Well there is one way to not get stunned you could be a large class such BARB, TROLL, OGRE. The don't get stunned

In low levels you'll get stunned a lot unless you play an ogre. I'm not sure about the other 2 classes though otizlee, I could be wrong though.
It gets better as your ac and all the parts that make up your ac (redundant) get better.
As far as preventing it, I really can't think of a way outside of AC to do it with the exception of trying to get your stun off first.

This is not fact, but it seems to me as you increase in level you do not get stunned as much. It has a lot to do with the mob you are fighting too, some stun more than others.

Paladins get stunned like crazy....

But, you definitly have started the right class!
I love my Paladin!

P.S. Pick up a nice 2hs because your damage cap gets moved at level 20 and you can start doing some nice damage early!

Yeah, I think it goes hand in hand with the AC too.
You're right though, mobs that hit harder generally stun more. At level 15 shrooms in PC should stun more often then other things of that level.

Only Ogres have innate immunity to frontal melee stuns. They can still be stunned from behind or by spells as well. Trolls, Vah Shir and barbarians are as susceptible to stuns as gnomes, halflings and high elves.

Although the damage cap goes up at level 20, you will most likely still want to be using 1HS + Shield/Bash for the extra AC. You will want to keep your skills up on 1HS, 2HS, and Piercing (other would also recommend 1HB). At minimum you should keep 1HS + 2HS maxed.

With 2HS at level 20 you will be doing more damange than at 2HS at level 19. More important than the max amount of damage that you do is the amount of damage that you inflict per second. With comparable weapons 1HS + Bash normally will produce more DPS at this leavel than 2HS with a high delay. Most paladins I have spoken to have switched over soley to 2HS somewhere around level 50. There is a really good article on Paladins of Norrath in the Tomes of Knowledge section that is a must read. http://p202.ezboard.com/fpaladinsofnorrathtomesofknowledge.showMessage?topicID=82.topic

My recommendation would be to skill up on both 1HS and 2HS, but once the skill is maxed use 1HS + Bash and take advantage of the extra AC a shield offers. On average the slower 2HS weapon will occasionally create an uber hit for lots of damage, but with the damage bonus being fairly low at this point you would be better off with a faster 1HS+Bash creating 3 possible attacks than the single 2HS swing. The shield will increase your AC (and possibly your ATK rating depending on stats - watch this carefully when equipping) making you harder to hit. You will also want to monitor how long it takes you to kill the mob with both 1HS vs 2HS. Dead things don't attack...the longer the mob is alive and hitting you the more damage you are going to sustain.

One final point. It has been my experience that around level 20 the newbie quest armor really isn't worth wearing any more, except for when tradeskilling (due to the wisdom stats). A suit of Fine Plate (going mega cheap) gives you a higher AC than the newbie quest armor. If you are still wearing your newbie quest armor you might want to look at some nice cheaper end armor, some stat enhancing jewelry pieces, a nice shield, and a good ratio 1HS weapon. I would save some money on the 2HS weapon and put the cash into an armor upgrade.

Flames away...

Hmm post seems to have not made it.

A couple of thoughts on the pallys:

While you will get an occasional stun in combat, it tends to happen a lot less as you move up in levels - I played my 46 pally last night against HGs in Rathe and don't remember more than 1 or 2 stuns over a course of 4 fights.

I would second working on both 1 HS and 2 HS skills; while you will eventually want the damage from the 2 HS weapons, the ability to bash with your shield is a great benefit at your level and going forward. After you face a couple of Orc healers in Oasis, you will really apreciate bash as an interupt (plus stun spells).

I kept most of my newbie armor through the 20s (was pre LDON), so it is probably more important to get a better weapon than upgrade armor right away.

Also, I would start looking for Ghoulbane quest items, while you are still too low for the mobs, many higher levels target them for exp and cant use the no drop items (esp in BB gobs & unrest ghouls) and will let you know they are rotting.

I have a 45 clc and pally is a nice change from heal, cure, med routine.

Good Hunting.

Bah to you people who say you get stunned less at higher levels. I am 65 and nearly 100 aa's and I get to crap stunned out of me by the 700+ hitters. Really makes it tough when you get stunned to badly you can't even lay hands!

If it bothers you alot re-roll to an ogre SK or warrior.. that is the only fix for it sadly.

I don't know what the formula for getting stunned is. I would assume it's some comparison between the level of the hit (I don't think it's particuarly the damage done on that hit, but the potential that mob has that matters) and some combination of your AC and/or hp and/or sta. I've never really bothered to test. It's just something that happens and you deal with it. In any case, everything that I can think of that *could* affect your chance of getting stunned is something that you'd want to increase anyway. You want more AC/HP/STA anyway, so if it helps against stuns, that's a bonus.

The most annoying thing to me about stuns is the frequency with which the mobs tend to stun you on the first hit (and at no other time during the fight). Very frustrating when you have to explain to the slower that he got beat on becuase you mistimed your stun on the pull, got hit first and stunned yourself, and therefore the uber-agro you usually have didn't exist. Grrr... ;)
