Rangers get screwed!Follow

#1 Jul 15 2004 at 8:44 AM Rating: Default
I played a ranger for 65 levels and 50 AA's. Finally when I achieved am3 and eq I figured I could solo abit with root and shoot. DENIED! This stupid game which screws rangers at every turn did it again. When rooting a mob you recieve huge negative damage mitigation. In addition you lose the standing still double damage bonus. Let me ask you, when a necro roots and dots do his dots do less damage? Same question for a druid or any other class? The bottom line is rangers are a big waste of time if you ever want to solo. EQ could do us all a favor and allow rangers to root and shoot effectively for playing an incredibly whimpy class for 65 levles.

Sarcasm my dear, sarcasm

Maybe I am just sick and tired of people whining about the Ranger class.

Hating rangers is the cool thing to do I guess. If all of you guys truly, honestly hate your class so much, why do you play it? Start something new, it's just a game.
#8 Jul 15 2004 at 9:03 AM Rating: Decent
why do you root? snare, DoT if you really want, run around backwards and keep cliching range attack.
#9 Jul 15 2004 at 9:04 AM Rating: Excellent
I wish the whiners would and leave those happy to play the class. The only real complaint any of my guilds rangers have is that we would like a little more bow damage and maybe removal of the mitigation mobs have to frontal bow strikes.

Hardly ground breaking tweaks and not worthy of the kind of whining I am currently seeing.

Wow thats one of the most missinformed statements I've ever read. You should probably try to not get most of your class information from /shout and /ooc in PoK.

wow you sure look like you know your class inside out!

Hey while your at it the ranger doesnt seem to tank all that well, hmmm, I know!, lets boost up their mitigation to be that equal to a monk or SK!.

Whats that? you still take too much damage for the hp you have? I know lets buff up your heals to be as good as a druids.

WHAT! you say you cant do EVERYTHING and not lose DPS? oh we have to fix this! lets just make your spells very short cast times why dont we. Then you could cast everything in half a second

Oh and with all this agro you get....You can DIE.

DIE.
DIE.
At least then youll stop whining.

Hey don't forget to give their arrows Backstab so that they can do damage like rogues only without all of that nasty melee range aggro.

It is just another adjustment thrown to us Rangers.

The big suprise from Dracoboars is took until level 65 to find this out. The first mob I hit in my early 50's for double damage, 110pts, I thought, Wow! Great! By the second mob, I realize, well, I get one shot off, and hopefully do not miss.

By 55, I am using snare, root, and trueshot only on very select Mobs. I use it for preventing damage to me with Mobs that hit very fast. The slower hitting, big damage mobs (150-200's) I seem to do okay with in melee, and drop in 1-3 minutes. It is the fast hitting mobs that I stay away from until trueshot recycles; yes, the fight lasts several minutes, but that allows my health to regen.

We are not a slay everything in sight class as others may be. Know the zone, map the mobs; select the fight, and have exit strategy and multiple pull strategy.

Play a 'Ranger'.

And the lesson is play it now - do not wait until level 65 with a bunch of AA's. Solo, group, explore. Find the Ranger niche, find the Ranger limits, and adjust. My toon is awesome when played as such - for me.

Yeah, I know. Rangers still get double damage on rooted mobs, but now pure casters can run and cast at the same time. Oh wait, that'll make them too much like bards, so we'll give bards FD. Hmmm, might make SK's kinda upset, so let's give them LoH to go with their HT. Uh oh, pally's are mad. How about giving them archery damage like rangers! Bah, now the rangers are complaining...

If you're accusing me of being posting this as a sockpuppet, I assure you I did not.

I'm a published writer. I am much more verbose and coherent than whoever the original poster was. Believe me...if I have an issue with something, I take the time to explain the issue, I don't just sum it up in 4 lines. Reticence has never been one of my flaws.

Besides...look at the grammar. The original post is a trainwreck where sentence structure and capitalization is concerned.

