Happy hunting grounds (part deux)Follow

I am looking for a good spot for my lvl 17 ranger to solo. Currently I have been working the shoreline in Oasis of Marr, (killing crocs and such), and would love another option or two to mix things up a bit.

Mostly I would like to work up his dual wield and archery stats (plus his 2HS could use some practice) while I make my way to lvl 20, so lots of dk blues are preferred to a few yellows and reds.

I am not in a big hurry since I enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Thanks, yet again, for the assist!

Karana's are good at that level if memory serves, or Lake of Ill Omen.

I assume you want to avoid the PC route?

They may or may not be green (i think they are) but the casters will definitely still pester you. Don't be surprised if you're running along and get rooted by something green. Also, if you sit on the runnyeye side of the gorge zone in runnyeye, goblins will attack you if they get close, green or not.
Also in the gorge the muddites will throw mud and blind you, and that's no fun. Gorge is a nice place though.

I think Lavastorm may still be ok at that level. Could try Najena as well, Overthere near the POK book is ok. Of course unrest is available if you wish to die now & then 8)

Run to the docks in Oasis and grab the raft (figuratively speaking) for Timorous Deep (sp). You will want to hunt the ogres there, which are extremely easy to solo. You don't want to attack the main camp, but rather the four ogres that are on the outlying areas of the camp. There is one on a rock near the area where the raft use to drop you off, one near the ship dock, the Watchman on the far side, and another in an alcove just past the Watchman. Normally by the time you kill all 4 and med for just a little bit, they first ogre is ready to pop again. Keep doing this till 24 and then head for HHK. With a bow pulling will be no problem. This is also an outdoor zone (which has some really pretty sunsets).

Is there actually still a raft (I don't remember seeing one), or has it been removed in favor of the new *GPS* (Gnomish Port System)?

And while I'm thinkin of it, does anyone know if from land, you can target and bow kite the deep water crocs that are swimming off shore? I would love to pull them and still keep my feet dry!

I recommend you go to paludal until 22 when you will get panic animal. Then go and learn to fear kite in Everfrost with the mammoths, this is a good place to skill up all your weapons too. Good luck.

Oh, I almost forgot, you need to buy some Deluxe Toolboxes before you go to everfrost, so you can carry the tusks. These are located behind the main bank in POK, up the stairs second door on your left, use track to find Nelin Signus. Or it says this chick in POK has them too, although I have never gone to her. I had a blast fear kiting Mammoths, especially at level 22-24 as it was quite challenging, by the mid to late 20's, you stop getting resisted and it take all the challenge out of it.

I visit these guys all the time to get raw materials for my Gnome Tinker but they never seem to have the deluxe boxes, only the standard ones. I will try the other location though, thanks.

I never got bored in the Oasis, but I'm odd like that.

The Karanas are the ranger's paradise. Track to your heart's content. Kill whatever is within your con and avoid the big reds. I don't know how tough they are at 17, but crag spiders in East Karana offer a buttload of silks and good experience. I remember that poison being wicked though, so you probably want to approach these with caution.

The Gorge of King Xorbb never did it for me, but it can yield good experience. Give it a shot, see how you do.

You might want to give Warslick's Woods or the Lake of Ill Omen a go. I know both places have a nice assortment of mobs from 15-30(giants in Warslick's, pumas and such in Lake).

Don't quote me on any of this, I have grown lazy and just do the Paludal route these days. They should remain fairly reliable though. Enjoy the older, less crowded areas of the game. No one else does these days.

I would second the Ogres in Tim. Deep (you get teleported to the dock by the gnome now), you have warriors and shaman that are close to your level. Leave the Watchmen until later.

The good news is that in the time it will take you to do a circuit of the 4 outlying ogres (the first will be to your left as you port in from Oasis), the first one will have respawned.

My pallys did Oasis and Unrest at your level. You might find deathbettles and scarecrows a change of pace in estate of Unrest. You could also hunt in Drag. Cauld. on the way from BB to Unrest as you are a ranger. The fab 4 (npcs) can help if you run to them (watch out for gob Tidal Lords at your level).

If I remember correctly, the crag spiders in EK can hit in around the mid 50s. As long as you can survive that, you'd do fine.

Stonebrunt would be prime for you at this point. Kobolds, snakes and wisps near the zone to Warrens would be right for your level, and moving into the jungle/plains area as you level. Lots of animals to fearkite, pelts to sell to tradeskillers, occasional gem drops. Kejek village is in the middle of zone to sell to. Also once you get into your 20s you can track down and kill heretics and try to get the Swiftclaw Sash, if you don't have a haste item yet. Finally, the Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies is a good procing weapon if you haven't twinked out yet.

There is supposedly a new PoK stone to Gunthak, though I don't know where it is, but the run through Warrens is easy enough, even though some mobs in the King's room can see invis.

The stone to Gunthak is in the "evil" section. It will land you on the foredeck of the boat.

I had my paladin in Stonebrunt for a few days. Hunting up around the kejekan village it seems less poplulated than when Jonwin was there. Very full animals to be seen.

Near the Warrens entrance was more populated but some animal paths seem to have been changed.

I just hit 15 with my ranger. Was going to run to the karanas but may just hunt oasis for a bit then head to TD myself.
