#1 Oct 20 2004 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
Well im sick of the class topics >_> so i'll start a new one =p

Personally my favorite zones are

Raid: Time, Qvic, Vex thal(ya I'm one of those wierd ones taht actually liked this zone), SSRA(hey come on beating on snakes was fun =p), and the MPG trials we have done so far(THey are very interesting I can't wait get further into omens going to be some kool encounters I think).

XP/general: Fire, KT, Velks(back in the day), cyrstal caverns(back in the day), earth

Least favorite zones

Raid: Earth(Way to long), Uqua(the DEVIL ZONE!!!), and Air(i don't know why here i jsut found air boring).

XP/general: BoT, WoS, Vxed/tipt.....Did i mention I hated BoT and WoS with a passion..Oh ya and BoT!!!!!

Favorite Zone: Ruins of Old Sebilis.

I've been fought in zones from Classic to Omens and I still find Sebilis to be the best constructed dungeon in the game. Massive with lots of separate camps, great RvR (for its intended levels and era), excellent lore and atmosphere, a bad-*** boss mob at the end and it's just plain fun as all hell.

Least Favorite: Emerald Jungle

Besides a couple quest NPCs and Severilous there's nothing named here, no decent loot off anything, the "jungle floor" texture looks cheesy and it's basicly a big annoying waste of a zone. I'm sure someone will defend it (someone always does) but it's still the zone I'm least enthused about ever going to.

qvic loot is nice but the zone blows.

I donno =/ same reasons I liked VT i think just was a fun zone(I had like a rush when I first zoned into it just b/c of all the work in THE DEVIL ZONE so it was jsut exciting =).

I should add like a fun Farm/Mess around one too i guess

For farming and messing around I like seb and droga though Im not a fan of nurga(I duoed a ****ton out of nurga when i was in my 50s with a mage friend and got really sick of the zone).

As for early lvling....well I hated it Kurns was decently fun but only b/c thats where i went when I first started playing....Then PC was well PC and overthere was horribly boring =( then it was mostly LDoNs till i could go to the planes =/

Splitpaw Lair - It's a fun zone, and was pretty challenging back before it became trivial. People avoided it like the plague because CR's could be nasty (especially if your tank got charmed). Pretty good loot for the level (used to be at least). The difficulty of the dungeon scales well from entrance to the Ishva also.

BoT - While BoT is not the most challenging zone, and anyone of the appropriate level can go there, not just the "elitists", it can be exciting as a puller, especially if you are pulling in wind. It's crowded and your group has to stay close to you, so if you ***** up, there's not a lot of room to fix things.

The Hole (Ruins of Old Paineel) - Similar to splitpaw, except higher level. There's a decent variety of mob types with different weaknesses/strengths too, so you need to pay closer attention. Loot kinda sucks, unless you can get to the bottom, but then it turns into a raid if you're of appropriate level for the zone.

The ones I don't like:

Emerald jungle - I feel the exact same as Jophiel on this one. It blows. It's just a bit of wasted time on my way to TT.

Lake of Ill Omen - It's a waste of space in my opinion. I know some people liked it, but I hated it. I think a lot people hunted there only because of the experience after they gave it a big ZEM, but hated the zone, like the modern day PC.

Favorite farming zones:

Trakanon's Teeth - In design and visually, it's the same as EJ, so that sucks, but the hunting is much better. I discovered just how easy it can be to farm the forager cycle with my bard when he was only level 45 or so, and it was very nice. It's not that difficult to get an ikky mask or ikky BP per night (for a bard at least). The bad part about it is it's terrible experience... but then it wouldn't be farming, would it?

Jagged Pine Forest (poachers) - They drop pelts and skins galore and are easy as hell (again, for a bard). The named can drop some ok stuff, mostly no drop, but the Partisan of Stampede is pretty neat, and one day I WILL get that freakin half elf mask (camped it every day for 3-8 hours for 2 weeks...).

