Tank = low dps. You can have SK as tank to have snare and ok dps but that's another topic.

Replace the 2nd tank with a dps and everything is good.

My group includes a ranger, so snare is covered.

Pally, Warrior, Ranger, Cleric, Shaman, Bard

This is already good. Good group toughness, pretty much everyone can survive getting beat on for a while, which is nice, because it gives melees time to peel. This group could do almost anything any other group can do.

Lots of toughness, CC, Lots of healing, slowing, decent DPS, a puller, I can't see anything missing.

Yep pretty good.

A refinement would be to drop the Pally in favour of a Shadow Knight and drop the Ranger for a Rogue. This would probably be a higher overall DPS group but retain the same utility and toughness.

Dead boring though, any group without a Ranger or Druid in it is no fun at all Smiley: smile

Unless I'm grossly mistaken (and I know I'm not), the tank is not in the group to provide DPS. Their primary, and best contribution is to keep the mob's attention while the rest of the group does their thing (provide dps, crowd control and heals). Their DPS isn't their only tool for keeping mobs on them.

Someone mentioned bringing in the beastlord (over a magician, it seemed) for DPS. I think beastlord DPS is a little behind a magician's, but what they DO provide that magicians don't is buffing, slowing, and in a pinch, additional tanking ability.

I'm not a believer in "best group" combinations. It's too limiting. I've been in groups that were textbook perfect that sucked, and I've been in groups that should have been a disaster but turned out to be amazing.

I often play with the same 4 people, plus whoever. Warrior, cleric, me (magician) and a beastlord. We fill in the last 2 slots with whoever is available. Things usually work out just fine.

I was putting together a group for a Draniks Hollow adventure on the weekend, sent a tell to a Shadow Knight LFG in Abysmal Sea, he promptly began giving me the third degree about the group line up. Said he wouldn't come if we didn't get a cleric.

/shrug

We spent a happy couple of hours exping and farming with a warrior, shaman, druid, ranger and enchanter. Last time I looked the SK was still sitting in Abysmal Sea /shrug.

Yanauri, I was responding to this, I realize you can improve on this group, slightly, but it would be competetive, and may actually do better in some situations than any other group I can think of. Anyway see below to what I was disagreeing to. If Pally is tanking then warrior would take on DPS role, and would fill it adequatetly, plus you would have yourself one hell of an offtank.

Not bad. An alternative -

Swap the Ranger out for a Druid. (- DPS, + healing)
Swap the Shaman out for a Beastlord. (- healing, +DPS)

Overall you may actually *gain* DPS having (DRU+BST) instead of (SHM+RNG), along with ports, which are always rather nice. However, you're replacing 2 chain classes with 2 leather, so you're losing overall toughness. You also lose shammy debuffs (mainly Malo line).

Simply an alternative if you highly value ports.
Of course, if you really needed ports, you could swap Druid for Ranger...he could play a 1/2 wizzy capable of pet charming.

ty now search working. i tried many times many ways and always got all lvls and all classes. mabe web site error at the time, well a few times the past 2 months, back in march i had the searches with no problems. but seems to be working now thanks.

oh and for the guy asking about my high lvl shammy, and why i don't know the rolls of all classes, the shammy and cleric i now have lvl 65's are borrowed account from friend gone to play wow beta. i can use the accounts when ever i need as i play graveyard shifts, and he would normaly play afternoons when i sleep.

we plan on doing same thing with EQ2 and WOW when released, i'll buy eq2 he'll buy wow, we plan to let eachother have at least one charcter slot per game. so we can try them both out for a few months and see what we prefer.

i just got an email forom horizons asking me to retry the game again. i loaded it up today with a free 7 day trial, as my main account i gave away last april, and the servers are down. no notice or reason yet. i hope the game improved from last time, i'll give it a try, eq on days off, horizons on work days.,
whay not i'm already paying for 5 eq accounts and 5 asheron's call account. one more can't kil me :-) , well 4 asherons call account i'm not currently paying for, just waiting for expansion. but the one main account i have there, just got one free lvl due to rollback of server in augest, i was very happy as i'm lvl 130 in that game, it's like being lvl 65, and going to lvl 66 here in eq.

