What exactly is going on when I see the text " 'So-and-so' uses 'Whoever' as a living shield" ? What class is activating this command and in what situation is it used?

Cheers!

/agree with Darksaber

more detail...
The warrior does /shield <target>. I have a hot button for this, and I usually set it for the cleric in the group (i could do %T but then i would have to un-target a mob and then reaquire target).

It aint the greatest skill but it will mitigate damage to the shielded by 50% (50% of what would have hit them will now hit you). The cool thing that I have witnessed is that most mobs seem to "notice" this and often stop aggro on the shielded player. And getting them off your cleric is the goal anyway.

The skill only lasts a short time and has a reset time of a few minutes (I forget how many minutes), but can come in handy (especially since we warriors don't have a whole lot to do in the battle most times except whack/kick the main mob). I always watch my clerics health bar though - can be life and death.

the sheild command i beleive refreshes in 10 min i beileve havent played a warrior in so long. But it is a life saver though but sure doesnt help you being the tank getting whaled on and the cleric is getting whaled by something else( sometimes i wish clerics would just remeber they have root)

You can tell when you have a good cleric instead of spamming the group beware your cleric is getting hit. Since i have played a cleric and a warrior in the past a smart cleric would have rooted mob and move on( but root doesnt allways work since some mobs cant alter run speed but i guess thats why clerics have atone)

Just my thoughts

/shield is roughly 30 second duration, with 3 minute reuse.

It will reduce the damage taken by the /shield target by 50% and will give 75% to you. The amount of damage taken to you can be mitigated further using a shield in the offhand. No numbers on this however to really see the effect. (Just going by what it tells you).

Warriors get this ability around level 30ish, can't remember exactly as it's been awhile.

Rooting mobs in melee *can be bad (from a tank's perspective). Rooting makes the mob ignore all forms of aggro generation (while rooted) and attack whoever is closest. Of course, this can be compensated for by everyone attacking from further away from the tank, but it gets tricky. Luckily, cleric root is notoriously short lived ;). (Root also messes up any movement/positioning that the tank has to do during the fight). Of course though, if it's life or death, by all means root :).

*the use of the word "can" means that (as sense would say) it's not always true...just can be ;)

Their is a side benifit of shield which most people do not realise. Next time you use it I bet you gain agro. I had a friend say once that the skill never worked because every time he used it he would get agro ..... then I had to slap him on the head ..... that is better than the discipline itself

Starts around level 30...not exactly sure as it's been quite a while since Stubby was there.

I have never seen /shield grant me aggro directly. I still use this on a daily basis as the mob beats up the chanter or shammy* (if I fail the first taunt off, it's /shield until it repops) but have yet to pull aggro without a taunt/proc/incite/etc.

*Most of the time, aggro will stay off my clerics...it's the debuffers I gotta watch.

One fun thing I did with this...back with my Warrior.V1 (Stubby is .V3) was use shield on my opponent in a duel. Every time I hit him it said "Amerak slashes Amerak..." was amusing. (Would have been more funny if I defeated myself that way...but it wore off too soon.
