Focus Effects/Recommended LevelFollow

Is it true that focus effects will not work unless your character meets the recommended level for the item? It seems to be the case for my 38 shammie using a Book of Impracticality (Spell Haste III), with a rec level of 52. When I was using a Mithril-Runed Tunic, I often saw the effect message. Haven't seen it once since I switched.

And does this apply to the Earring of the Solstice - FT1?

Just wondering...

Now that you mention it I gave my lvl 31 Beastlord a Darkwater Pearl Necklace (Ext. Range III, Rec Lvl 45?) before and, last night, when I was trying to pull EC rangers from the maximum possible distance, I don't think it went off.

I'll have to test it more tonight, but I'm inclined to say they no longer work prior to reaching the rec. level (which wasn't the case previously).

Hi, Jim Nesselroad here.
I got the Earring of the Solstice for my 22 lvl enchanter. And with Breeze, the mana regenerates at a very noticeable rate. It appears to me that the FT works when the item is worn, regardless of the recommended level.

Is there an increase in mana regeneration without breeze if you use the flowing thought earring as opposed to not using it though?

Ok, either they changed it again or I was wrong the first time. I definately saw focus messages from my Darkwater Pearl Necklace (rec lvl 50) on my lvl 31 BST today.

I just got the earring of the solstice for my 54 Cleric and I can't tell the difference. I think it's one of thopse things where +1 is not so much in the grand scheme of things. But,when you add it with other things you start to see the benefits, ie..mana regen +6 or 7. I think the solstice earring is popular because it is fairly cheap for a FT item (I paid just under 4,300 pp for all the items on Stromm), and it is very easy to do.

Edited to add: The earring is the only FT item I have at the moment.

I don't think the Earring of the Solstice's +mana regen is considered a focus effect but rather a stat now. Unfortunately I do not have an answer to your question but a good way to test this is to have a high level Mage summon a focus item and try it on a low level character. All the Mage focus items have a recommended level on them. It sounds like it is working for Jophiel so I would assume it should work for you.

Yes, some focus effects have level requirements. when they first implemented the focus effect onto all items my mages torch/broom/shovel/stein all stated that the pet focus would not work until character level 20... and they don't :-(

Well, I had a chance to do a little research this morning. And I was wrong (had the Focus Effects filter off, duh). Focus effects do seem to work regardless of recommended level, as well as the FT1 on the Earring of the Solstice.

Sorry for the earlier confusion, and this may or may not apply to summoned or mage focuses.

Every mage site I've seen says that mage pet foci work fine from lvl 4 onward regardless of what SOE claims. I'm sure it's on Mage Compendium somewhere if you care enough to check.

Most items now will tell you what level that the effect will be able to be used. Even if you are below the recomended level you can still use the effects on some items. Not on all but definitely some.
