Smithing and tailoringFollow

I am having trouble finding a good site that has the best (fastest) way to gain skills in smithing and tailoring. I am enchanter so would like jewelcrafting too, but can wait on that.

www.eqtraders.com has alot of guides that tell you how to build up skills pretty fast.

I must say however, you've chosen the 3 skills that will take the longest to master and require the most plat.

EQtraders is indeed the best site for tradeskills.

Smithing and Tailoring are hugely expencive to progress from 150 onwards, if you have alot of time to farm for items costs can be reduced but it will still cost you alot.

Jewelrycraft is both inexpencive <comparitively> and extremely easy to do. it works out at about 10-15k to GM Jewelrycraft and thier are low level items that have a good return to offset the expence.

If you are serious about any tradeskill i recommend getting hold of the appropriate Geerlok device i.eGeerlok Gemsetter<Jewelry version> The 5% bonus will save you alot of time and money in the long run.

thank you very much, good advice.
i think i am going to go with jewelcrafting, the others are too hard for the FV server. its a bit more difficult to make cash.
the info on eqtraders is good and will definitley help, i just think its funny to see how old these posts are. like saying: you can sell stuff easily in EC with all the people buying and selling there lol. or go to Freeport bank, there are always people there to sell to.
yea about 2 years ago that was the case. crazy how much has changed since i started the game in june of 1999.

For blacksmithing I take a less traditional route than most people (I could never get into dairy spoons). Typically this course works best for the melee classes that have a higher strength and can easily carry all of those bulky items. I also have a natural tendancy to lean towards items that someone can actually use over vendor trash. Although there is almost zero market for most of these items, they do make nice gifts to a true newbie (if you are so inclined).

Note: Collect all of the rusty weapons you can lay your hands on. In Freeport the pawn shop selling rusty weapons had the prices nerfed. Your cheapest route is to harvest as many rust weapons as possible. Fortunately the drop rates on rusty weapons in the newbie zone seems to have been increased. You won't make a huge profit on blacksmithing from 1-115, but you can eek out a little profit if you farm the rusty weapons.

Recommended smithing path
1) Trivial 1-25 - Sharpen rusty weapons into tarnished weapons.
2) Trivial 26-31 - Make ore from the tarnsihed weapons, combine bricks, and make into Sheets of Metal. Save these for later
3) Trivial 31-35 - Make yourself a couple of files and make Studs. Save these for tailoring
4) Trivial 36-37 - Make Steel Boning. Save these for tailoring
5) Trivial 38-62 - This is super easy to do in East Freeport. Make Bucklers and sell back to vendor for small profit
6) Trivial 63-68 - Make Round Shields and sell back to vendor for small profit
7) Trivial 69-79 - Make Targ Shields and sell back to vendor for small profit
8) Trivial 80-82 (Optional) - Make Kite shield. Don't do this unless you intend to actually use it, since the recipe requires MQ ore.
9) Trivial 83-88 (Optional) - Make Tower shield. Don't do this unless you intend to actually use it, since the recipe requires MQ ore.
10) Trivial 90-115 - Make Banded Armor and sell back to vendor
11) Trivial 116-155 - Make Ornate Armor. You can either buy the HQ ore in Kaladin or POK, however, you may need to the ore quest to resupply the vendor. Alternatively you can hunt in Highpass Keep for the HQ ore as well. Because of the high price of platinum bars you will want to stop at Gold Ornate Mail. You can try to sell the armor in the Bazaar, but the resale value really depends on the server.
12) Trivial 156-188 - Fine Plate. The biggest problem is the leather padding, which if you are doing smithing in conjunction with tailoring you should have stacks by now. The only non-vendor purchased item is the padding. You will definitely want to get a Gearlock Hammer for this, for the failure cost can get rather high.

Post 188+ - Grit your teeth and bear it. Advancing beyond this point can be a bear. In my opinion human cultural smithing is very useful from 188-190s, however, you must be a human in order to produce the lower end cultural.

188+ you can make soulscream armor. You have to do the smithing quest in Shar Vahl for the hammer and anvil.

After which it consists of running the Hollowshade Moore war so you can farm Shrieking and Wailing substance. Then off to Twilight Sea to farm Swirling Shadows.

Other than the fact it takes forever to farm this stuff (subs are no drop) this is IMHO the cheapest way to level from 188-248.

FYI: for any interested human blacksmiths http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=74&rsa=Smithing&rc=HUM&sb=item&sub=freeport&menustr=080040070020

Freeport Field Plate I would argue is a little easier to craft (but not cheaper), since it requires only one farmed and one tradeskilled item: the Sea Temper. To make the temper you need a Mug of Seafoam and Saltwater Seaweed, which is available in Ocean of Tears. The seafoam is attained by killing the Seafury Cyclops and the seaweed is fished. It takes a while to get a nice couple of stacks, but you can earn XP hunting the cyclops (assuming your >44) while you farm. Most people hunting here usually don't know what the seafoam is for, so OOC that you're buying it and you may have some takers. The rest of the components, including the HQ Ore, can be vendor purchased. I've just started this track, but I plan on taking it trivial 215.

The stats on the Field Plate sucks rocks, so it's pretty much vendor trash (unless some pure newbie wants it for the armor class). The Qeynos human cultural armor has great stats and a good resale price. The Freeport cultural armor is a good logical progression to crafting the Qeynos.
