I have been using gate potions forever, and damn are they expensive. i am trying to find the hammer that gives you the port in ot. can someon help me out? like the name of the hammer, how i get it?

Once your faction is amiable from doing the berzerker whip turn ins to Captain Rottgrime, go find the mob called "undead foreman" or something like that. Give him a piece of jade and he gives you the hammer. Been a while since I did the quest, but if you hail the foreman in the outpost near the ships that are under construction, he will give you the details.
Ok this sucks, lol, its a combat effect?? is there anything that say melees can click to get a gate effect? aside from potions of course.

I am working on the Clockwork Talisman now and hope to take the quest all the way to the unlimited version at some point. I gad intended to do the hammer quest, but after about 40 braid turn ins, my DE SK is still indifferent to the foreman. I would have thought a DE would have had a leg up on this quest, but I do not....kind of annoying actually. I specifically stayed out of KC so my OT Outpost facticon would not suffer - go figure.
sweet the clockwork talisman was the one i was looking for, an eventually unlimited gate for anyone.
ya know that elemental flagged discussion you started miccah? well if you read the quest youll find that The Binden Concerrentia (the final part of the clockwor talisman quest) requires you to be elemental flagged.
Of course that stupid unlimited one STILL requires a 100pp component PER GATE!!

while looking at that talisman it says that its only 1pp to make, so long as you have a shaman with the right level and skills. is this incorrect?? ohh no , i didnt even notice i had to be elemental flagged, its too hard to do that on my server. or maybe i have just found the wrong guild.

getting ele flagged is hard on any server and yes you need to be in a good raiding guild or have some sort of open raid organisation on your server. lots of the bosses you have to kill to become elemental require raids with 50+ people in them.
No the component for the gate necklace is 100pp from merchants then you need a shaman with alchemy to combine it.

Quick Note : Do it. Get the hammer. Worth it.
I have 56 Ranger, and was using, or rather, trying to use a Gate Potion when in trouble. Typically very difficult to get off in a fight as the 10 second cast time is constantly interrupted. The hammer processes very quickly, but is slow to swing. Typically, it will process in under 10 seconds, and has never failed when I needed it. Another option is the Lizard Blood Potion which is an instant cast, but to a difficult place. Of course, I have all three : if really bad, I start clicking the potion, and swinging the hammer. I have not yet needed to use the Lizard Blood Potion.
How to get the hammer? I used puppet strings. Tried the other methods, and just to difficult for a KOS ranger. I waited and watched the bazaar until a puppet string set came up at a decent price. If using this method, be sure to cast cancel magic or other debuff first before using the puppet strings.

For what it's worth, you can get an insta-click Gate potion at most "alchemy" vendors. Vial of Swirling Smoke. Costs a cool grand but, when you absolutely have to get out of a zone alive, you can't find a quicker way out.
And, yes, last I heard it is possible to get a "collapsed gate" on a Vial of Swirling Smoke (or the shaman gate-to-bind potions, dunno about the FoB/Feerott/EF/etc potions).
