Im loooking for opinions on this subject, the best duo when boxing..

Rules:
1. The 2 classes have to be same race
2. Race choices are: Barbarians, Gnome, Half-Elf, Halfling, High Elf, Iksar, Ogre, Wood Elf and Vah shir.
3. Starting from Zero, no twinking no PP to start with.

My own bids are:

Iksar: Shaman and Shadowknight.. Easy and ok
or
High Elf: Magician and Enchanter.. Tough to box, but good.

Yea, I would do this one. Might want to get some feedback on armor for Iksar SK's though. Just to make sure that SOE hasn't broken them at some level. If you are not a big tradeskiller, then just go with Trolls. Iksars get forage, which is very handy for their alchemy.

Why do you want both races to be the same?

If it were me, I would go with the Iksar Shaman, and a Ogre SK.

Starting city means almost nothing.

Shammy/Necro would work too. Iksars.

At equal level, I bet my Ranger/Shammy could hunt in harder zones than this duo, outdoor anyway.

1) Shaman Pally
1) Shaman Mage(tied for first)
3) Beast Druid
4) Beast cleric
5) Shaman Necro

if you trio my favorite trio is shaman/mage or pally/Wizard

1. not posible*
2. not posible*
3. not posible*
4. not posible*
5. Can be done with Iksar Race, but i think SK/Shaman better duo, than Necro/Shaman. Harder too, as both classes need to work during fight, while SK almost just have to stand and tank, keep agro and can use dot to pull with. Of course necro has undead slow, which would be a benefit, if you hunt undead areas.

*still ok suggestions.. but breaks rules :p

I think the best duo would be a Gnome Cleric and Gnome Necromancer. Not only will it be a bit unique from the race choice but it will do very well. The necromancer can do almost as much damage as an entire group sometimes, with the only drawback being losing life/not having as much life as other classes. The cleric can rez, and buff so that the pet/necro can tank. They can also both fear creatures, and if the creature is undead it's even better as the necro gets an undead slow and the cleric gets an undead DoT. They both are great at pulling too, with pacify and feign death. I have actually tried this only with dark elves (the cleric gets a snare/DoT necklace) and I am liking it.

I know a great duo in our guild who are Iksar Shadowknight & Iksar Monk. They are a real couple & work together like one. The SK tanks while the monk pulls and does dps. Where is the healing? Both can self heal to some degree, lifetap for the SK and Mend for the monk. They have different abilities ... except FD. The SK will not FD unless everyone else in the group is safe. With a monk, he has already gone FD at first sign of trouble. They wear different classes of armour, so can use more of what they find.

However, when the Iksar monk was recently admired, he said the Iksar XP penalty really hurts in the higher levels. I have known these 2 from the 20s up to I think 59 atm. The roleplay they bring to the guild is great too - I am allowed to call them allies, but not friends, and they call my high elf wizard 'soft skin.' In the later levels, you need Virtue, a real healer in group and preferably KEI for the SK.

For me, another downside of the SK and Monk duo would be no transport. Unlike say a bard/druid wood elf combo. (edit) Or a High Elf or Erudite Paladin +Mage/Wizard?

Whatever you choose, I hope you have great fun with.

SK/Monk.. maybe a good duo for two players, but i think it will be hard to box, like
High Elf: Chanter/Mage
High Elf: Wizard/Mage

These two have been going through my mind as best duo, wizard adds more dmg and ports..
Enchanter adds haste, mindcrack, slow and mezz. When thinking about it, i actually think this would be best duo.. but hard to play.

Ive also been thinking about changing iksar sk/shaman to ogre sk/shaman, mainly due to the exp penalty. This duo i still think is the easiest one, and also good when starting from nothing..

About trio:
I know one that trio's Beast, chanter and cleric.. should be awesome, but thats another thread :p

You still have the exp penalty with the ogre duo but don't forget they cannot be stunned from the front. Trust me I play a Vah Shir Shaman and duo with an Ogre SK. When we have our "normal"(and I use the term loosely) we also have a ranger and another Shaman (ogre). The Ogre shaman can solo much more than I can due to him not getting stunned from the front. Just a thought to try to help you along. Personally because I went from 46 to 60 duoing with the above-mentioned SK, I think the shaman/sk combo rock.

I put a lot of thought into this, but I had to go with one as a chanter as that was my main at the time. I settled on Pling a cleric up mainly for the stuns. Once he's high enough it'll make close quarter charming so much easyier for my enc. The rez, buffs, heals and what not will be just gravey on top of it all.

Gotten some ideas about the Duo.. i think i try Shaman/Sk.

Now would it be a good idea to solo the shaman to lvl 8 first, to get defence and weapon skills a bit up and then use shaman to minimize down time, when SK is catching up to lvl 8 afterwards ?

the best idea would be to wait until after wednesday so you can actually skill up those things ;p

I think you'll be happy with that duo. healer/melee always work best. The iksar xp penalty really isnt that bad, and the other benefits of the race make up for it.

Not exactly best, but Beastlord/Ranger is the one I'm working on right now. It's a combo you don't see much and with the increased Beastlords slows and heals it "should" work ok.

Sticking with the rules you set forth, Shaman/SK is an excellent combo. So, I'll agree.

all i do is duo played 1 account for 2 years and lvled very slow lotsa down time bought a second account and computer been 2 boxin for 3 years but don't have as much playtime as before but now have 14 toons over or close to 50 with a few 60's.

If i could do all over again would use Human SK and Barbarian shaman because u don't get burned by the exp penalty , Why SK and Shaman easy
SK great tank good aggro, they can snare with Darkness died alot with my warr/ shaman cuz of runners, they can fd pull as well as fear kite in the mid lvls.

Shaman first off and very important SLOW, decent healing, good dots, tons of buffs, regen, canni (so less downtime) shaman pets are very tough its almost like 3 boxing,

If you want same race i'd go for Troll for the natural regen/stun immunity

Iksar are fun but armor is kinda a pain with em SK can't wear plate / yes ther's racial stuff they can use but lets face it easier to be able to just get the standard stuff.

Currently still 2 box warr / sham cuz i got friends to stop the runners LOL

I haven't boxed near as much as Reinman has, but for me, I like to have one who can basically just sit there, while the other gets most of the 'action'.

So this would mean having a cleric or shaman as the 'sitter'.

The other could be just about anything with DPS. I prefer a plate wearer for this role. One that can hold aggro too.

I would then like to have more utility in the second than warrior brings. Nothing against a warrior, that class would work fine too.

Shaman/SK
Iksar (regen but xp penalty)
Ogre (no stunning in front)
Troll (regen)

Shaman/War
Vah Shir
Barbarian

Cleric/SK
Gnome (This is what I have for 2-box, both gnomes are Bertox)

With the other races you won't have the SK snares which are helpful, but:

Cleric/Pally
Halfling
Half-Elf
High Elf
Gnome

Not sure if I would want to box 2 wood elf classes.

Shaman/Monk Iksar of course

I've done this but Troll/Human. Works very well up to 50, much beyond I couldn't say.