Hehe i like splitpaw I never really played there much until the fabled though(I messed around some but never very far into it when I was a lower lvl(like I said I made a mad rush to 65...though I did find some time to explore some). I had one hell of a time getting to ishva when the fabled thingy was going on =p

The reason I don't like BoT is just that it's an open to all zone(sorry if I sound to elitist here this is just how i feel) same reason i hate the OOW zones for exp.....Any lvl 63(or 69 for RS) can go there they could have just ebayed a char and played for the first time and go there(now I know this is only like 1% if that of the time but still). It's just you can get too many ppl that have no idea what they are doing. I have been trained(gotta love evac) waaaay to many times by groups that can't pull or handle an add or two.....Same for WoS.

Hehe, I know it always seems like I'm argueing with you Elorian. It's not personal, I just seem to disagree with you a lot.

Have you ever checked out what kinds of toons are being sold on places like ebay (I have purely out of curiosity, then snorted and laughed at how much people would pay for a toon)? Many of those toons being sold are flagged. People make a business out of that, and a flagged toon is worth more then a non-flagged toon. Maybe I'm just being cynical though.

Leveled three twinks there through the appropriate levels. Got one half elf mask for my rogue and one stampede rapier for laughs (I link it as Ranger 1.5 sometimes). The OTHER good thing about the poachers, aside from the wealth of pelts, is the faction that makes buying cooking and other tradeskill supplies so cheap from the vendors there.

Hmm, think we did this awhile ago...but will go again :).

Favorites:
Tower of Frozen Shadow - always been among the top for me
Kael - the gnomeyness of me loves killing those overgrown ogres
BoT - Towers Raids are fun.
Dranik's Hollows - Decent Exp and loot and not all that boring
PoTorment - it's just different
HoH - Preferred grouping area...less drama than BoT. Has a really nice feel to it too.
PoHate(old and new) - dunno why really, I should have worn this out with my 20+ raids/groupings for Enc epic...but still love the place

Others: The Hole, PoFear, PoGrowth, PoM (new...never went to the old), ToV/HoT, Siren's Grotto, Grieg's End, Charasis (though I rarely go there...), Seb, City of Mist,...more I'm sure

Least:
Emerald Jungle - Yep
Ssra - now, I know this is a wonderful looking zone...and the loot can be worth it...and most people like it...but I hate it. A lot.
Umbral Plains - dunno why, never liked it
PoSky - again, don't know why, but it just doesn't interest me
WoS - never had much luck here, groups have sucked, mobs have sucked, lag has sucked, etc

Most others I am just indifferent to...

I never had a problem with the potamaids. Just don't go in the water. The poachers are right beside the water, and I used to sit on the bank, like a foot from the water, waiting for repops. Never got aggro. If you're there TO hunt potamaids though, I could see how it would suck. (I said my BARD never got aggro, but my ranger on the other hand... I thought it would be funny to try and shoot a turtle).

I was trying to twink out a chanter(well my brother and I...we got a 3rd account to split so we could box) our goal was a lvl 1 chanter with maxed FT...no buyables =p(why buy when you can quest and kill easy mobs for ft items)...
The queen was our target...I tried soloing her at first...ya so once I agroed one Ihad like 7+ on me hitting me for 50-100ish....This was a while back when I first started raiding..I had decent equipment mostly seru/SSRA/deep/VT gear and I got owned b/c I couldn't cast b/c i was underwater and every time I got hit I was pushed back like a mile =(...Went back with my brother a shaman(he was liek 61-62 at the time I forget) we invis and when we got the the see invis ones we droped invis he started casting his pet and BAM Ariel and all of her little firends started pounding on us...exedus=the win!!

I haven't been back since =p I would liek to though(this time I/we'll just fight our way through to avoid back adds) I still need 5 more FT for the chanter(we haven't had much time to lvl twinks due to raiding and school and RL).

Used to solo the Queen all the time on my bard. Piece of cake.

Killed her maybe seven or ten times before staff dropped for my mage. Killed her a couple times since for guildies but no staff drop yet. More circlets, cloaks and those Cancel Magic sticks than you can shake a giant anaconda at, though.

Favorite Zones:

Unrest: One of the most unique zones in the game. Lots of levels can earn decent exp and the loot is not all that bad either.

