Well I'm going to have a little rant/vent...

And it's about these so called Plat/Leveling/Secrets to EverQuest guides. Of late I've noticed that there has been a few new people on this forum that do nothing but advertise their levelling/plat guide every chance they can.
frankly I'd wish they would go away and crawl back under the rock they came from and stop trying to rip players, especially newer players off.

Now listen closely: (especially you newer EQ players)
These guides are 99% of the time out dated and a rip off.

You'll end up paying US$19.95 for info that is either a year or two old, that are exploits that have been fixed or will get you banned.

Any correct and up to date info these guides might actually contain, can be found for FREE, just by spending a little time, doing some research on the net. So you want to level up a certain class, well there is a pretty good chance that there is several sites and message boards dedicated to that class and that they will have a FREE section about levelling.

So am I full of crap?

Am I lying about these guides?

Well let the people who peddle these guides here and at other message boards, come forward and prove me wrong!

Please don't waste your money by buying these Pay-for-View guides.

I wish that the Mods would come down hard on these Guide Sellers.... ban them all.

Edit: Corrected my post, for Twiz's peace of mind.

I find it rather ironic that you shun the guide-sellers, but not the guides themselves.

Hypocrite much?

Because the people making and selling the guides are the problem...

So the guides themselves are not the problem? If idiots stopped coming onto the forums and advertising their guides, eBayers and dumbasses would still look them up and use them. It doesn't eliminate the problem, it just puts it out of sight.

Seriously, is this so hard to comprehend?

I think the fact that people get ripped off if they're buying crap on e-bay isn't so much the problem as is the fact that people who come here might be taken in.

Right. But either way I don't see why you jumped on him, he didn't say guides were ok or single out the sellers. Most of his post were about how crappy the guide was, not about how crappy the people selling them are. It just seemed odd how you immediately got pissed at him over his positive message.

I have a problem with the Sellers and the guides that they sell.
As I said in my post, most are out dated, use exploits that have been fixed already or will get you banned. Can't put it more clearer than that.

Maybe you should read the post a little better next time Twit... sorry I mean Twiz.

Yeah twiz, its pretty damn obvious he's making comments about both the guides and the sellers....

Anyways - I had, at one time when I first started, purchased one of the guides for 24.95.

Want to know what it told me?

1. It gave me a list of repeatable quests (very poorly written) that I could make some money with. None of the quests were post luclin - showing the age of the guide. Marvel at the bone chip quest in Kaladim - *woot*

2. The guide told me how to get my Jewelcrafting up to 170-something, because you could stand in East Common Lands and sell them to players (yeah - this part was pre-luclin). This guide would have been at least 1/2 useful if it wasn't for the fact you were supposed to start with 10,000 pp and was the same information I could get on EQTraders.com

3. Had a list of mobs that droped items that I could sell in the bazaar. The information was way outdated. Did you know you could get 100 plat for a pair of blackened alloy boots!! They've been rotting on my trader at 10pp. It even had mobs listed that no longer spawn. And suggested you sit in East Commonlands to sell (again, shoing the date of the list - no Pok)

4. Had the maps from EQ atlas - well they weren't "offically" the maps - but they looked suspiciously like them.

Thats pretty much it. Everything was available to me through Allakhazam, EQAtlas, and EQTraders if I did a little research.

Nice, Devilwind. I have to tell you though, that lately it has become popular to sell in the tunnel again. Why at least once a week I hear somebody slinging their wares.

Maybe you should be more clear in your posts. All I see you doing in the OP is declaring the guides outdated and full of misinformation. You don't, at any point in the OP, present them as a problem.

This passage especially says that you don't disagree with the content of the guides, just the people that are peddling them.

Writing comprehension is your friend!

i think that wires got crossed.....

He was complaining about the peddling of "UBER LEET DOOD PLAT SECRETS AND LEVELS" (an example title merely) being peddled.

1) The fact that you pay money for these "secrets".

