The Anti-camp radius does exist, believe it or not. It's not used very often, but it is on at least one spawn that I know of.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is anti camp radius? I can speculate, but I may be wrong.

I would think that it stops the mob from popping if you are within this radius, close?

You would be correct, Martant. According to EQ Urban Legend, if you were too close to the spawn spot of a named mob, the named wouldn't pop, only place holders. Obviously that's largely been proven false.

As I recall from an old, old thread where a Dev or former Dev talked about EQ Urban Legends, the radius was tested back in early beta but abandoned. Which obviously isn't to say they can't still use the code. Personally I have reason to suspect that they've attached it to my characters and it follows me around.

basically, if you are within a certain distance of a named spawn point, it won't spawn.

just found it interesting that a dev confirmed that the coding is in game, and is actually used on at least one mob.

Maybe why my Monk never got Raster of Guk to pop? Always sitting on the spawn spot?

Reverse-reverse anti-camp:
Spent more than 2 hours killing PHs for the coerced penkeeper in Dalnirs (with a non-monk). Never popped. Brought my monk in for ONE go-round. Penkeeper popped the VERY NEXT SPAWN cycle!

Some (nevermind that man behind the curtain) Dev on-line watching?

Dev1: Hey, got some monk in LGuk camping Raster. Let's see how patient he is...
Dev2: Yea, pulling switch on anti-camp for LGuk...
72 mins later...
Dev1: Hey guy is still there, whadja know?
Dev2: Yeah time for me to hit the road, whadja think? leave switch on or go back to random?
Dev1: Huh?...
Dev2: Oh wait, some guy is camping Faelin Bloodbriar in GFay...
Dev1: Really? Flip the orc-pawn switch, I love watching them get ganked...
72 mins later...
Dev2: Man I really gotta go, see you tomorrow...
Dev1: Ok, cya...
2 days later
Dev1: Oh hey that monk finally left LGuk
Dev2: Oops never did flip switch back to random...there..
Dev1: Hey Raster popped and some Ranger killed him, no monks in zone, bummer...

Yeah. Back in the day, people used to be sure that this was in effect on the key mobs in Befallen. You'd get people who'd insist that everyone had to leave the room, then wait for the spawn to appear before returning in order to get the named to pop.

This sort of stuff was debunked pretty early since all it really takes is one instance of you deciding to afk in the room for a sandwitch, coming back and seeing the keymob had spawned for you to realize that it doesn't work that way.

It's very interesting to hear a dev say that they do have the code working in the game on at least one spawn. Makes things a bit more difficult really. It'll also bring back a whole bunch of people who insist that it applies to "this camp", whether it does or not. Dunno if it's a good idea to let that bit of info out into the wild...

Classic stuff DoT!

Wonder if they got a switch for drops--the mob pops, but never drops what it is you're looking for?

I know for a fact - I have plenty of personal observation to back me up - that there is code in the game that checks to see if you need a particular mob. If so, the spawn rate drops to 5% of normal. The same subroutine may be used for loot items on mobs, too. Smiley: banghead

I think there are some weird things attached to loot drops. There is a dark elf in High Keep that drops a clawed knuckle ring with extended enchancement II. It dropped three times in four kills for my druid. By then his faction was KOS there. Killed her about a dozen times each in three different sessions and got nothing since then.

I asked alot of people (mostly older paladins hunting there for coins) if they had seen it drop recently and everyone I talked to thought it didn't drop anymore (some of them claimed to have killed her a hundred times and never saw it).

Brought in my chanter, killed the elf, ring dropped on the first try. That brought my faction to KOS there and it didn't drop at all ever again.

What does it all mean? I have no idea. But, I could probably draw some completely speculative conclusions.

It does exist in powar.

Note: "Jergamund the Slaver" will not spawn at any given spawn point unless you are away from it (you can't sit at a spawn point). Note also that he is a belly-caster, so to land spells on him, players have to be very close to him. (quoted from https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=7490 ) . also witnessed by me a few times. no where else do I know of this mechanic
