Tradeskills.......anyone fish?Follow

#1 Jul 26 2004 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, yeah...EQ really doesn't reward very well for tradeskills. You'd think they'd make them more interesting for people who like to explore and get away from the everyday XP grind. Anway, I'm trying to make some 1/2 way decent baking stuff and I need to fish. (Everything else requires days of foraging in the planes). I see that SOE in their efforts to encourage tradeskills in fishing, has created a Blessed Fishing Rod. (5% modified fishing skill...yippee...this helps one of every twenty casts on the average...oh boy). The various fishing flies you can make can also supply a 4% modifier. My question for all you fellow anglers out there is this: Are flies returned to you after you catch something or are they lost like bait? I can't wait to rock the fishing hole in Dulak for some tasty Sea Cucumbers again...lol.

Don't use a Blessed fishing pole.

Blessed fishing pole WILL break and that pole is for a quest.

That's the one you want. You summon a rod, then you can fish and summon ale. Easy to get-the fish you need go for less than 50pp each in bazaar, much cheaper than blessed fishing rod. And did I mention you get to summon ale.

1. Use the Brell's Tackle Box as suggested above
2. Don't really bother with the more expensive bait, its really not needed (further, my understanding has always been you only get one of the modifiers at a time anyways - such as using geerloks). Plain old foraged fishing grubs or bait works fine.

Or, if you're really lazy - about getting that baking skill up - you can buy your fish. hehe.

Course, I did that, and now I'm about ready to start working on fishing. :/

The fishing lures don't return once successful, although I must admit they are fun to make and have some cool names. I never used the geerlock or blessed rod and found once my fishing skill got past 120 my fishing-pole doesnt break that often.
I just use the cath-a-lot bait sold at npc vendors and have always been pleased with the success rate. If your fishing in dulak give the gulf of gunthak a try too, the eels, jellyfish, bay-seaweed, and gourami all have baking recipes that have stat foods that sell well in the bazaar.

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm going to give those a try- I caught about 10000 lbs of crab and tuna in the Abysmal last night with a regular rod and bait, so the Cichlids are next in the planes. Hehe, that is...unless I did along the way ;)

I read somewhere recently that they were turning certain kinds of crabs and tuna in to the Tribute Master for pretty good return.

That would have been about 1pp a lb before the nerf :(

Ugh...1pp each? Yipes...I don't know why they nerf that kind of stuff. I think it would be hilarious to see 50 people on the docks of Abysmal fishing for crab and tuna...hahaha!
