Question about Re-installationFollow

I'm having some problems logging in. I already posted in the Tech forum so I won't get into all of it again here. What I want a quick answer to though is......

If I just delete my everquest folder from my C drive, and then reinstall the program with my disks what kind of problems will that create? I'm thinking that there would not really be any other than having to reinstall maps and maybe my custom UI again. My charecters and account are saved on the EQ servers right? I won't have to put in a CD key just to load up the disks right? Oh. And I'll have a pretty long patch to download the 1st time I log on.

Anyway, if you want pop over to the Tech forum and see if you can figure out my specific problem. If not, post here if you think of anything I have't about a reinstallation.

Thanks

Correct.

UIs, UI layouts, friends lists, etc. are stored locally.
Account-activations and CD-key usages are a 1-time thing and tied to the account, which is of course kept on the server.

I would recommend, if possible, actually using the Everquest Uninstall routine to remove EQ....this will ensure you get rid of any Everquest registry entries, which may be causing your problems.

This is, of course, assuming EQ HAS an uninstall routine..if not, just delete the whole directory.

Hope this helps.

besides the entries for Uninstall and the Start menu, EQ1 doesn't use the registry.

Standard process to fix things:

Delete Userdata directory (journal area, can get corrupt and cause fun crashes)

Delete Logs directory

Delete the 2 .opt files (binary)

Delete eqclient.ini and eqhardware.ini

Repatch with full file check under Advanced.

If specific characters only have the problem, then

Delete *.charname_servername.ini

There are 2 log files in the EQ root dir that can help find problems, EQ_missing_files.log and everquest.log

By the way, delete is really "move to elsewhere so you can copy them back later if you want"
