Hey'all.

Currently I have 256MB RAM......but I also want the new expansions....

Do I go for EverQuest: Platinum or another 256MB Ram....??
Also, wheres a good place for a lvl 16 warr to train up...? Apart from Kurns, PC, Oasis and I only have Classic and Kunark.

Also, I only have 1.21GB on my hard drive, so I'm not sure whether I will be able to handle Platinum...

Hello and welcome to EQ! Get the expansions. That's just my take, because that will give you incentive to get the additional RAM anyway (if you need it) Smiley: lol

Here's some tech mumbo jumbo too;

EQ recommends 512 RAM w/ a 128 Graphics card.

I used a P4 processor with 512 and no graphics card no problem.

AMD is MUCH better for multitasking (Sound / Graphics / Windows / Multiple programs / etc ) especially if you have no graphics / sound card (no integrated don't count.. Smiley: boozing)

Even still at 256 RAM on low graphics settings you will still have some issues in the graphics / lagg department. Don't let it get you down, even top notch computers get lagg. The trick is keeping your farclip plane turned low and when around alot of people / mobs / spells graphics, just look at the ground to avoid lagg.

As far as grouping, I suggest a real challenge; try finding a group in the Estate of Unrest (reached through Butcherblock through Dagnor's Cauldron) You can group with toons up to level 25, so make sure you find some folks above level 20 to help you survive in there for a few levels. Patience is the key, there are people in EQ that will help you out, but they aren't online all the time.. Hehe

PS~ What server are you on?

Warriors are the foundation of teaching casters why not to cast too soon Smiley: banghead

Thanks. What is the required space on a hard drive for Platinum? Each expansion takes like 450MB...so it must be like 3GB...but on the SOE Website it says u only need like 1.5GB...Wtf....

Does anyone own Plat? Can you give me some more specific support...? SOE is making it all so complicated...

I see the 1.21 gb as a problem.

With my old pc, I did not have enough room for virtual memory, making EQ very hard to run. If you fill up all your space, your virtual memory will not have enough room and your pc will not be as effecient. I also am not sure but I think 1.21 gb is enough room to load Platinum, but can't check since I have more expansions than that.

mine says 3.4 gb on the sony folder, thats with all current expansions. Of course winxp is also another 1.6 gb. Threre are lots of other needed software so you are going to need a bigger boat, er hard drive. I see them going for as low as $44 for an 80 gb hd on a quick look at amazon.com. Ram is also cheap depending on the type of ram you take. Judgeing by the size of your HD I expect its an older type of ram and goes for very little.

My system is a 900 megahertz with 640 RAM (Old System) with a 40G hard drive. I use a 128 mb graphics card. I have all expansions and have no trouble playing. I also use a dial up service 56k modem.

Note...I do get laggy in PoK when MGB's are happening but otherwise very manageable. DSP (Downshroud Peaks) is also Laggy for me but not to the point I can't keep up. All other zones I have hunted in are fine.

OK, the way I see it, there are 2 ways to go.

1. Buy a bigger hard drive, and install it as a slave. You can get relatively large HD's for under $100 now. I've seen as big as 150 gig for $99. (Very huge sale...)

2. Delete every other game on your current HD. The reasoning behind this is, EQ will have you so addicted that you wont ever have a desire to play the others anyway. :)

EQ:Plat doesn't cost a lot. If you can aford ram, than you could probably aford EQ:Plat too. If not, I would go with plat. If you can't play past kunark, you're going to have a hell of a hard time as a warrior.

Hard drive space and Memory are most important, If you have enough memory you can compensate for a lower grahics card by increaseing your Graphics Aperture size in your computer Bios to help reduce some vidio lag. Default is usually 32/64meg I have increased my to 256 which seems to help, seen much better reponse in PoK with my second machine 933mhz PIII and a 128 meg Graphics Card