i just wish i have a stay at home job. or get my legs cut off. it'll be more fun playing all these games all the time. like ige and those guys making money from loosesers who don't want to work for their plat. yes i have powere lvling and good equipment on loan, and i did buy plat once. but all 20 of my characters i started at lvl 1 and have most at lvl 15 now. i spent about 12-16 hrs on each character in the past 3 months, plus tradeskill time. god a lot of time on that. to make some items, and money for other ones.

i have to say, when i first played eq when the first expansion came out, i was already into asheron's call for 5 months, i played eq for 1 week and gave up the first 10 lvl s were way to hard and boring, to get money for items, noway. back to AC before free month was up, then 3.5 yrs after getting bord with AC i tryed eq again for a month, liked it a bit more but the money issue was still bad, after a month 3 chacters lvl 10 one with blacksmith 110, and only chain armor, and basic weaopons i quit again , back to AC for 6 months, then called it quits for AC tried horizons liked the ideas of it but only 2 months till i left that, and tried lineage 2, hated that after 2 weeks pvp all the time, bad, tried DOAC loved the game but had to wait till lvl 20 for good action, so i came back to EQ and started a druid and bought 500k plat from ige. yes i admit it, bad move i am a looser too, but i kept leaving eq cus of money so i thought i'd wast real money on it, and see. and now 6 months later. i spend no less then 20 hrs a week play. i used money to get one set of melee equipment and one set of magic-user equipment the rest went to spells, and trade skills, oh and 6 horses 30k each, plus 1 100k horse. i guess that be 200k on horses, 200k on equipment, 100 k on trade skills. most of the quipment is useable by all, and no lvl requirments, not the best of the best but good till lvl 40 mainly.
i know you all hate me now. but i love the game now, and plan on playing for years. i already bought 1 yr subscription to 3 of the accounts the 3 i own. to get the expansion pack, plus i got omens for all.
please don't hate me. i'm just one of those guys who get to frustated with the low lvl's and no money and always wants to quit.

I like Tarv's group the more I think about it. Plus he has my class, in his ideal group, so I can play as well.

Another good group possibility would be something like this.

1.Warrior-
2.Cleric-
3.Enchanter-
4.Rogue-
5.Druid or Wizard-
6.If Druid go Mage, if Wizard go Ranger.

Drawback, I cannot play with you then. Hmm time to make a Cleric or Enchanter.

I see your point. Of course it all depends on what the group is fighting. There are many times when an extra plate class in the group makes life easier. I just don't usually think of them in terms of DPS.

My personal preference is for maximum DPS. Being a magician, I got into the midset of "the longer it's alive, the longer I'm in danger".

We have the same grp of friends everynight..
Pally (obvious)
Cleric (with maxxed melee skills)
Chanter (me,CC and haste)
Shaman (slows and buffs)
Ranger (pulls, snares,awesome bow crits.)
6th spot who really cares...usually swaps out with zerker, druid, necro or another pally (lower level)

We own almost every zone we head to..nps.

It's worth pointing out that even really weird combos can work well - a few I've had while fighting in City of Mist over the last few weeks are:

1. me (Ranger)
2. Warrior
3. Warrior
4. Enchanter
5. Cleric
6. Bard

In that one, one warrior was armed for max DPS and the chanter was nuking as often as not. (you laugh - but a 550HP ZOT! really hurts without getting too much aggro). Never mind that if things got ugly, we had 2 extra offtanks while the chanter and bard un-gungled things.

1. Ranger
2. Enchanter
3. Enchanter
4. Wizard
5. Mage
6. Shaman

Gimpy healing, but then, nothing lasted very long. I needed maybe one GHeal per fight. Maybe. Four or five nukes at once, plus my DPS, nothing survived long.

1. Ranger
2. Wizard
3. Wizard
4. Mage
5. Paladin
6. Cleric

This one was nuke city, too. Our crowd control method was kinda gimp - me and the cleric would root-park things while the wizzies and mage AoE'd the electric heck out of 'em.

And I once did an LDoN with four shadowknights, myself and a cleric. That one was fun too :-)

berserker, ranger, monk, mage.

Honestly I'm not sure where you get the idea that Mage is a least favored class. My main is a Mage and people send me tells to join their group. Hmm maybe it's just your server.

Don't be a thread-necro buddy.

This is a thread from 2004, none of the info is relevant now.