Old Seb: The finest dungeon zone in the game. What is especially nice is that its no longer very crowded. I usually have my pick of camps.

Eastern Wastes: The North part of the zone is a haven for quad kiters. There are a bazillion (give or take) places to hunt. The giant fort is pretty darn cool too.

Least Favorite Zones:

Paudal Caverns: Where all the kiddies go to PL their toons. I must admit, the exp is great, and I usually take my toons there for at least a few levels. However, any zone that requires that I turn off my /ooc and /shout to keep my sanitiy is not what the game is about, for me anyway.

Kithcor Forest: That place still scares me, especially at night.

The Grey: Long trek. Can be a nasty corpse recovery, especially for a newer player.

My favorite zone is probably Katta Castellum. It is a wonderfully visually immersive zone. The art designer for that zone really outdid themselves.

My least favorite has got to be freeport. No matter how many times I go there I still end up lost in a maze of laughably poor textures.

simply adds to the impression that you have not, and will not see about 95% of the game world.

Gun and run players are often regarded negatively by long time players. Get used to it.

That's usually the point where people tell you to go back to Diablo 2. Yanari is telling the truth though. Many of the long time players feel like the whole basis if the game is cheapened by run 'n gunners. Of course, you pay 13 bucks per account, just like the rest of us, so you can play the game however you see fit and no one can tell you otherwise. Many people though, especially around here, are going to think much less of your opinions regarding character development, zone exploration, and many other subjects.

I know you said you're in school, so probably don't know a whole lot about the military (unless you're a brat), but it's kind of like when the new butterbar joins the platoon. He might get paid more then the platoon Sergeant and "technically" be responsible, but if the butterbar says something dumb and wrong due to inexperience, the Plt Sgt is going to set his junior Marines (or soldiers, airmen, sailors, whatever) straight, regardless of rank (albeit a little more tactfully then we usually are here).

I have seen well over 90% of the zones in this game(in fact I have seen more than most ever will..only zones I can think of that I have not seen are Tacvi, txevu Anguish and veeshan's Peak ) ....Though I did not see them early on unless I was passing though to another zone). I came to this game for one reason really to raid(I love the idea of getting so many ppl togather and working for a single goal of offing a mob), the quests and tradeskills are jsut a time sink IMHO(which is what makes this game great...some ppl really get off on tradeskilling and questing others like LDoNing all day long and others like me enjoy raiding...) so that is what I do...I judge zones based on raiding(just like some base it on soloablity or farming...).

As for the long time players regarding that negativly I could really care less...

Temple of Veeshan will always have a special place in my heart. God, I spent so much time there, and there's just something satisfying about killing dragons.

Inktu'ta - Some of the events there are just incredibly fun. The game of tag with the deathtouch mobs was really inspired, and is easily one of my favorite events.

Plane of Time - Except for the trash at the beginning of phase 5, phases 4/5/6 were always fun for me. Loved fighting so many gods in rapid succession.

Tacvi - Despite the bad press it's gotten, the lack of trash combined with some really interesting events makes this one of the raid zones I really enjoyed. I still intend to go back and beat this zone, even if the loot would rot. I just think it's a fun zone.

Muramite Proving Grounds(the raids) - Some of the most entertaining things ever created. The Trial of Corruption is possibly the funniest raid ever, and no raid tests individual awareness like the Trial of Foresight does.

Sebilis - The finest dungeon ever made.

Citadel of Anguish - So far, at least. It might be mostly the excitement of it being so new, but I love how this zone looks so far, and the boss fights all look interesting and challenging.

Least Favorites:

Plane of Sky - My God, this zone was tedious. Every so often, someone will ask me to go up to Plane of Sky for whatever reason. And unless I'm truly needed, I still refuse.

Vex Thal - One of the most boring raid experiences ever.

Plane of Earth - So many horrible events. Not just the Rathe Council - I hated Arbitor too, and most of the others I was none too fond of.

Ssra - boring events, and emperor key camping robbed me of any desire to ever go here again.

Uqua - I hate doing this zone, or at least I did when we went back for backflagging. Even when it wasn't terribly hard, the zone was still a tremendous hassle.
