Silly question that keeps bothering meFollow

In the Plane of Knowledge, SSE of the main bank, the sidewalk goes through arches, almost like a tunnel, opening out into an area with some vendors. Stay there, and you will hear a song, presumably from a nearby tavern. Anyone know the name of that song? Anyone managed to get the lyrics? Seems like several of the stanzas end with "smiling at you" or something like that.

Yeah, it's strange. I was trying to make it out the other day, but my hearing is...less than impeccable. I don't play with the sound on much so it was the first time I heard it. I'm going to have to go listen harder.

I've listened to it a bunch of times (it's in the taverns in Katta as well... maybe other Luclin places) and finally decided that it's either scrambled or backmasked. Either way, it's nothing intelligible. Same as the various voices in the LDoN themes. You can sort of make things out but only because you're expecting to hear something intelligible and so your brain fills in "That sounds kind of like '..at you' so the rest must mean something!"

You ever read the Far Side collection where Gary Larson talks about a cartoon labelled "Cow Tools"? He drew a cow standing next to some nonsensical items and labelled the drawing "Cow tools". One of the items looked like a handsaw so readers went insane trying to figure out what the rest were because, if one was a saw, the rest must be something!

Kind of the same thing.

go to your keyboard setup and there should be a spot where you can create a "macro" I think where you just assign a hotkey to your keyboard usage as you see fit. Works great for us Rogues and working on our sence traps skill

The only intelligble thing I've been able to make out of that music comming from the tavern is the laughter.
I wish they would add some more atmosphere via sound to this game, always felt like the sound was an afterthought.

The problem is the sound is only around 10 seconds long and it loops over and over and over. I had to shut off my sound to keep from going insane while doing some brewing there.

It would make more sense if there were actual people (ok NPCs are actual anything) in the tavern. Or if you could go upstairs and see a boisterous crowd lulling about. But, no, no upstairs and a lonely Barbie Bartender making all that noise.

You also hear the song when standing and dealing with the three NPC merchants on the North side of the building. Mostly, it sounds like a German drinking song to me, but I can't quite understand the words. It also kind of reminds me of the old song *Birth Of The Blues*.

There is also a snippet of conversation before/during the song that sounds like German and includes the word *wasser*, (water)?

I had shut the song out of my consiousness because it just about drove me crazy due to the length of the loop and the shortness of the repeat, but now you have my interest piqued. I will listen again the next time I am in PoK and report back!

LOL.. well, the Katta bar is a bit more happening. The sound effect works better there.

The barbarian in PoK does have a pretty girly singing voice Smiley: grin

Yuck, kinda makes me not want to use that brew barrel anymore, with him standing right next to me being all...creepy.

Mulamen says 'Hey, c'mon... could you stop for just like... 5 minutes? I have about 300 Minotaur Hero's Brews to make and you're really distracting me.'

Also, when you're around the buildings where the "small bank" is, you can hear what sounds like someone hammering. Although I have yet to see any construction :)

this is horrible in PoK, but was of GREAT use in a visit to the LoY harbour recently. I did not know where the tavern was, and my group was running around looking for it and fighting off baduns. Suddenly one called out "over here" and when we found him, he had his ear pressed to a building... yup... the tavern sound theme! We headed 'round to the door and ..well, something started flowing like wine but it wasn't wine.

The bars in Thurgadin have some good mood music and sound going on. Even better, there is drama...one little coldain wanders into the bar drunk, they all give him a hard time and he gets chased out. It has been a while since I watched it all, but it is fun to see. There is a whole theme to the stuff going on if you just pay attention there.

Was a surprise when Velious first came out because most of the old zones had nothing like that...just people standing stiffly.

Just went back to the building and for some reason the sound is gone. All I hear is someone clearing their throat every once in a while. Can't figure out why it's not there.

EDIT: Just switched characters and the sound is there again. Weird, but now what I can hear it there's no way to make out the song. As for the conversation, it doesn't sound like german. It's probably gibberish...

The bar 'soundtrack' is only active in PoK during the night hours. I can't stand the repetition of that song so I just avoid using that merchant building at night.
