The game just over all irritated the hell out of me in 10 minutes, and the controls are just badly set.
Funny, that was my exact same feeling about FFXI when I first started it. But then I realized I was just used to EQ and actually gave FFXI a chance for me to learn the controls and how the game worked.

Of course, a month later, I was impressed by some aspects of FFXI but still felt the controls sucked *** Smiley: wink

If you do decide to play EQlive I would be sure to play on the morden Rasp server. There are alot more new people there then some of the older servers.
Also, if you can wait about 2 to 3 months you could wait for EQII from what I have read EQII's playstyle is more like FFX. As in closed encounters, lots of quests and a very different crafting system. It is in beta testing right now and should be out before the end of the year.
They also have a all access account so that you could play both for a little more then just playing one and it also gives you access to their other on line games except Star Wars Galaxy.

EQ, at least at some levels, is actually challenging. No other game that'll be created will ever have as complex or as interesting an endgame, because it's one of EQ's primary focuses and they have a huge lead in time.

Most other MMORPGs I've played recently have just been incredibly easy by comparison, and get boring really fast.

Now, your mileage may vary. What I consider challenging could easily be considered incredibly frustrating to someone else, and what I think is boring might be just right to another person.

I have not played every mmorpg...but I have played a few. Started with UO...good place to start. Learned I liked MMORPGs and learned what I did not like. EQ came along and was instantly light years beyond where every one else was or has been , imho.

I have left EQ for DOAC, SWG and yes, even Planetside. I have not tried CoH, but hear it is rather good and have not tried any of the FF games, though my kids have.

EQ's strength is it's social fabric and the way everything ties in. Even solo players tie into it. When I played DOAC and SWG I might as well have been playing Morrowinds or Dungeon Seige...very light on the social interaction. Just lots of people running around doing their thing.

I am not saying the something better will not come along, but I believe it remains to be seen. Many of my guildies jumped to FFXI and it held their attention for a while but they came back. We are talking about people playing a game for 5 years and taking 2 months out to play and get bored with another game. Happens with many of them.

Don't know if this is any help at all. Who knows, maybe the reason I do not enjoy the other games is I use EQ as the yardstick to measure them by...then again, that says something about EQ, at least my view of it. :-)

You kids really should quit EQ if you think "own" is spelled with a "p".

Have you guys checked out the clips from the EQ2 website??? Yeah, the graphics rock compared to EQ, that's for sure. But I'm not too sold on the fact that there is only 160 NPC's to "fight" and every encounter is "closed". I think EQ2 will be a great game, but they keep saying it will be the first real-world game out there. And EQ isn't? Yeah, so the NPC's don't talk...hehe. I think whoever creates a better graphics world than EQ with all of the thousands of items and NPCs like EQ will turn out a winner. Oh yeah, it would be nice if the characters in most MMORPG looked like real-life characters instead of Pokemon cut-outs. I'm sorry, I can't get into a game where every character looks like a cross-breed between Voltron and Speed Racer...lol.

IDK what your talking about here and where you got your information but not everything in the game is "closed", only certain encounters that pertain to a quest you or one of your groupmates is doing. There will definately be open hunting grounds(might I mention the combined commonlands which equal 1mile if im correct, been a while since I saw the quote.).

Now when you say "closed" you mean that no one can interfere with your fight(KSing, charming, etc.) then youd be correct. "Whats this, you say I can't take my lvl 50 templar and buff up my other box and his group and keep him alive so that they can take monsters above their level?" poor baby's. Only people who are hurt by "closed" encounters are the PLers.

The entire closed encounter deal will definately cut out some of the frustration of "whoa that guys training the entire zone""no he's just PLing".
