I am on Solusek Ro.
#1. Don't forget to do the tutorial. It gives you a very nice charm item. edit...doh! u'r level 8 when u posted orignally and probably higher than that now. I think you can only access the tutorial at level 6 and below. Well, I hope you got your charm. I'll add another one. /charinfo tells you where you are bound. If you are unfamilar with the zones, where you are bound, relative to where you died, is important.
#2. Either learn to use the /loc command or the in-game maps. It takes a while to become familiar with your surroundings. www.eq.toolbox.com for more maps then is provided in-game.
#3. Yes yes yes the newbie armor quests are a great way to learn the ropes and not feel like you are naked and have only a butter knife for a weapon. There is a good walk-thru on this site, with links to the exact mobs and zones you need, or if you like, www.eqtraders.com
#4 Send "Raddan" or "Sittingbul" a tell. Sittingbul is a ranger that can help track the mobs for your quest drops.
#5 Do become familiar with the bazaar. Easiest way is make a second character and upon entering the world, run them right to the bazaar and park there. Then every time you logon, log your mule and check to see if anything good is for sale cheap. If you see something you like, write it down and the price. Then keep checking back for a week or two and record the prices. Eventually you'll get a feel for the difference of a good price and someone trying to find someone to pay top dollar.
#6 Don't get frustrated with a lack of groups. Put your LFG tag up and use the LFG window, and then head to a camp or area you can solo. There aren't a lot of low level toons around now-a-days that aren't getting powerleveled. But soon, you be hitting zones that have enough similar experienced toons and you will get groups. Experience Crushbone on Faydwer. That zone is kinda a staple of EQ. Its supposed to have a nice XP bonus and it's a good place to both find group and solo. Keep your eyes open for a "shiny brass shield" while in CB. It's a nice starter shield that you should be able to loot for free.
#7 I agree those green goblin camps in Butcherblock are a good place to get PP as well as some XP, and will require you to learn your toon in order to be successful solo. I would complete your armor quests and get your first set of spells before heading there, as was probably mentioned. If it gets boring, then skip over to Crushbone. When Crushbone gets boring, Paudal Caverns on the Luclin moon is a great place to find XP, cash and a group, but there are many other places. As a pally, your bonuses vs. undead will help you in Kurns Tower and Unrest, two zones you could do instead of Crushbone and PC that also have very good ZEM (XP bonuses).
#8 Look up an item before you sell it to an NPC. There is a chances it could sell for a lot more in the bazaar. Spiderling silks sell for 5-10pp each to other PC's, but less than 1 gold (1/10 of a PP) to an NPC. After a days hunt, run your toon to the nearest bank. Then put anything you want to sell in the bazaar in the shared bank slots. Log out that toon and log on your mule. Then take the items out of the shared bank slots and put them on you trader. You'll need a special trader sachal that sells for a little more than 1pp from the NPC's in the building in he middle of the bazaar. Put everyhing you want to sell to other PC's in that sachel, and type /trader. As far as bags for your Pally, backpacks from merchants in your guild in Freeport (where you have the best faction and should get the best prices both buying and selling) will do you fine. You also get a (heavy) 10-slot container just for starting the newbie armor quests. If you desire more slots, delux toolboxes are a 10 slot container sold in PoK for less than 2pp, if you have the STR to be able to carry the 10 stones they weigh. If you often find yourself encumbered, you may want to get some hand made backpacks, which also have 10 slots but weigh less. They are more than 20 times the cost of the toolboxes though.
#9 Type "/autojoin auction". It's a serverwide chat channel for the purpose of buying and selling things. It'll help you get a feel of the going rates, and what's out there for your toon.
Finally, again, send Raddan or Sittingbul a tell. I will help anyway I can.edit...doh! u'r level 8 when u posted orignally and probably higher than that now.
