I am capped in 1HS and am using a Venomous Axe of the Velium Brood (it is 1 SH).

Any suggestions for a new weapon are appreciated or should I just stay with this one for now. Seems some swords requiring 45 level will be coming up then.

Thanks

Currently at 43 I'm using an argent protector. It's 2hs, but if I'm not wrong that's would you'd be better of using as a paly anyways.

Ven Axe (11/24 = 9.58dps)

Massive Dragonclaw Shard (28/30 19 dps no level)
Jeldorin (19/24 16.25dps no level)
Vengeful Diamond Blade (20+3/27 = 17.41dps)
Goo Covered Knights blade (17/22 15.91dps)

You didn't say how much you had to spend - but these would range from ~3k to ~15k. You can probably get an equivalent 1HB weapon cheaper. Take a look at the Platinum Plated Re'Stek. This can be found for under 500p usually.

Another good 1hb that I usually can find pretty cheap is:
Mace of the Fallen Crusader
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=16534

edit-why I can usually find it from 200-500pp is beyond me, it seems like a much better weapon than that price dictates.

also ...

Scepter of Lightning (lvl 56)
Glacierbone Hammer (lvl 60)

Check out the actual damage based on your character's level. These 2 and the mace of the fallen crusader are insanely cheap because they have high rec levels. By the time you make the level where it does full damage, you will find you have already upgraded.

Same deal with the Planar Lance of Torment (2HP 30/32 lvl 60) and Two Tined Corpse Pitchfork (26/22 lvl 53).

The corpse pitchfork is an outstanding weapon which I used from level 50 to 56 (before my 2-Hand damage bonus started to make a difference).

Some great weapons. Have about 5K to spend and can get a bit more together selling stuff in bank.

Question since more that Slash suggestions.

Since have capped at 1HS, should I then start moving up in another category. Say 1HB or 2HS or B.

I could easily do that and if in just a party hunting, practice and get that up too.

I started using 2HS due to some suggestions from this board actually and I haven't looked back since. As a paly it should be pretty hard for you to lose aggro with your stun line and taunting etc, so a higher dly, higher dmg weapon is probably best. There are others here who can eventually explain this better than I can, but I've had no problems with using 2HS. On a petty note, the hard hits get addictive. With the argent protector I'm commonly hitting for 150, and usually stay around 90 per hit. I have a Flowing black silk sash to offset the 49 dly a little.

I thought initially you were looking for only 1HS. If you are open to others, probably the best bang for the buck is a Scepter of Lightning (19/25 at your level) and a Two tined corpse pitchfork (21/22 @lvl 42). It wouldn't surprise me if you bought both for under 1k total. You would have 2 fast weapons that will let you skill up quickly in 1HB and piercing. Once your skills are up to your level you will probably get about 50-100% more damage output as you had with the Ven Axe.

There are great 2HS out there also, but no affordable ones can compare to the pitchfork until your 2handed damage bonus for weapon delay > 27 gets higher (mid lvl 50s). Then you can go look at the War Marshal's bladed staff

Oh, it is time to try something new. Was looking for 1HS originally but reading all these posts think it is time to try others.

Have copied all the suggestions and the silly thing is have been passing up 2HS and 2HB weapons that have come off creatures.

Just checked out Scepter of Lightning and Two tined Corpse pitchfork. Probably a good start for me since price will be low and I can see how I do with them.

Hmmm, think I will go shopping tonight.

Another good 1hs if you can get one is a Frostbringer

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4851

Good ratio even without the proc till 50th lvl

The price listed here is a bit high I believe. They run for around 2.5k on The Rathe

well, I suggest to get piercing, 2HS and 2HB up as soon as possible.

forget about 1HS, 1HB for the mo.

mobs now start to riposte, so slower two handers are generally regarded the better option after lvl 45 ish for tanks.

sorry, gotta run, maybe somebody else could explain in more depth?

You are definitely going to want to get your 2H weapon skills up to scratch. Post 50 it becomes a better choice in most situations for a Paladin to use a slow 2H weapon. Read more by clicking this link

You can pick up a Weighty Polearm very cheap, and it is a decent weapon, fast too so you will skill up quickly. The corpse pitchfork thingy is ideal for skilling up on piercing as suggested above.

