but you didn't do anything to present them as a problem to the EQ community

What problem? You get idio....Moro.... New... *ahem* people to purchase the outdated guides and sit in zones farming stuff that can't be sold in the baz for 1cp.

Sorry, but it seems to me that anymore these people buy a game then download/purchase the cheats/hacks for them before the shrinkwrap is off. No one want's to play the game, they just want to get to the end of it.

If the problem with the community is that people are camping/farming/selling outdated crap, then I think I'm checking out of that community. I think the problem is that I grouped with a 65 war last week that couldn't /con a mob. Perhaps they could update the guides to include things like that?

That sux, funny as hell but still sux.

It's sad that these kind of players can even exist. Experience is more than just that little yellow/blue bar that moves up. Experience is playing the game and learning things along the way.

An ebay-ed toon is detrimental to the learning process of the game. You start out with high stats, hp, mana, items, weapons, etc. Tons of zones are green (You won't know where the high end zones are to get to them at first anyways). You don't know how to play your class or even use common game sense that's learned in the first 5-20 lvls of your first toon.

You think your uber because you can destroy pretty much anything in sight. You finally get invited to a group in an appropriate zone of your lvl. First thing that happens? You get the group wiped cuz you suck ***.

Anyone stupid enough to buy those guides are deserved to waste their money.

It is just like watching informerical selling "Ultimate Unoffical Guide to Make $25,000/week without Doing Anything!", if anyone calls in to buy those guides they are idiots.

I agree with above, but we don't need their spam hoggin up bandwidth on a site we like. Bad enough I need to dump 12 viagra emails daily from my email, I shouldn't have to wade through the equivelant here.

most, if not all guides for sale, are 100% worthless.

I don't disagree with the concept of selling a well-written EQ guide, I'm pretty sure that if I put the time in I could produce one worth buying. I know a lot of things that aren't exactly publicly accessible information, and some things that while findable by anyone, are obscure, you would have to go intentionally looking for them.

that being said, I've read a lot of the guides on the market (not bought :P,) and I can't condone anyone buying them, in their current state.

Here you kiddies: My personal plat guide, for FREE. There are probably better ways to go about this, and anyone is welcome to post their ideas. This is simply what worked for me thus far. The purpose of this post? To maybe save someone from purchasing something that is useless, outdated, and can be had for free. I do not endorse playing the game this way, rather create a race/character that you like and ROLE PLAY it. However, if you really want to make some plat you can try these ideas.

Step 1: Create a character that can solo easily. One that forages is a major bonus for reasons to be described later. I recommend an Ikky Bst or Ikky Necro.

Step 2: create an autoforage key and link it to your move-forward key. I don't recall the steps, but if you do a web search for autoforage/autoinventory I think you can find it. What this does is forage stuff every time you move forward and sticks it in your bag. Some of that stuff sells really well. Try foraging in Gfay and EK. Morning dew and Tea Leaves sell for 30PP each on my server. Periodically you will have to go into your bags and dump out the trash. Before you destroy something make sure it is trash. Example: I used to give away Sand Verbena flowers to the Dark Elf hotties until I realized that they are worth 100PP each on my server. Doh! Also, I used to eat the Aviak Eggs I foraged. Umm they sell for 5PP each to bakers.

Step 3: Leveling up in the right zones will generate money as you gain XP. Here are some suggestions:

Lev 1-9 Crushbone. Sell the belts (5PP each on Tribunal)
Lev 10-20 Kurn's Tower Bone Chips (10PP per stack).
Lev 20-25 EK (spider silks 3PP each and foraged tea leaves 30PP)

Now around lev 20-25 the money will be coming in better as long as you find buyers for your silks. When you get your first 3K in the bank start bazaar farming (see below).

Lev 25-35 Group up in DSP and kill tribals for acrylia. It is an uncommon drop, but each brick sells for 20-50PP depending on size. By the time you hit level 35 you should have several thousand from the acrylia

Lev 35-43 Crystal Caverns. Farm the miners for Velium. More common than Acrylia and sells better.

OR

Rathe Mountains. Hill giants drop finesteel weapons (3-6PP each to NPC merchants) and 0-60PP each.

Lev 43-50 Dulak's Harbor (Boats) or Crystal Caverns (Geonid Camp). Sell the gem drops to NPC merchants for nice cash. Turn off your autoforage in Dulak's becuase it is only junk. Dulak's pirates drop harpoons that sell for 5PP to NPC merchants.

Post 50+ your groups will now likely get item drops that sell well in the bazaar to mid level players. Post 62, the item drop will be even better.

Step 4: Once you have 3K or so, you can start bazaar farming: Get to know the popular items in the bazaar (soulscream belt, velium weapons, etc.) Know the prices, and when you see something really cheap, snatch it up and mark the price up to the regular market price. When you only have 3K your choices will be smaller, and you may have to look for tradeskill items that are being sold below the market price. If you keep reinvesting your profits your plat will grow. Remember that you need to keep reinvesting some of your money.

Step 5: Remember to have fun.

Hope this saves someone from wasting $19.95

Do you mean, are they still running now, or 10 years and 1 month ago, when the last message in this thread was posted?

I guess a Google search didn't exist 10 years ago :)

LOL
