EQ player" and then having tons of alts?

Czae, is that you?