2) These "secrets" are actually open to all for free ALREADY. That many "secrets" might get you BANNED, or are for exploits already fixed.

It is a broadside comment aimed directly at what the guides PURPORTEDLY sell, and the SELLERS themselves...

Was as clear as day to me!

Just ignore Twizited(whatever?). From what I've seen he does nothing but jump on peoples post, or offer pathetic sarcastic comments.(Wonder why he has 2000+ posts?) Must be his way of getting his rocks off.

I for one think that your post was great and hopefully newer players that were thinking of buying a guide will now be persuaded not to. Twiz would do good to take a lesson from you and figure out how to post helpful posts for once.

i think that twiz may have either purchased or is in fact a seller of these so called "guides". and is upset. i see no way of getting confused here. these guides are a rip-off, plain and simple. and in my opinion the people who sell them are just as lame as the "guides" them selves.

Ask anyone in my guild, and they'll tell you that you're dead wrong. I completely agree with the OP that the sellers of these guides are annoying. However, I don't feel that he expressed any bad sentiments for the guides themselves besides the fact that they are old news.

I don't expect you to understand, as this level of thinking requires at least an 8th grade education. Just trust me on this one.

Part of the problem is that the information not only can be found for free, but is terribly outdated.

Refer to my post the guide I had bought - no information post-luclin was added.

I don't know about you Twiz, but if I read a post that said that the Guides were out dated and full of misinformation, I don't need someone to then post that, that could and most likely is a problem with said Guides.

I find it pretty easy to figure out, that the Guides would be a problem and a bad idea to buy, myself. Then again, when I post, I'm guessing that most of the people who read and post here at Alla's are of the same average or higher intelligence level, as myself and don't need it spelt out for them...

Guess I was wrong Twiz... My bad.<shrug>

Someone just posted a link that say will offer info on how to level up as much as twice as fast, but the link takes you to a site that is selling Power Leveling/ Platinum guides. He is right though as far as the guides and the people that sell them go. There is nothing I can not find out through premimum service here, and a few other sites, all for 1/2 the cost of a guide that is too often incorrect or is misleading in the cost of items it claims you can sell. That and your giving these guys money that you could use for something in the real world.. Saving up for a new case for me to mod..

/sigh

You just can't seem to comprehend. I think that you did a good job discrediting the guides, but you didn't do anything to present them as a problem to the EQ community. That was what everyone else extrapolated from your post, yet there was nothing in you post that said that, implicitly or otherwise.

Even if they were accurate and not horribly outdated and/or relating to exploits that have already been fixed, who cares? They wouldn't be any more 'spoiler'-ish than this site is, for one, and if people were selling a guide with a working exploit I can guarentee it would be fixed within a week or two; does anyone remember the C5 (er... I think, been a while) Arrow exploit, where they would sell for significantly more than they cost to make? When people macroed it they were making something like 2.5k-3.5k profit per hour with no effort per account they had running it.

Long story short, it leaked a bit, someone got the bright idea of trying to sell the information on the exploit to other people, Sony got wind, out goes the exploit. It's frankly less harmful to the EQ economy if the word gets out fast and people report it to Sony- a short boom followed by some bannings fixes a lot of problems, while some professionals generating tons of money and then selling it has a more detrimental effect in the long run.

<nudge>

Because there are yet again, some 1 post Spammers trying to link to their "Plat selling" sites.

We seem to get them in cycles, here at the EQ forum. They're quiet for a while, then blam! back they come for another try.

Could we please stop bickering about who meant what or didn't say enough? Let's just ban these posers who hawk the <<insert derogative adjective here>> plat/leveling guides or flame them into submission.

Can we agree on that?

I was never tempted to even consider PAYING money for these guides since I got more than enough info here or a few other sites for FREE.

By the way, doesn't this site come down on people trying to advertise (without paying?). Since I have premium I do not see the banner ads so does Alla have any questionable links to these sites?

Even so with premium I should not have to see ANY adds from ALla or posers hawking guides.
