I am really wanting to go see Kedge Keep, but I do not wish to use my Bard enduring breath song for a variety of reasons.

I know a fishbone earring drops from Hadden in Qeynos Hills or can be bought at the bazaar (although I have yet to find one). I have heard of other things also, but I am unclear on the names, can someone help me out with them? I only have about 1k to spend. I also really do not want a potion or such, I would like to have an item equipped so I do not even need to worry about drowning.

On the Hadden thing, I am viewed warmly as a Bard in Qeynos, will the faction hit drop me below indifferent? I am assuming I will have to kill him a few times before I get lucky.

I also have a 28 Sk I have considered trying with, but I am not sure if she can take him out, anyone know if Hadden (who is 28 himself) casts or has other skills that may take me by surprise?

I have no answers for you but would like to ask about Singing Steel Gauntlets. They are an EB item that is bard only but I am under the impression that they have a time limit on how long they can be used (20 some odd minutes?). If they have a limit, how can they be reset? I wish to go to Kedge to fight Phinney for an epic drop for my bard.

I did not realize the Gauntlets were EB (not that I can afford them anyway). But to use them they must be equipped and then you click on them to activate the effect.

Singing steel gauntlets do not have a time limit. They work as long as you have them on.

I'm not sure if you would be able to get the earring in qeynos hills. It's almost always camped. If you do see the NPC up though, as a sk you should be able to solo him.

Singing steel gauntlets are worn, not triggered. Unless they changed the effect in the last month, they give you enduring breath as long as they're equipped.

Thanks for the link, but I am a bard. I have an enduring breath song, but I just am cringing at the thought of having to fight/run while twisting songs and the Gods forbid I miss a note

Hi Brialla,

I just did the run to Katta Castellum through the Grey with the Bard enduring breath song (Tarew's Aquatic Ayre). My swimming is maxed for my level (19). I only needed to 'cast' the song approximately once every 30-40 seconds. The song itself runs for 18 seconds - then you get that Air Remaining indicator - which gives me another appx 15 secs until Air Remaining is 50%. Cast Aquatic Ayre again - repeat. There's plenty of time to twist in other songs and twist the Aquatic once in a while. Between starting the song and completely running out of air - I estimate I had almost one minute of time. I gave myself a 15 sec buffer (50% Air Remaining) for missed notes etc.

I didn't time it - so I am guessing - easy to test underwater though - should give you a good idea of how much time you would have. It's my understanding that you are able to hold your breath longer with higher swimming skill - so depending on your level/skill you may have more or less time.

BTW - what a blast and a rush - I hope SOE never put in a PoK stone to KC. I went through Nexus - Neth Lair - Mars Seru - Mons Letanis - Grey - Twilight Sea - KC. Absolutely loved the heart thumping run and the scenery.

Hope this helps.

Edit : Jophiel - you are correct, I forgot the Scarlet Desert. My primary concern during the run was to stay invisible (being a lowlie in big bad zones) and in order to cast Aquatic - I would find an out of sight (from mobs) spot - cast Aquatic and immediately cast my invisibility song again - since Aquatic dropped invisibility. If invisibility is not a concern then there is plenty of time to twist songs.

I just timed it and actually I get a total time of 1 minute 20 seconds before I am totally out of air. (I guess under the adrenaline rush I was suffering from time distortion :))

You mean Grey - Scarlet Desert - Twilight Sea, don't you? Smiley: wink

Singing Steel gauntlets are a worn effect. Trust us. There's a quest for an EB item (Amulet of the Grey Wastes) from Katta if you don't feel like camping Hadden.

Sung EB does have the disadvanatage that you can't use it while invis. On the other hand, I bet you'd just make a mage giggle with delight if you asked them (or offered them a nominal sum) for a couple waterstones. Each has a couple charges of Enduring Breath and are clickies. If you want perma-EB though, the Katta quest or the Fishbone are probably the easiest way.

I almost mentioned that, but it sounds like the OP is in the 30's which is a bit low to do the quest. The mobs you have to kill are at the lowest mid 40's. You could always get a friend to help, or see if someone is killing the shissar and don't care if you loot. If you can get the organs, it is a quest worth doing.Smiley: grin

I've heard you can get the organs from a snake in Echo Caverns at a lower level than hunting in the Grey (which requires its own EB item anyway). But I've never done it and ECav is mainly something in my way on the route to Fungus Grove, so I can't say for sure.

The taskmaster(the snake you're talking about in echo) is level 42, while the shissar in the grey range from mid 40's for the normal spawns, to mid 50's for the named.

Someone in their 30's or below would have little or no chance of completing that quest unless they had a LOT of help. It's a good quest though, and I would recommend any good races 50+ that need EB check it out,Smiley: grin

LOL, yes, this brings back memories, I was in my 19th season the first time I made the run.

I am a level 41 bard with 200 swimming skill, and Rattlan, you may want to go in an underwater keep with a just song, but I am surely not so brave :).

All the things you all suggested were great, thank you. I ended up in the bazaar this afternoon and there was a guy selling a rebreather /ooc which I snapped up immediately. I have no clue if I overpaid, but what I paid sure beat the 5000k for a fishbone earring on sale. I tried the "camp Hadden" thing, but I never even found him and I got tired of charming the bats to eat the gnolls so I left.

Truthfully, I really do not care about leveling and such, I came back to Eq as a 32 bard with just two goals. I wanted to hit 40, and I wish to see every zone in Eq before beta on eq2 starts. I have loved EQ and will miss my little bard badly, but I really wish to play a game that has housing (yeah, so I am a little, well ok, a lot weird). If they do eq2 half as well as the first I shall play it for years to come also :).

Thanks again for the help, Good Hunting all
