Don't discount the shaman either. Of course, Troll is the best way to go, worship Innorok, whatever, so you can eventually get the clicky snare.
Shaman are great fun, what I like best about my shaman, is that you don't have to med. Starting in your 40's with canni 3, you can do more different things at a time than any other class. ie Your mana regen is better than any other class, and thus you can be doing more things.
For instance, I always duo with my ranger, my shaman is always slowing, healing, and depending on the content, may even have mana to throw in a DoT per mob as well. While the other time is spent canni'ing, and even taking some swings with his weapon. On top of all this you have a pet that does pretty decent DPS at my level.
I think it comes down to if you want to group or solo more. If you like grouping more, then go with the shaman. If you want to solo, I would go with the necro. Not to say that a shaman cannot solo, nor am I saying that a Necro is no good in groups.
I have played with 2 shaman in a group many times, and it is easy enough to split up all the things that shaman can do. One can heal, debuff, and DoT. While the other slows, DoT's and buffs. Between your DoT's and your pet, you can do quite decent DPS into your 60's.
One other thing, shaman are excellent in small groups, their verstility allow them to fill many roles, and allow a group of 2 or 3 to be very successful. Also, the shaman truely shines when the fight last longer. His DoT's, will go full time, you will get the most out of the slow, and it gives him time to canni. The hardest thing for a shaman is to fit in all of his spells, it is pretty rare to be not casting something.
