For my Pally to combine some things for cultural armor, I need to crush a Windstone. It says with mortar and pestal and triv 1.
I looked at Skills and said Thief only skill.
Is it possible for me to still crush or perhaps my Ranger or Enchanter.
Know no Thiefs and have no interest of going any further, just want to do some crushing of stone.

You should be able to attempt the combine, but only Rogues will be able to raise the skill past 0.
Same goes with tinkering...another race can attempt the combine, but only Gnomes can raise the skill past 0.
With a trivial of 1 you should have only half a problem making what you need.

Just because something has a trivial does not mean there is a chance of failure. I belive crushing windstones is no-fail for every class. Combining spider silks in a sewing kit has a trivial of 15, but you will never fail.
Also, some of those combines have been changed from mortar and pestle to mixing bowl (celestial essence for example IIRC).
