I have two questions:
1) How do I make a hotkey from scratch. In other words, I want to make a /loc hotkey, how do I do it.

2) Does EQ have any kind of coach system to go from one town to another? I know that in Dark age of Camelot you can buy a horse ticket to go to another town. How does it work in EQ.

Thanks for the help in advance

1. Go to your social buttons. Scroll over one screen so that you've got a whole page of blank buttons. Right click on one of them to open the editing window. Give it a name. Put the command (i.e. /loc) in the body area. Close the editing window. You should now have a social button. Left-click and hold down until the button appears on your mouse pointer. Click on an empty hotkey location. Voila.

2. The easiest way I've found for really quick moving around is to use the Plane of Knowledge as a travel hub. Find the book closest to you, click on it and you're in the Plane of Knowledge. There are many portals there you can pick from. Most commonly traveled newbie areas are directly linked or are only a zone or two away.

Cool thanks a bunch. I never even thought about using the portals. Makes sense.

More memory will help there. I had 256MB at first and could barely move in the bazaar. Now that i have 512MB i no longer have that problem :)

You can create a hot button by typing /hotbutton(dont forget to give it a name you can remember) as well.

There is no coach system, but you now have gnomes that teleport you at docks instead of the VERY SLOW boats that traveled between zones. The POK stones are a great way to get around, and if you have LDON expansion, you can get your adventurer's stone at level 15 which allows you to teleport between the camps (and to the Gates camp which allows you access to several of those zones).

I would echo the memory items above, I have had abosultely no problems at all in POK moving around since patch, even when dragging pet. I havent been to bazzar, so don't know about that.

The past 2 days I've had bazaar lag. Before that, it was great. POK is free and clear nowadays for me.

I'm running 1gb of memory on both of my machines.

I have a Radeon 9700 pro-128, a P4 2.4, and 1GB of RAM, and the Bazaar still lags so bad I have to drop the clip to zero. PoK is tolerable at full clip, but I occasionally get pauses. Nedaria's Landing, for some unknown reason, also lags really badly even with noone in the zone (at least it was on sunday).

Hot keys are something you're going to want to take full advantage of. Some suggestions for additional homemade commands:

/corpse (Drags the targeted corpse to you. Only works on others if they have given you /consent)

/doability x (Where "x" is the numerical value between 1 and 6 that corresponds to the skill you've assigned to a button in the socials box, such as Hide, Sneak, Forage, Fishing, etc.)

/autoinventory (Automatically drops anything on your cursor into your inventory)

/pause x (Where "x" is the length of the pause. This helps spread out the initiaion of a skill when several are used at once. Example:

/doability 1 (1 is my forage)

/pause 5

/autoinventory

It's also helpful to combine similar skills into one hotbutton such as:

/doability 2 (my taunt)

/doability 3 (my kick)

There are lots of other options, and perhaps others will suggest some of their favorites.

YAY for "Hide Traders". I currently have turned that off and have NO lag in the Bazaar :) I even set my trader up and turned off all traders. Very nice addition!

Agree that "Hide Trader" is the best thing that has happened to bazaar. It is a snap to right click on a trader and ONE trader appears. Used to drive me crazy trying to get to a trader in the front areas by the bank, where they are packed like sardines.

It is like the traders do not exist, you can run right through them.

One of the things that may help with Nedaria's landing is /showgrassoff . When they added Jagged Pine Forest, they tried to make it all nice and pretty with swaying trees and stuff, but then realized that all those pretty swaying trees created hellatious lag. Even with /showgrassoff you will probably experience a good bit of lag in JPF and Nedaria's, since Nedaria's is basically modeled after JPF.
Something you'll probably want to do is remap some keys. I play a bard, so my keys are all mapped to the same small area. I can do almost anything with one hand (I'm going to get a Nostromo gamepad one day... this'll work till then though). All of my hot key buttons are mapped near my numbers so I can twist with my numbers and hit /autoattack or my MT assist/ST assist hotkeys very easily. I even have my alternate movement keys near there, for those times I need to run away and use my mouse to swap instruments/weapons/clicky gate, etc. Don't be afraid to remap as needed. Custom UI's and keyboard mapping are there to make life easier for you.

Where is the "hide trader" button? Or is it a command (/hidetrder)?
I can't believe I've missed something so incredibly valuable. This would also explain why every numbskull in the bazaar camps right on top of one another in the same area...lol

/showgrassoff is something I'll definately try.

Thanks for both of the great suggestions!

EDIT: after thinking about this for a bit, I've decided that I'm really annoyed that there are zones that won't run properly on my system. The most stringent reccomended specs for EQ, as per the
Sony website, are as follows for those that don't already know:

# Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP
# Pentium® III or greater
# 512 MB RAM
# 32 MB Direct3D compliant video card and hardware T&L (i.e. ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce 2 or greater)
# DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card
# 56.6k (or faster) Internet connection
# 16X speed CD-ROM
# 1.5 GB+ hard drive space

My system doubles, and in some areas QUADRUPLES the recommended hardware for this game. It's just absolute crap to have zones in the game that wont run on a systems thats mored than 2x of whats recommended.

/rant off

The "Hide Trader" button is on the bazaar shopping window. (/bazaar). It is on the far right, below the item display. You may need to either extend your window to the right, or update your UI (if using a custom one) to see the button.

Another, very necessary hotkey you'll want to make is an Assist key.

There are (at least) 2 that everyone should have.

One is simply /assist. This will assist whatever you have targetted, thus making its target yours.

The other is /assist [MAname] where [MAname] is the character name of the Main Assist (usually the tank of the group or raid, the group or raid will/should specify who this is). This will bypass any targetting issues that some may have trying to get an assist on. This will have to change depending on who the MA (shorthand for Main Assist) is.

Before you use these keys, make sure to type /assist off. This will turn off the autoattack-on-assist feature (and stores it in your ini file so you only have to do this once). This will help you avoid attacking too early (not a big issue at low levels, but as you get higher it'll be critical, good habit to get into early).

One last thing, remember that you have 10 pages of hotkey button spaces. This means that you can have a few extra hotkeys on a 2nd page, and swap them in and out as needed. (Hold down the hotkey to put it to your cursor, click into where you want to put it. If something is there already, that will be placed on cursor.)