I thought Paladins attacked from behind to avoid riposte damage. Smiley: wink

Riposte or not, there are times when 1 handers are preferable to 2 handers... I wouldn't advocate that he not keep those skills trained.

What? In a raid maybe, but the vast majority of time in experience groups a Paladin will be tanking and therefore fighting from the front

He is already maxed in 1HS, it is his 2H skills that need serious work. And post 55, until a Paladin gets a Hopebringer there is pretty much zero reason for using a 1H weapon after level 55 - maybe to squeeze out a bit more HP and resists when not tanking in a raid situation, and maybe if interrupting a mob is highly important.

Hey now, I was kidding. Think along the lines of honorable paladin attacking from behind...

pallies main fighting style is 2hs, the reason being they have better dps than 1hs/b has and becuase pallies cant duel wield they cant do the dmg of a duel wielding class, in some cases 1h weps may be preferable, with a shield for instance, however a pally really comes into his own with 2hs.

it may not apply so much at lower lvl but higher up pallies gets the option of 2h AAs which puts them in a position where they can do more dmg and get more agro using 2h weps, all the best pallies i know wield 2h weps most of the time. if i were you id get a 2h wep asap and get that skill worked up, it will only get harder to do the higher ya get.

/edit typos

I only got this weapon for my paladin who is L41 because of the cost. I paid 6kpp, and this weapon usually is more like 10k-16k. Wavecrasher. I hope this url link came out right.

Once above L52ish the 2handed skills get better than the 1handers and shield. So I will just be using this weapon for skillups. And then try and resell in bazaar for a profit.

Heck you guys, I will tank standing on it's shoulders if I think that will do the deed.

Will pick up something in 2HS, 1HB and Piercing. Great links to all the weapons too. Besides, I am not going anywhere in many skills until after 50 now that I have maxed right? The only skills I notice are going over the 200 cap are spells.

Think I will find a few friends and go say Hi to some Frost Scouts and ask the scouts if I can borrow their weapons lol

I won a Heavy Windriders Lance the other night in BoT

http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17983

While you're not likely gonna get one anytime soon, it's a great reason why you should pick up a piercer and train it up. My Sword of the Crypt Keeper is now hanging over the fireplace.

The stats aren't maybe what some other weapons give you, but that 45/40 DMG/DLY is hard to pass up especially when you have a Vallon's tossed on you :)

The great thing about all this, is keep the weapon I have, get new ones and in groups or hunts where I know the group will work together, I can level up my skills in the new categories and always switch back to 1HS if needed by party.

Thanks to all of you, really is appreciated. Seriously, am going to bazaar tonight.

It is very hard to beat the low cost war marshall bladed staff thingie once you can afford it. That is easily one of the best bazaar weapons for the price.
War Marshall's Bladed Staff

Pat have you ever used an Ornate Broadsword? I'm thinking of trying one when/if we get one on Sol Ro for giggles-- although I am LOVING my war maul 8)

I believe most pallies agree that the 2h start to hold a CLEAR advantage at 55+

I would concur with Samatman that the Massive Dragonclaw Shard is a pretty good choice. Typically I've seen the arguements for either the shard or Longblade of Vitality. Cash doesn't grow on trees and these can be rather pricey. If memory serves the Dragonclaw Shard doesn't have any level restrictions and is a little more reasonably priced.

Patrician is correct that you absolutely want to be practicing up on 2HS, for it will eventually become your primary weapon. Another article that discusses the 2HS bonus is http://p202.ezboard.com/fpaladinsofnorrathtomesofknowledge.showMessage?topicID=82.topic

Personally, unless DPS is a major issue you may want to save some cash and eventually buy a very nice 2HS weapon. The Argent Protector is nice, but a Windblade still beats it hands down. Unfortuantely it is so expensive (due to its popularity) that it is out of the price range of most players unless you saved up. Another option is spending a little less on the 1HS weapon, and buying a moderate 2HS weapon and armor upgrades (for when you eventually ditch that shield).

I use two weapons at the moment Jarl, RWM for dps/AE fights - so bosses on raids mainly. Bloodied Berserkers Blade if offtanking or exp groups. Never got my hands on Ornate Broadsword. I am currently hoping to upgrade to a SEWS, and to get a Spear of Fire for giggles. Camp for Spear of Fire is offically a *****.