If I have one truly telling grammatical flaw, it's long, wordy sentences (the original posters' were short and choppy,) lots of parenthetical comments (like this one) and a frustrating, recently acquired habit of leaving apostrophes out of contractions and possessives (this is a direct result of EQ...I tend to hit the <ENTER> button when trying to type ' and end up sending my tells prematurely, so I got into the habit of skipping the apostrophe. Now I catch myself doing it frequently in other places.)

The word selection is pretty far off, too.

(hint: if you ever suspect me of being a sockpuppet, also look for a preponderance of elipses [that's "..."] those seem to be a habit I can't break)

Sheesh...someone has sockpuppets on the brain.

I seem to miss the part where someone accused you of being behind the original poster....but on the other hand .....a healthy paranoia could even save your live one day ;-)

Well, considering I seem to be the only one on these boards who has complained about the state of rangers recently, and considering someone accused me of being Gbaji's sockpuppet a day or two ago (despite the fact that he and I were vehemently disagreeing at the time...go figure) then it seemed a reasonable assumption.

If I am wrong, I beg your pardon. But I had no idea who else you might be accusing.

OMFG we are examining grammer and capitalization? Look man it was a hastely typed remark while I was in game. The whole point of this board is to no take it to seriosly. I also thought my point was clear , there is no need for root damage mitigation when rooting and shooting. relax your are not my sockpuppet ( whatever that means) and dont let 12 year old boys get you all bent out of shape when they call you ames.

Well it was an incredibly silly and stupid "hastily typed remark". If you played a ranger instead of buying one you would have noticed that you get no bonus on rooted mobs at level 51 just like neverdone commented.

As far as the comparison with necros and druids - you are totally equal. You can root them and dot them just like a druid. Why you consider there to be some kind of parity between dots and archery I'm not sure. I really cannot understand how someone can play a ranger to 65 and 50AA and still not know what the class is good and bad at.

You have info on AAs long before you purchase them. I don't see AM3 saying it turns you into death on two legs.

On the other hand I'm sure the rest of your server would be happier if you could solo.

For one a sockpuppet is an acount created by an already existing poster to further boost an idea or to promote the first acount he has.

Secondly the purpose of these boards are to discuss the game and help other if they need help(albeit we all ***** around on here but thats still while we get a point across.). Now if youd prefer talking to a lot of people who speak in OMFG!, WOOTZERS!, and STFU NUUB! I suggest going here
Warning:Do not click the link if you are afraid of going to hell

As for your spelling, no one likes reading or talking to someone who speaks with half the letters of his words missing. Most people will see it and either mock it, rate you down, or completely ignore you when you type a question about a problem you have like "he gys i ws wndoring wrher igo to loto this UBER armros".

Except perhaps the original poster. But the post you made defending yourself did kick ***. Too bad it was like unloading several cans of Raid on something you thought was a roach but turned out to be sockpuppet.

if you are a wood elf ranger that explains it YOU Wood elves think your hot sh.. and are tanks. think again and for soloing making another toon for soloing having a HUMAN ranger { the only TRUE Ranger } I dont solo You must have a druid and is trying to make your ranger into a druid STUPID
and guess what Rangers are not the only class getting screwed.. play another toon if you dont like them.
#26 Jul 16 2004 at 7:25 AM Rating: Decent
Humans are a little sturdier than us wood elves, but for every class it always comes down to gear. Have you ever tried running back to recover with a couple rusty weapons in your hands? Any green mob high enough to attack you will cause you a lot of grief. Gear makes all the difference in the world, and you have to consider that ten points difference here or there is easily offset my a single high level item with the appropriate stat changes.

Even based on basic stats, wood elves have a naturally high agility, and that usually gets boosted by five points or so at creation. Hmm ... higher agility means higher AC. Armour Class is usually a desirable ability for a tank, no?

It doesn't matter what race is better than another in regards to basic stats. Just pick the race you identify with / like the society and region of the most / enjoy playing the most.
