Weapons DelayFollow

Hi all!

Wondering about the weapons delay, is it counted in sec/10 i.e is the dealy on a wep that says 23, 2.3 secs?

So when i buy a new wep, disregarding addisional stats like +STR and so on, and want to know if it will be a good damage dealer, all i have to do is take damage and devided it with the delay number (converted from sec/10 to secs) to get DPS?

Thanks in advance!

Don't worry about calculating DPS, since that's going to vary depending on your weapon skill, the defense of the mob, damage bonuses from stats and/or level, etc. etc.

The basic calculation is to just divide the damage of the weapon by the delay to get a weapon ratio. The higher the ratio, the better (usually).

for instance, you have a 44/40 2hs and a 32/30 2hs.
The 44/40 has a 1.1 ratio, while the 32/30 is 1.06, making
the 44/40 a slightly better weapon (BASE damage).

Then, of course, you have to start looking at things such as damage bonuses for high-delay 2handers, or swings-per-second for fast 1handers with a damage bonus (that may make up or actually surpass damage from a weapon with a superior ratio)...then there are procs (but don't generally count on procs doing much of your total damage), etc. etc.

Regarding the delay numbers, you are correct. Unhasted, a weapon with a delay of 23 will swing (on average) once every 2.3 seconds (not counting double attack of course).

Ratio is what is king for dps as described by emperorjeremy above.

There is a fomula out there somewhere to compare raw, possible, theoretical DPS from the stats of the weapons, but (of course) I forgot it. It would only be useful to find the relative dps between different weapons or weapon set ups anyway. Your actual dps would vary from this depending on buffs (haste, atk buffs, etc), skill level, character level, and mob stats (Level, AC, Mitigation, etc)

As others have said, a whole bunch of stuff is going to affect your damage. Pay attention to the haste issue too. If you are a melee class you will want to work toward getting haste gear (Silver Chitin handwraps, Black Silk Sash or better).

If the weapon is going in your offhand, you will need your Dual Wield skill to move up (if it isnt). You can also enjoy the haste buffs from the Shaman or Chanter in your group, or a haste song from your Bard.

You can also benefit from attack boosts. This is a multiplyer on your weapon damage (don't know the formula though). Some items have attack boosts on them (saw a Rogue piercing weapon the other day like that). Bards, Shaman and Rangers all get attack buffs they can cast. Strength I( belive affects your attack rating.

Not count on procs? Well, procs fire off your DEX rating. Shamans in their 50s get the ability with IoS to get you up to or close to your Dex cap. Even a lowly rogue with the right gear and base points will have a good dex score. You can count on a weapon going off a couple of times at least. I agree you cannot will it, and you can't say "hmm I'm 5pc but I'm gonna win because that proc will go off".
