Hey sorry to bother yall, pretty sure you might have heard this question and im just setting myself up for a beat down.

I saw download at fileplanet for EQ. Scars of Velious and RoK for 9.99$ with 60 free days of gameplay and i was wondering for a game like EQ that is already so established and with a sequel looming on the horizon should i give it a try?

Ive played through 3 other MMO's but ive always wanted to try EQ since its the foundation so to speak and pretty much ever MMO you play you run into EQ veterans.

I also realize that at this point its probably hard to find low level groups and certain zones might be empty as hell. I dunno, any feed back on whether i should give it a try or not or the usual line you give to friends that are interested.

If you head out to SoE's site, you can download EQ with Kunark and Velious for free with a 30 day trial subscription. You will then be able to start on the Morden Rasp server. This is new server and there are plenty of low level toons to party with.

The economy on MR is starting to balance out as well, so hopefully soon that will be all situated.

If you start up send me a tell in game!

TILT
Go to http://www.everquestlive.com
Go to the Free 30 Day offer thingie
Download, for free, the original EQ game, Ruins of Kunark and Velious expansions
Play for thirty days on Morden Rasp or Maelin Starpyre, the two servers allowable for the 30 Day trial (which means you'll see lots of other newbies)
Decide if you like it.

Free to you, no muss no fuss.

Is it still just MR for the 30 Day'ers? I see Maelin has the "newbie pref." title on it now and thought they could get on there. Oh well, if not then just play on Morden Rasp anyway. If it's good enough for Aude Sapere, it's good enough for you!

You have 3 months before EQ2 is supposed to ship and about the same amount of time before WoW may go live. If you don't try EQ1 before then, you might never have time to do it again.

If the money isn't an issue, get the Platinum edition (includes all expansions) for $30 and play for a few months. If money is an issue, you should be able to download the EQ trilogy for FREE and try it for a month. What do you have to lose?

If you start your toon on Morden Rasp, you will have newbies galore to play with, but even if you start on another server you will find plenty of alts and newbs to make a decent group when you need it. Plus alts have the advantage of knowing the game and can guide you through any issues you might have.

Better yet, you could start on MR with a RL friend. Then it will be possible to mock them for their stupid purple robe.

Done and done guys, thanks for the advice. I didn't even remember about 30 day free trial.

Also, the Platinum package includes 30 days trial if you start a new account with it, and it isn't limited to one server.

Heh, I see some of the Aude folks from time to time and wonder who's who.

I know, I could look and see, but I intentionally don't. That would ruin the fun.

I certainly agree that being a genuine (or kinda) new player on older servers can be a bit wearying. While it is one thing to occasionally play an alt on the same server as your higher character its another to start as an "only child" on a far server full of primarily 65s.

Not many folk in the low areas, mad power leveling in the classic hot zones, and only a moderate attitude of kindness. No one is horrible, but most assume your twinked and buffed by others.

Its not all negative.. help yourself to the mobs you want.. just pick a soloable class, thats all.

I have had lots of driveby buffings and free gifts from higher levels on those servers where I have started naked newbies. I would say my experience with higher levels has been on the average much more pleasant than unpleasant.
