Will this line of spells hurt me or my group mates?

And I might add, that the rain line of spells WILL hurt you.
Only time these AE's will hurt teammates is if you're /duel, or pvp'd.

Only if you cast it in the presence of guards or other NPCs who might agro.
I learned this the hard way when I was a very young ranger trying out my first and only AE spell (Careless Lightning?) in the bank in Kelethin. I cast it on myself, but suddenly the guard was rushing in to defend the poor banker.

Ranged AEs (including rains) will hurt you, but PBAEs won't.
Nothing will hurt your group.

I could swear that I've been hit both by *splash* and *blow back* from the lvl 15 ranger targeted AoE - *Invoke Lightning*. It stings too!
Yes. Invoke Lightning is targeted AE will sting you if you are too close to target(s). If Magic Resist is up you may escape the brunt of it. Careless Lightning is SINGLE Target and won't hit you even if you use it point-blank. None of your AE spells will harm groupmates or passerby PCs, unless the aformentioned /duel or pvp.
