Dannkurt posted a farewell message on the FV boards, saying SoE 'had no use' for him any more.

Cool. Pretty soon, when sending a petition, you will be answered by a Pakistani.

Smiley: disappointed

So they raise the monthly fee and then reduce staff/quality?

Sounds like CFOs are making CIO calls. Welcome to the new corporate America, where no one cares about the future, it's "lets make as much money as we can right now. Odds are I won't even be with this company when the repercussions of these decisions come back."

Sure you can outsource IT for awhile, but in 5 years when these countries realize they are doing a $7.00/hr job for $0.25/hr, and 45 rupees doesn't buy a whole lot outside of the local goatshop, or one nukes the other, no one back here is going to be competent enough to pick up the pieces.

It's not an SOE issue, its a corporate culture issue. Just like H1B was all the rage for awhile, and now damn near every piece of software is full of halfassed garbage code and needs to be patched weekly.

Firing all the american gm's just seems to a very ominous sign. I hope the new people are familiar with the game enough to be able to do the essential functions of the job. Somehow I think today is a good day for cheaters.

"I am 10 asians who don't speak english", or something like that. It was probably a quote from somewhere, but this story makes me imagine that when you contact a GM you'll be talking to someone like itemstore (remember him/them?).

Ah yes, the A. S. sig. Came from a line from mulamen about someone's KEI Bot.

Just to bore the bejeebers out of everyone hehe...:

mulamen had that quote about a KEI Bot that never spoke, meaning it was controlled by 5 asians who did not speak English.

Dot is well known for his mistells. Guildspeak goes to group and vice versa routinely. One time, after the 15th mistell with the Audes, Dotlbe, exasperated said "Don't blame me, I'm 5 Asians who don't speak English"

To which the whole guild was ROFL. I think it was mulamen who put it in his AS sig though.

stuck in chat one night after test server files were allowed to be downloaded by live server players, it was obvious the gm there had no clue. everything was a hot key.
there were around 91 rooms opened to cope and all he was saying was you need to re-run the patcher.

he did not get it that 91 rooms full of people were there because we had ran the patcher.

I'm not racist (at least I make a concerted and honest effort not to be) but I'm sick to F'ing death of calling a customer service line, and getting someone 10,000 miles away who can often barely speak english. I know, many of these people are educated and are intelligent human beings. But why should I have to spend an enormous amount of effort asking them to repeat what they said as I try to sift through an accent that's right out of a Monty Python skit about Indian shopkeepers? I see that more and more, people are getting very very tired of this outsourcing of cust. service jobs, and I really hope that it blows up in thier faces at some point in the near future. However, as the almighty $ rules and there is no justice, it will only likely get worse.

I have been playing for 5+ years and can honestly say....who cares. Back before Luclin came out, there were all kinds of bugs that made things "poof" from your characters or when doing trades. I remember trying to enlist the help of GM's and NEVER got anywhere. I don't mean to sound like a *&^%, but to me in over 50ish petitions, NOT ONE was ever fixed or did anything about it. I took my lumps and re-quested what I had lost and moved on .....to this day, I have never petitioned since......ALL THE GM's in my experiences are USELESS !!! Albeit American, Japanesse, Hatian, Mexican, Towel Head or whatever.....They are all USELESS !!!

Oh, did I mention USELESS ??

Ok flame away....but it won't change my view of them...

Maybe this overseas stuff is a fad.

For many things that might seem reasonable, GMs do appear useless.

However on several occasions I was glad one was around (not lately though).

/petition special names or surnames for some weird reason that get rejected by the name filter.

Had to petition to get N'D in my Dark Elf's surname.
Had to petition: 'Wolfspirit', 'Eazy' (got them).

Once while getting KSed in East Karanas by level 50s (I was level 24). I finally got fed up after asking them not to KS me several times. GM poofed in and told them to leave.

Petitioned someone who was constantly training our group in High Pass, GM did respond, but after 3 hours, offending party had left hehe..

Several times stuck under the world and needed a port out (glad THAT never happens anymore Smiley: wink)

I agree...in all my time playing EQ the only use of a GM is to either sit in POK handing out Cookies and milk or to run a (STUPID) halfling high dive competition in Rivervale!

I can live without em!

ive had tons of problems with gm's.

the only time they have ever helped me was when i had gotten stuck in an elevator in pok and took 20k damage, they got my corpse and gave me my exp back.

but other than that, they never helped me when i was hacked, never helped me with any name changes, never helped me with any tech problems other than ( try restarting your computer lmao or something very stupid like that ).

i wanted the surname Jet'Li , but could'nt even get that, lol they tick me off bad.

and doing away with the american gm's ? god now nothing is going to get done. i mean they wont even be able to understand english, and their little translation book will tell them crap.

not to be racist, but the gm's stink bad enough as it is, even when they are american's that can understand what we are telling them. so i dont think we need any pakistani gm's working for $.10 /hr so that soe can save....about..... .005% of their yearly income.

I gave an item to a pet once, and had my petition answered and resolved in less than 5 minutes. Also got cookies and milk from someone and so I tipped her 50pp. She didn't accept it, and when I did a /who (her name) found out she was a guide. I guess overall my experiences with GM's have been positive. I haven't had and issue since they've been outscourced, but after hearing all the horror stories, I'm not too confidant.

Oh yeah, and the outscourcing to Arkansas? The Pakistani would be better educated and easierto understand
