I have been told the Jester debuffs players, and thus is unwelcome in groups and raids. I have had a group saved by him when we had adds, and the cleric was oom and she cast the Jester and got filled with mana. Just curious, I solo with him sometimes, never got a debuff. I have never had him do anything bad to me, except the bread thing. He always seems to heal me or fill my mana. So what other bad things does he do?

It's not a directly negative thing. He won't actually debuff you or DoT or nuke you or anything. His tendency to grow people can be a bad thing though, especially on a raid. The same goes for the illusions. It can be very confusing for the crowd control to suddenly see a mob in the middle of the raid.

The bread/drink summoning can be a problem too. Suddenly having something on your cursor while you're trying to target someone or something can be a huge problem that could easily cause a wipe.

Ok then I can see on raids. But I was told he did debuff, was that person full of it?

/edit Tank was mad at me for casting him in a LDoN after getting a rez and no mana or other buffs, figured he couldn't hurt and he didn't hurt me. Guess I will ask from now on.

He is irritating. I think that is the main reason people do not want him around. He causes undesirable spam, turns people into Mobs which makes targeting and cc a nightmare. supersizes the Rogue, shrinks the MT, puts stuff on your cursor and pretty much the novelty has just worn off. He's like the kid brother your friends didn't want you to bring along as a kid, not a significant detriment, just an annoyance.

He's fun when the work is done. But some friends called him once while we were still in a LDoN, and it was a disaster. We barely made it in time.

I don't like the little guy, although he can be quite entertaining. I wish I could let my pet attack him... (can I???).

Edit: Btw, he never debuffed anybody in our group, and we called him several times now...

I think he can be a fun little side-show to break up the monotony of a long XP-grind session.

I only use him when in PoK and waiting/hanging out. The illusions and spam doesn't seem to bother anyone.

I wish they'd add more stuff that he says/does though. After 10 minutes or so, those statements like;

"How's the weather up there," and "I once was an entertainer for Bristlebane"... gets very old.

The food summoning is cool, but I can see how it would be annoying on a raid.

I summon him with my new Warrior. He's a twink so with Buffs he has 2k hp at level 17. I have been soloing in PC with him and I wait til I get to around 10% health. After a few short mins I usually see "Need some Help there big guy?" and Bam! Full heath.

i have used this guy every Ldon i go its just funny the things he does and every group i was with allways loved him we all had a good time with this guy free heals mana food drink jokes even if they are a lil dumb the growing bigger thing does suck tho
#10 Jun 20 2005 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
actually what does suck is that if he enlarges you, you stay that way until you doe or zone. unlike the recent change to the morphinmg that only lasts 10 mins

and be careful if you summon him near a city. if he turns you into a race that isnt liked...... SPLAT!!!!!!!

That's a good point. In some areas ANY illusion is KOS; also, since you don't have to be grouped with the jester's owner to get an illusion cast on you, there might be some potential for griefing there.

Thanks for answers everyone. I will just ask first to make sure someone doesn't get bent out of shape (but I will now be able to deny the debuff thing, and I can shrink people back if he enlarges). I will continue to solo with him, he heals so reliably, it would be a shame to waste him, besides my druid was a griffon for a while the other day, that was very interesting (can you sneak up on an enemy, just one of the guys, go about your business). I really haven't used him super often, but every time a group is in trouble someone seems to cast him, and he always seems to help.

Sorry, I must be dense. How do you get the jester? I was on a LDON with someone who had him the other night, and then a raid last night. However, I see both a cleric and a druid summoned him.

Thanks

The jester doesn't actually debuff anyone, but the bread and wine he summons is occasionally poisoned, with a very minor HP or mana drain.

sjames is right, it's the reward for your third year. Anyone actually tried to attack the jester?

Yep, the very first time I summoned him I tried to attack him. It's just like trying to attack a pet though, nothing happens.

I play on Monday nights with both of my sons and one of their girlfriends. We take turns summoning our Jester. We love the little darling. The only thing we find irritating is when he enlarges you. We almost always have a class that can shrink though. For those times that we don't we carry Army Ant or Ant potion. He tells lame jokes, summons bread or wine that can be good or poisoned. Depending on which it can increase health or mana regen or slow it. He can do complete heals or complete mana restorations.

He casts illusions on you depending on the zone you are in. I think the most annoying thing he has ever turned any of us into was the giant bats. I belive they have put a time limit on theillusions now but I could be mistaken. We have never used him in anything other than dungeon like zones like LDoNs or Tower of Frozen Shadow so he isn't affecting anyone else.

We never know what he will turn us into so it's kind of fun to see wheat he will do next. My favorite was when he turned me into one of those vampires that wears the g-string. Oh, he does shrink you also. I have never seen him debuff.

Allthough we thoroughly enjoy the little bugger I would be upset if someone pulled him out at a RAID.

Happy EQing.

Well. While the bristlebane jester is kind of a mixed blessing, I can say that the steadfast servant is absolutely great! Buffs I've seen him cast are swift like the wind and "steadfast breath", which seems to be roughly equivalent to a KEI (but shorter duration). He also casts a significant Heal over time spell (can't remember what it's called, but a 600 per tick heal). In some exp group situations, you can literally use him as your sole source of healing, and he adds significantly even to tougher fights.

Using the servant approximately doubles my solo kill rate for the 30 minutes he's up. Of course, as a paladin, that still leaves me somewhere around 1/3rd the solo kill rate of the average chanter my level, but it's something...

I only got 3 rewards but I really like them, including the jester. He is just awesome to solo with (except I would concede in a dungeon if you could not shrink, would be unpleasant). Seldom have to cast heal when he is up. I wish the mana restoration came as often as the heals.

The first time the steadfast servant was cast in a group, we all tried to attack it, thought it was an add, and everybody recovering from a previous over pull, and the person who cast it probably fell off his chair laughing at us. It resisted slow. Smiley: lol It's a nice fighter for sure.

This is true. The last time he turned me into a human male (I am normally a high-elf female) it was only for a short period of time before I poofed back to my normal self.

The other problem with his illusions is that they can knock you off your horse. :p

Funnily enough, when I started my rogue I moved Samira to a second account so I could play them together. As a result, my rogue has more rewards than my older druid. It all works out - she tends to need them more.

Much H8 for Jester.
#26 Jun 22 2005 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
I had the same thing happen, Samira. My druid has one reward because of a transfer to a second account, the chars. on the original account have six.

I agree with the general opinion on the Jester though. He's ok to solo with, or put in a group (provided there are no objections), but that's about it. I usually don't bring him out if I'm outdoors and on a horse though..hate getting knocked off it :) .
